ATTORNEY Patented May 31, 1932 PATENT ()FFICE MARIA FICCIO, OF TAMPA, FLORIDA TROUSERS Application filed June 4, 1930. Serial No. 459,205.
My invention relates to wearing apparel, trousers, and an object thereof is to provide a garment having an insert or gusset arranged in the front portion of trousers fly n which is of a color and shape to give the trousers a unique appearance.
Further, the invention provides a pair of trousers having an opening at the front thereof through which a portion of the wearers H:- shirt may be exhibited or which may be closed by a removable gusset or insert.
lVith the preceding and other OlOJGCtS and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangements of parts and operations to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my 1m 1 proved trousers;
Fig. 2 is a similar view without the insert and exhibiting a portion of the wearers shirt;
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the removable gusset or insert;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectlon taken on line 4- of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a front elevation showing a sl1gh ly diiferent form of the invention; and
Fig. 6 is a transverse section taken on line 66 of Fig. 5.
Referring to the invention in detail, a pair of conventional trousers 5 are shown having waist encircling straps 6 which in practice are secured in operative position by a buckle 7.
The trousers are formed with a V-shaped fly opening 8 having its apex located in close proximity to the crotch portion of the trousers. As particularly illustrated in Fig. 2,
49 the fly opening 8 is relatively large so that the upper edges of the divergent walls lie relatively close to'the vertical side edges of the trouser legs.
A triangular insert or gusset 10 of a contrasting color to the trousers 5 is adapted to be positioned in the V-shaped fly opening 8. Longitudinal rows of buttons 11 are secured along the divergent edges of the insert and are adapted to be engaged with the button 50 holes 12 provided in a button hole strip 13 secured to the inner face of the garment along the edges of the fly opening. 7
To further secure the insert in place a pair of larger buttons 14 are secured to the upper corners of the insert and adapted to be received in button holes 15 provided in the waist portion of the trousers. While I have disclosed buttons and button holes for securing the insert in place, it will be understood that any other practical fastening element may be employed for this purpose.
The insert may be omitted and the lower portion of the wearers shirt utilized in lieu thereof as disclosed in Fig. 2. In this connection, it is pointed out that the shirt should preferably be of a contrasting color so that the portion lying within the confines of the fly opening will be in contrast to the color of the trousers.
In practice, several of the inserts or gussets may be furnished with a pair of trousers and will be of various color patterns so that the wearer may have a wide assortment to select from. While these inserts or gussets are shown located only at the front or fly portion of the garment, they may also, if desired, be provided at the sides or back, or both.
In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the insert receiving opening 8a is made V-shaped or triangular the same as that shown in the other figures, the insert 10a being permanently secured in said opening and made in two sections 16 and 17 stitched to the edges of the openings and closed or connected together by buttons and button holes as shown at 18 forming the regular fly flap to the trousers. While this insert 10a is shown permanently connected with the trousers obviously it may be made detachable if desired.
In all the forms of the invention illustrated the trousers are shown made with the belt strap 6 forming an integral portion of the trousers and connected at the front by a buckle 7 but obviously a separate belt may be used if it is found desirable to do so.
Without further description it is thought that the features and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and it will, of course, be understood that changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to, Without departing from the spirit of the invention or its scope as claimed.
I claim:
A novelty outer garment comprising a pair of trousers having a large V-shaped opening centrally off the front thereof and extending from the Waist band to a point adjacent the crotch portion thereof, a button hole strip extending along both divergent edges of said opening, a triangular insert of approximately the same size as said opening and having rows of buttons secured to the divergent edges thereof for engagement With button holes in said strip whereby to secure said insert in position to completely close said opening and to permit bodily removal thereof at will.
