Patented Aug. 2, 1932 UNITED STATES HAROLD H. BAKER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN KI'I. HAT
Application filed July 7, 1930. Serial no. 465,958.
This invention relates to improvements in kit hats.
Heretofore, it has been necessary for fish- A more specific object of this invention is to provide a kit hat having concealed com- 16 partments therein, said compartments forming receptacles for articles and also prviding air spaces as insulation from summer heat.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for quickly and securely closing said compartments.
A further object of this invention is to provide an improved kit hat having means surrounding the crown for holding additional articles, and more particularly articles of elongated form.
A further object of this invention is to provide an improved kit hat which is simple in construction, neat in appearance, and well adapted for the purpose described.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the improved kit hat and all its parts and combinations, as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing, illustrating one complete embodiment of the preferred form of the invention, in which the same reference numerals designate the same parts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of the improved hat;
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof showing one of the compartments open; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, the hat is of c0nventional form having a brim portion 5 and a crown portion 6, said crown portion having a longitudinal crease 7 therein. A see- .the broad concept of the invention includes tion of material 8, forming a false crown is secured to the inner sides of the crown 6 by stitching 9, or in any other suitable manner. Other stitchin 10 secures the lower portion of the crease to the false crown along an intermediate line to thereby 'form two compartments 11 and 12 between the false crown and the top of the hat.
The upper portion of the hat, over each compartment, is formed with a slit 13, each slit being provided with a strip or multiple slide operated fastener as illustrated at 14 for controlling the opening and closing of the same and admission to the compartments.
The lower portion of the crown has a plurality of loops 15 secured thereto in spaced apart relation. Fish line leaders or other elongated articles may be removably held by said loops in a position surrounding the crown of the hat.
In use, entrance to the compartments 11 and 12 may be readily obtained by operation of the strip fasteners 14, and fish hooks or other articles may be readily inserted in or removed from said compartments as desired.
It may thus be seen that a very novel and useful hat has been provided in which there are roomy compartments for holding various articles, and in which an air space is formed in the upper portion of the hat to provide effective insulation from heat.
Although only one form of the invention has been shown and described, it is not desired to be limited to this exact showing, as
all changes and modifications as may come within the scope of the claims.
What I claim is:
1. A hat comprising a body portion having a crown, said crown having a creased portion, means within the body portion and spaced from the top of 'the crown for forming a compartment therebelow, and means for securing said creased portion of the crown to said last mentioned means to divide said compartment into a plurality of sections.
2. A hat comprising avbody portion having a crown, said crown having a creased portion, means within the body portion and spaced from the top of the crown for forming a compartment therebelow, means for securing said creased portion of the crown to said last mentioned means to divide said comartment into two sections, said crown hav- 5 mg an opening for each section of the compartment, and closure means for each openmg.
3. A hat comprising a body ortion having a crown, means within said ody portion and spaced from the top of the crown for forming a compartment therebelow, the top of the crown being provided with a slit of substantial length, and a multiple slide operated fastener for closing said slit.
In testimony whereof I aflix m signature.
HAROLD H. AKE-R.
