QZLM ATTORNEYS.
TH E GRAPHIC COJLY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMUND A. CONNER, OF METROPOLIS, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR SHAPING PLOW-HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,838, dated October 31, 1876; application filed August 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND A. OONNER, of Metropolis, in the county of Massac and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvemcntin Shaping-Machines, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line 09 min Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to apparatus for guidin g plow-handles and other articles while being shaped; and it consists of a frame attached to the side of a shaping-machine, which is capable of being moved vertically by a suitable lever, and which is provided with pins, upon which moves a guide having cam-slots of the form desired in the article to be shaped, the article being clamped to the guide, and moved up to the cutters by a lever connected with the guide.
A is the frame of a shaping-machine, and B the ordinary cutter-head. G 0 are beveled guides attached to the vertical end posts of the frame A, and D is a frame fitted to slide upon the said guides. A pedal or foot-lever, E, is pivoted at a, and is connected to the frame D by the link I). c c are stops on the frame A, which limit the upward motion of the frame D. F is a guide having cam-slots d, which move on the pins 0, that project from the frame D. G is a dog fixed to the upper edge of the guide F, for holding the end of the handle a, and H is a screw-clamp for bolding the body of the handle. The cam-slots d have the form required in the handle or other article being shaped. I is a lever for moving the guide F, which is pivoted at a, and connected to the guide by a rod,f. The article to be shaped is made to engage with the dog G, and is clamped by the clamp H. The frame D is raised by means of the pedal or lever E, and the guide F is moved through the length of the slots (1, feeding the work to the cutters. The cam-slots d, by engaging with the pins 6, cause the guide to move up or down, giving the work the required form. When the work is finished, the frame D is allowed to drop, the work is removed, when the operation may be repeated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination ofthe cutter-head B, frame A, guides 0, frame D, guide F, provided with cam-slots d, the levers E and I, dog G, and clamp H, substantially as shown and described.
