The invention relates to a device for preventing gonorrhea-infection in consequence of sexual intercourse.

It is known that the gonococcus pyogenes,

which is the germ causing this disease, has no motility, and dies under the action of air, light or any medicament, provided the germ can be attacked.

Since the gonococcus has no motility, it

penetrates very slowly into the urethra and only under the mechanical effect of congestion of the mucose of the urethra or when the same becomes distended (and contracted) through erection or on account of movements performed as in micturation, or coitus.

Object of the present invention is a means for attacking and killing the germ before it may penetrate deeper into the urethra.

One form of execution of the device is illustrated by way of example on the annexed drawing in which Fig. l is an end view of the device seen from the inner side;

The device comprises a flexible plate a of vulcanized rubber or any other suitable more flexible material which is coated on its inner side with any of the known rubber solutions, for instance of the kind employed on the sticking plaster. Said solutions have the advantage that they do not come off when damped and do not leave any trace.

Said plate carries at the inner side a thin sponge-ring 6, designed to collect the urinedropping which generally follows micturation.

At the center of the ring 6 projects a wedge shaped small piece 0 of sponge or any other suitable material imbibed with an appropriate medicament.

When the device is used this small wedge shaped piece 0 of sponge or other suitable materia is introduced a few millimeters deep into the meatus of the urethra. By means of the local humidity and of the residual drops of urine from the previous micturation, the anti-gonococcic medicament (e. g. silver salts) in the wedge-shaped piece of sponge or other material, is dissolved and acts while the opening of the urethra is held distended by the same sponge without any irration on account of the softness of the piece 0 introduced.

One edge d of the plate a is not coated with the rubber-solution in order to facilitate 0 manipulating the device, and a cut 6 is pro vided to leave a passage for the frenulum praeputii.

For sale the device is made up applied upon a convex metal disc 7 provided at its 5 center with a reentering portion 9 within which the piece 0 is disposed.

When the device is to be used it is removed from the metal disc 7 and then placed upon the glans in such a manner that the cut 0 is disposed on the direction of the frenulum and the piece 0 is introduced in the meatus of the urethra. After use the device is easily removed by softly pulling it ofi taking it by the edge d.

It is to be understood that the details of construction and of disposition can vary in practice from those described and illustrated without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A device for preventing and treating infection consisting of a flexible plate member, 5 one side of said plate, being coated with a rubber solution, a wedge-shaped medicament charged sponge projecting centrally from the same side of said plate and a sponge ring encircling said wedge-shaped sponge for the purpose specified.
