SANITARY PAPER ROLL Filed Dec. 5, 1931 Jim W M lxNvENToR. BY J /JZZ/ ATTORNEYS.
Patented Dec. 20, 1932 PATENT OFFICE LESTER VAN WAGNER, F RICHMOND HILL, NEW YORK SANITARY PAPER ROLL Application filed December This invention relates to improvements in sanitary paper rolls and feeding devlces therefor and more particularly has for 1ts object the provision of a device used in connection with the examining tables or platforms used by physicians.
A particularly object of this lnventlon is the provision of a sanitary paper roll and feeding device therefor which can be attached to an ordinary examining table used by physicians and which will provide inchvidual sanitary paper sheets for the eX a1 n1'- nation of each patient seen by the physic an using the device.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a paper roll and feeding device therefor which can be conveniently attached to any examining table or platform used by physiciansand in which a sheet of appropr1- ate length can be readily detached by the ph sician.
Further objects of this invention Wlll be apparent from the specification and drawing in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing my device applied to a physicians examining table.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of my device showing same applied to the end of a table.
ig. 3 is a vertical section showing the method of releasing the roll from the holder.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section showing the roll in lace.
ig. 5 is an enlarged perspective view showing the parts of the holding device.
ig. 6 is an enlarged perspective view of a modified form of the bar 24, shown in Fig. 5.
10 indicates an examining table having thedemountable top 11, adjustable by means of the bars 12. Attached to the top 11 is a U-shaped bracket 13 fixed in place by the adjustable screws 14. Attached to the U- shaped bracket 13 is the frame 15 having the arms 16 and 16a. The arms 16 and 16a have 0 nings therein 17 and 17a, the opening in 1 a being closable by the swinging cover 18a, the opening 17 being closed by the fixed cover 18. The movable cover 18a is movable upon the arm 17a by means of the pivot 19. In the cover 18a is a depression 20 registering 5, 1931. Serial No. 579,181.
in and fitting into the slot 21. The roll of paper is held upon the spindle 22, the paper itself being denominated as 23.
The method of introducing the roll of paper into the holder can be readily ascertained from an inspection of Fig. 3. In detaching a sheet of paper from the roller, same istorn off from the bar 24, a modified and enlarged form having a serrated edge of which is shown in Fig. 6 of the drawing.
The brackets and 25a are attached to the arms 16 and 16a respectively and the bar 24 is adjustably connected to these brackets by the screws 26 and 26a which hold the springs 27 and 27a. The bar 24 may be detached from engagement with the body 15, it being mounted by means the other end being held by the end 29 bent at right angles to the body of the bar and pressing against the spring 27.
A sterilized roll of paper 23 is mounted upon the spindle 22 and inserted into the frame 15 by lowering the spindle 22 into the opening in the arm 16a and then moving the spindle into the opening 17 (see Fig. 3 of the drawing). The spindle is then looked into position by the cover 18a fitting over the opening 17a by means of the indentation 20 fitting in the slot 21.
The manner of feedin the paper sheet onto the table can be readily seen from Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing and the sheet is extended over the examining table as far as may be necessary without being detached from the roller. After the examination is complete, the sheet is torn off on the bar 24, a modification of which with serrated teeth is shown in Fig. 6. The serrated teeth permit the easier detachment of a definite length of paper from the roll.
I have shown herein a convenient apparatus for mounting a sanitary roll of paper upon a physicians table and it is obvious that changes and modifications may be made in this apparatus without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a roll holder for a roll of paper, the combination of a spindle for the roll of the of the eye 28 and same diameter throughout and of a length to project beyond the ends of the roll, a U- shaped frame, the ends of the side arms of which have openings therein providing radially closed bearings for the ends of the spindle, one of said bearings being permanently closed beyond the end of the spindle, while the other said bearing is open at both sides of its arm longitudinally of the spindle, the latter bearing bein of sufficiently larger diameter than the spindle that when the latter is ushed through this bearing, it may be roc ed therein clear of the end of the other side arm naving therein the said closed bearing, and a closure adapted to be opened for closing the said open bearing beyond the end of the spindle for retaining the latter in its operative position in both bearings.
2. The invention defined in claim 1, in which the said U-shaped frame has a straight cross bar connecting its side arms together, in combination with a tearing-off bar attached to the said frame to extend alongside of its said cross bar and by means of which a desired length of paper from the roll may be detached.
3. The invention defined in claim 1, in which the said U-shaped frame has a straight cross bar connecting its side arms together, in combination with a tearing-off bar attached to the said frame to extend alongside of its said cross bar and having a sharp edge adjacent the cross bar by means of which a desired length of paper from the roll may be detached, a pair of screws supporting the tearing-oil bar on the frame adjacent to its side arms, and springs adjustable by means of these screws for pressing the tearing-off bar toward the cross bar of the frame.
4. In a roll holder for a roll of paper, the combination of a spindle forming a 'ournal for the rotation of the roll, a U-shape frame having side arms to hold the spindle and having a cross bar connecting its side arms together, a U-shaped member providing a deep open slot between its sides and having one of its sides fixed on the said cross bar with its said slot opening along lines parallel with the said cross bar adjacent thereto, a clamping screw carried by one of the sides of the U- shaped member providing for detachably connecting said member to the edge of a table for thereby mounting said frame on the table with the side arms of the frame extending away from the edge of the table, and a tearing-off bar attached to the said frame adjacent to its side arms to extend along its cross bar adjacent to the open seat of said member and by means of which a desired length of paper drawn from the roll over the table may be detached.
5. In a roll holder for a roll of paper, the combination of a spindle forming a journal for the rotation of the roll, a U-shaped frame having side arms to hold the spindle and having a cross bar connecting its side arms together a U-shaped member providing a deep open slot between its sides and having one of its sides fixed on the said cross bar with its said slot opening along lines parallel with the sa1d cross bar a jacent thereto, and a clamping screw carried by one of the sides of the U-shaped member providin for detachably connecting said member to t e edge of a table for thereby mounting said frame on the table with the side arms of the frame extending away from the ed e of the table.
In testimony w ereof I aflix my signature.
LESTER VAN WAGNER.
