This invention relates to waste paper containers and has for an object to provide a waste paper container which may be hung from the side of a desk, typewriter support,

wall, or any other support so as to be 011' the floor.

A further object is to provide a waste paper container and novel fixtures therefor for securing the container to a support so that the container may be easily and quickly lifted off the support for emptying and readily replaced on the support.

A still further object is to provide a waste paper container which will have at least one fiat wall so as to economize space and will be provided on said wall with a stop for en gagement with the side of the desk, wall or other support to maintain the container against sagging, preferably the stop being adjustable to compensate for inequalities in the support so that the flat wall will always be maintained vertical.

A still further object is to provide novel fixtures for securing the container to the sup- Ort including essentially a cross bar carried y a wall plate which may be screwed to the support and hooks on the upper corners of a face plate which is secured to the fiat wall of the container, the hooks being easily and quickly inserted and removed from the cross bar and when applied to the cross bar operating to position the top of the container horizontal. 1

A still further object is to provide a modified form of fixture in which the face plate which carries the hooks will form an abutment against which the edge of the typewriter platform of a desk will rest to properly position the container upright and prevent sagging of the container.

A still further object is to provide a waste paper container and novel securing fixtures therefor which may be inexpensively constructed, will be strong and durable and will be formed of a few simple parts which will not easily get out of order.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, 10 designates an oflice desk to which the waste paper container may be hung, although the container may be hung upon any other suitable support, such as a wall or the like, so as to be raised from the fioor.-

The waste paper container 11 is preferably formed of light, strong metal, such as brass, steel, aluminum, or other suitable material. The container is preferably formed with a fiat rear wall 12 and in the present embodiment the container is illustrated as being substantially oblong in longitudinal cross section and is constructed with considerable depth so as to present the cubical space ordinarily found in office waste baskets of other shapes while at the same time the container will be appneciably thin'in cross dimension so as to economize space. In the present embodiment the container is also shown as having an inclined front wall 13 which slopes inwardly and downwardly so that the container may be said to taper from the top to the bottom thereof while at the same time the inclined front wall permits of the contents of the basket being readily emptied since the contents will pass from the container over the front wall in the nature of a chute.

The container is preferably finished to harmonize with the color scheme of the desk, wall or other piece of furniture, or even the furnishings of the room in which the container is to be used.

For removably securing the container in position, by now referring to Figure 3, it will be seen that a two-piece fixture is provided. One member of the fixture comprises a cross bar 141 which is connected by a web 15 to a wall plate 16 having a plurality of openings 17 through which screws 17 may be passed, as shown in Fig. 1, to secure the member to the side of a desk or other support. The web is curved longitudinally downwardly and forwardly, and the cross bar is curved transversely upwardly, as best shown in Fig. 3. This member of the fixture may be stamped from a single blank of material, as may also be the mating member.

The mating member of the fixture comprises a substantially triangular face plate 18 which is provided at the upper corners with a pair of spaced inwardly and downwardly curved hooks 19. The bills 20 of the extremities of the hooks are curved outwardly to perform the function of guides for directing the hooks over the ends of the cross bar 14 during application of the hooks to the cross bar. The cross bar nests in the bights of the hooks, as shown in Fig. 2, and by virtue of the upward curvature of the cross bar the curvature of the cross bar will conform to that of the hooks so that a secure nonrattling connection between the hooks and the cross bar will be efiected. The face plate is provided with a plurality of openings 21 through which screws 22 or other connectors may be passed to rigidly secure the face plate to the flat wall 12 of the container at the top thereof.

Bynow referring to Fig. 2, it will be seen that a stop 23 is secured to the fiat Wall 12 of the container near the bottom thereof and directly underneath the hooked face plate 18. The stop is preferably formed'of rubber or other material and is provided preferably with a nut 24 and with an axial opening 25 to receive a screw 26 which is threaded through an opening 27 formed in the fiat rear wall 12 of the container. The stop is adapted to engage with the side of a desk, wall, or other support, and hold the. basket vertical. By screwing the stop outwardly or inwardly, inequalities in the desk may be counteracted so as to adapt the container to old desks or the like.

However, if the container is manufactured to suit the type of desk at the time the desk itself is made, it will not be necessary to make the stop adjustable, merely a rubber knob or the like may be secured direct to the container preferably by means of a slender boss, nub, or other suitable securing device.

by now. referring to Fig. 5, it will be seen that a modified form of cross bar fixture member is illustrated, the same comprising a cross bar 28, a web 29, and an attaching plate 30. Openings 31. are formed in the attaching plate to receive screws 32 or other suitable connectors for securing the attaching plate to the top surface of the typewriter supporting platform 33 which pulls out from the side of a typewriter desk 34,. lln this modilied form, of fixture member, the web 29 is curved longitudinally upwardly to space the cross bar as sufficiently above the top face of the typewriter platform to receive the hooks 19 carried by the waste paper container 11, as best shown in Fig. 4. inasmuch as the hooked fixture member in this modified form of the invention is not modified or changed, the same numerals and same description as hitherto outlined will suffice. it will be particularly pointed out, however, that when the modified form of cross bar fixture member is used, the edge of the typewriter supporting platform will bear or abut the face plate 18 of the hooked fixture member and properly position the container to hang vertically from the typewriter platform.

It will be pointed out that in either embodiment of the invention the hooks 19 may be readily passed over or disengaged from the cross bar of the mating member of the fixture so that a minimum time and care will be required to lift the container from the desk or other support for emptying and replace the same on the support when empty. It will also be pointed out that the container, when applied to a desk or other support, is always within convenient reach of the user and is always to be found in the same place, which is not the case when waste paper baskets are set on the floor, in which latter position they are usually a great source of annoyance due to being stumbled over.

Having thus described the invention, 1 claim:

A quick detachable fixture for mounting a container to hang from either an edge or the wall of a support, comprising a plate formed of sheet metal and having an integral curved web projecting forwardly from the center of one edge, said web terminating in an integral cross bar of arched cross section, said cross bar projecting at both ends laterally beyond the side edges of the web, and a second plate formed of sheet metal and having spaced hooks on the top edge adapted to engage snugly upon the arched top surface of the cross bar on opposite sides of the web and position the second named plate below and in front of the first named plate, both of said sheet metal plates having openings adapted to receive mounting screws, the bills of said hooks being bent outwardl to provide guides for initially engaging the top surface of the cross bar for directing the hooks into position upon the cross bar, said plates when said hooks are engaged extending at substantially a right angle to each other whereby when one of the plates is attached to the top surface of a support the other plate will engage the edge of the support for positionin a container upright and stationary on said edge.
