. IMPROVEMENT IN BOOK-COVER PROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,956, dated September 5, 1876; application filed August 3, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES MAHEDY, of Sperry, in the county of Des Moines and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Book-Cover Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvementin book-cover protectors; and it consists in the "arrangement and combination of straps or bands and covers for the corners, as will be more fully described hereinafter whereby the covers of books can be protected from injury Without covering them wholly over.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention. v
A represents four corners or covers, which are intended to go over the corners of a book, and which corners are joined together by the two horizontal bands or straps O and the four vertical ones D E. The two bands E are arranged near together, one on each side of the center of the horizontal straps, so as to extend along down the inner edges of the cover. The covers A protect the four corners, while the three sets of. straps or bands 0 D E protect the sides and edges of the cover from injury as it is being moved about either on the table or standing on its shelf. One great advantage about this cover is, that it protects the binding of the book in all those places where it is likely to get hurt or injured without covering it entirely up, thus hiding not.;9nly the name, but the style of binding. All the. parts of this protector may be made of rubber, leather, or any other suitable material; or the covers A may be made of sheet metal or other hard substance, and be joined together by means of suitable connecting bands or straps of any flexible material.
In order to keep the bands or straps .O in position the hooks 13, made of any suitable material, are fastened thereto, so as to catch over the edge of the cover, as shown.
I claim as my invention A. book-cover protector composed of corners A and connecting-straps, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
I JAMES MAHEDY.
