LOUIS BLUMEN THAL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK COLLAPSIBLE TABLE AND SEAT Application filed. March 28, 1930. Serial No. 439,675.
I This invention relates essentially to a collapsible table and seats in which the table top, its legs and the seats can be conveniently folded thereby flattening the article into a 6' single unit so that it can be packed and transported or stored in a small space. I
An object of the invention is to provide de vices for connecting the table with the seats in order to permit the table and seats to 10. simultaneously fold practically with all the members in vertical formation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a latch for locking the table top in its open position thereby preventing collapse of In this invention the opening and folding of the table top actuates the leg members of the table and by means of the connections between the. legs of the seats pact package.
Another object of the invention is to provide the table with a spring roller having a table cover wound thereon which when the 5 table is unfolded or in use can be drawn over the tabletop and hooked to a stud.
The invention resides more particularly in the novel combinations hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the ac- W30 companying drawings in which V85 folded.
Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the same.
Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal section of the upper portion of the table.
In the drawings the numeral 5 designates a 440 table top made in two-sections hinged together at 6 and having a depending frame 7 located below the top. The sections are locked together when opened by means of a latch 8 armoved to the positionshown in Fig. 5-prevents collapse of the two table sections. A pair of legs 9 in lazy-tong formation are pivoted at 10 to the depending side of the table frame and they extend downwardly crossing each other at the pivot connection 11 with ver.
their lower ends as inclica ed in Fig". 1 resting on the ground. A similar pair of legs are arranged on the other side of the frame and both pairs of legs are joined together by means of transverse rods 12 located near the lower end of the legs.
Two seats or chairs are shown combined with the table, one being opposite the other. Each pair includes. a seat or top 14 having a leg 15 pivoted at 16 to a lug 17 projecting downwardly from the top. The lower end of the leg is pivoted at 18 to the lower portion of the table leg. A second leg 19 is pivoted at 20 to the leg 15 andit crosses it in lazy-tong formation with its upper end ada iited to 05 move in an are under the seat top when the table sections are unlocked, but when locked it supports the seat top. .Another pair of legs 7 n and the legs of the table the seats will fold simultaneously with the table making a comsimilar to the above pair of legs are arranged onthe opposite side of the top and the leg 19 is united to the opposite leg by means of a rod j 21 located at the lower portion ofthe leg.
A pair of levers 22 are fu'lcrumed at 23 to the legs of the table and each lever is slidi-ngly connected by a slot 24 to a pin 25:1 fixed to the leg15. These two levers are both pivoted together at their lower ends.
"Thelegs on the other side of the table have similar levers which operate in: the same way. A link 26 pivoted at 27 to a transverse bar '28 has its lower slotted end 29 coasting with. a pin 30 fixed to the lever. The link actuates the leg 15 to swing its upper end toward the fulcrum 23 of the le- The transverse bar 28 unites one 85 swinging leg 19' with the opposite leg so that both will move in unison.
The method of folding the article is accomplished by unlocking thelatch 8 and swinging the two tablesections upward some as to fold along side of each other as indicated in Fig. 3'. The leg members of the table are thereby swung towards each other ranged under the top. The latch when and the. levers are actuated to move the legs 15 of the seat toward the legs of the table. 9 Atthe same time the link 26 swings the upperend' of the leg member 19 toward the lug and the seat will swing downward. It will thus be obvious that when the table sections are operated the elements conneet'edflthcre with instantly move into action to fold the seats into compact form.
The table is equipped with a spring roller 31 adapted to revolve in the frame. roller is provided with a table cover 32 wound thereon and the cover has a ring 33 fixed to its end. The cover can be pulled over the table top as indicated in dotted lines and attached by means of the ring to a nail 34 fixed to the inner portion of the frame opposite the roller. A drawer 35 suspended from slides 36 is arranged in the forward portion of the frame.
1. In a collapsible table and seat, the combination with a tabletop comprising a pair of hinged sections, leg members pivotally connected to the sections and pivotally connected to each other, of foldable seats having crossed legs pivotally connected together, each seat being connected at only one end to a seat leg pivoted to a table leg, and link means connecting the legs of the seats to the legs of the table top operated by folding saidtop to thereby fold the table legs and seats. 7

In a collapsible table and seat, the combination with a table top comprising a pair of hinged sections, leg members pivotally connected to the sections, and ivotally connected to'each other, of a palr of foldable seats, leg members connected togetherwith one member pivoted to each seat, and-fulcrumed to a table leg member, and means connecting the legs of the seat to the legs 7 of. the table top operated by the-table sec-,
tions by swinging the table sections upward thereby folding the table. legs and seats. e
