Patented May 23, 1933 PATENT OFFICE' 'WALTER PASCOE, 02|!"4 EVANSVILLE, INDIANA InsrENsING` APPARATUS Application led November 27, 1931. Serial No. 577,450.
The invention relates to improvements in dispensing apparatus and has for its primary object the provision of an improved apparatus or device of the character indicated whichV greatly facilitates the display and dispnsing of articles in grocery stores or the li e.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved apparatus of the character indicated especially designed and constructed to cooperate With an ordinary display shelf of a grocery store or the like to facilitate the display and dispensing of articles therefrom.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. y
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forminfr a part of this specification, and in which xFig. 1 is a front View showing a number of devices embodying the invention in position of use on a grocery shelf',
Fig. 2 a section taken substantially on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 a partial section taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a suitable frame made up of front and rear brackets 10 and 11, each consisting of a metal strip bent into substantially U-shape, as shown?. The brackets 10 and 11 are connected by four angle members 12 and 13 arranged in transversely registering pairs as shown.` The members of the lower pair of angle members 12 are secured to the bottoms of the brackets 10 and 11 by means of rivets 14, a pair of perforated ears 15 being interposed at the front and spacing washers 15 being interposed at the rear to thereby provide a guide space or channel 16 under the inner edges of the horizontal legs of the angle members 12, as best shown in Fig. 3.
Cross bars 17 are secured to angle members 13 at front and rear by means of rivets 18, spacing washers 19 being interposed to form a guide space or channel corresponding to the channel 16,
The arrangement thus provided forms a light and rigid frame adapted and arranged to be positioned or secured to the top of an ordinary shelf 2O of a grocery store or the like, as indicated, the ear 15 being secured to the front edge of the shelf by means of -screws 21 and the rear bracket 11 being. se-
cured thereto by means of a screw 22, as indicated.
Cooperating with each guide provided in the said supporting frame is a slide 23 sliding in the guide channels provided as explained above and as shown.
Each of the slide members is formed from a strip of sheet metal of a width to fit nicely in the guide channels anddownwardly bent at its front end to form a finger lip 24 and upwardly bent at its rear end to form a stop or push tongue 25, as shown, notches 26 being provided at the juncture to accommodate the edges of the guide channels 12 and 13, as best shown in Fig. 3.
In use and in practice, one or more of the frames thus provided is secured to a shelf 20 of a grocery store or the like, as indicated. Articles such as spice packages 27 are then arranged on the article supports i'n a row extending rearwardly from the front edge of the shelf. lVhen it is desired to dispense or remove one of the packages, the finger lip 24 is engaged and the corresponding slide drawn outwardly or forwardly, thereby carrying the front article outwardly lalong the edge of the shelf to facilitate its removal, as indicated bythe dotted lines in Fig. 2. Thereupon the slide may be pushed back into place, but the row of articles will remain in position with the front article in substantial registration with the front edge of the shelf so that the front remaining article of the row is thus always presented for display at the front edge of the shelf and without any manipulation or rearrangement after the removal of an outermost article. Obviously, as many or as few as desired of the frames may be applied to each shelf of the grocery store or the While I have illustrated and described the preferred apparatus for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scfipe of the appended claims.
claim:
1. The combination with a shellike support of a supporting frame mounted thereon to extend back from the front edge thereof;
superposed article supports in said frame and extending back from the front edgeof the shelf; and delivery slides cooperating with said article supports to move articles thereon to the front edge of said shelf, each of said slides consisting of a strip of sheet metal downwardly bent at its front end toform a finger lip and upwardly bent at its rear end to form a. stop cooperating with the corresponding article support and arranged to engage directly the rear-most article on said supports and move the row of articles forward.
2. Apparatus of the class described comprising two vertically arranged substantially U-shaped bracket members; a plurality of angle members secured to said bracket members in transversely registering pairs to form article supports; and delivery members slidably mounted in cooperative relationship with each pair of said angle members and adapted and arranged to cooperate with said angle members to move articles supported thereon to the front of the frame.
3. Apparatus of the class described comprising two vertically arranged substantially U-shaped bracket members; a plurality of angle members secured to said bracket members in transversely registering pairs to form article supports; and delivery members slidably mounted in cooperative relationship with each pair of said angle members and ada ted and arranged to cooperate with said ang e members to move articles supported thereon to the front of the frame, each of said delivery members consisting of a Astrip of sheet metal downwardly bent at its front end to form a linger lip and upwardly bent at its rear end to form a stop cooperating with the angle members. l 4. The combination with a sheliike support, of a supporting frame mounted thereon to extend back from the front edge thereof; supporting ledges extending inwardly from the sides of said frame; a delivery slide slidably mounted against the under sides of said ledges; and/a stopat the rear end of said slide extending upwardly between said ledges, said stop being formed by turning the rear end of said slide upwardly, there being notches at the juncture between the stop and the slide iitting over the edges of said ledges.
5. A device of the class described comprising two U-shaped brackets connected together .by means of transversely registering angle members arranged with one of their le s extending inwardly to form supports; a. eliv-` ery slide slidably mounted against the under sides of said angle member supports; and a stop at the rear end of said slide extending upwardly `between said angle member supports.
- 6. A device of the class described comprismembers arranged with one of their legs extending inwardly to form supports; a delivery slide slidably mounted against the under sides of said angle member supports; and a stop at the rear end of said slide extending upwardly between said angle'member supports, said stop being formed by turning the rear end of said slide upwardly, there being notches at the juncture between the stop and the slide fitting over the edges of said angle melnber supports.
8. A device of the class described comprising two U-shaped brackets connected together by means of a plurality of angle members arranged with one of their legs extending inwardly to form supports, said angle members being arranged in transversely registering pairs; a delivery slide slidably mounted against the under sides of each pair of angle member supports; and a stop at the rear end of each slide extending upwardly between the corresponding angle member supports.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 23d day of November, 1931.
