Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,728, dated July 3, 1877; application filed May 18, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY J. BAILEY, of Pittsburg, county of Allegheny, State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered a new and useful Improvement in Shower-Bath Apparatus; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full,- c lear, concise, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, in which-like letters indicating like parts- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved apparatus for shower-baths, the rose and its supporting-bracket being shown by aid of dotted lines in two positions. Figs. 2 and 3 represent modificationsin the construction of the rose, and Figs. 4, 5, and dare sectional views of the combined cock used, representing the same in different positions.

and recess 13, as shown in Fig. 2, or by anequivalent device.

The bracket e may be of any construction, such as will allow of adjustment in one or more directions but by preference I use one, which admits of being elevated or depressed,

moved sidewise, and to and from the wall or support, as shown in Fig.1; and I also prefer to joint or hinge the several sections so that the outer arm, to which I have shown the rose attached, may be placed in a horizontalposition, as shown.

By means of the screw-clamp d the rose may be adjusted on the bracket to direct the shower in any direction, and the adjustment of the bracket allows the rose to be set at any point desired within the range of the bracket.

When the rose dis released from the bracket, the sharp angle made by its sides and face is liable to dent or mar the tub or furniture with which it comes in contact. To prevent this I inclose or guard such angle by an elastic band,

' g, as shown. This band may be kept in place by overlapping the angle, as shown in Fig. 3,

or a recess or groove, 8, may be made in the outerperiphery of the rose at or near the angle, and an elastic band seated therein, as shown in Fig. 2, the band being broken away in part in both figures to show the groove and angle.

The cocks. BB unite in or open into the pipe a, which pipe is provided with two ports or openings, 1' 'r, as shown in Figs. 4, 5, and 6, one port, r, being placed, by preference, on theunder side of the pipe, so as to discharge directly downward, as shown in Fig. 5, the other port 4" being placed on the upper side of such pipe, but not directly above the port 1'.

The case 0 is also provided with two ports on its opposite sides, opening into the nozzles b b. This case is fitted to the pipe at so as to operate as a valve, and, by turning the same, to open or close the ports 7' 1". When adjusted, as shown in Fig.5, the port 1' opens to the nozzle 12 and discharges directly downward, the port 1" being closed. By turning the nozzle b to the left, as shown in Fig. 4, the port 7' will be closed and the port 7" opened to the nozzle b for shower.

The usual wasteport is shown at o. By turning the nozzle 12 to that side, as shown in Fig. 6, both ports 7 T will be closed, and the contents of the hose H drained off. If preferred, the waste-port 2: may be extended up to the top of the pipe as, as shown, so as to drain the hose when the port 1 is open. By this arrangement either port may be opened, I or both closed, by a slight movement of the case or valve 0, whereas, as formerly constructed, a semi-rotation of the valve was necessary in order to change the discharge from one nozzle to the other.

I do notwish to confine myself to a movable valve or nozzle case, since the pipe 0. may be made to turn as a cock, and thus open either port to the proper discharge-nozzle. Also, the ports 0 0* may be ,placed in line, one above the other, and the nozzles b b so placed on the case or valve 0 as to open but oneport atatime; and such modificationslconsider mechanical equivalents of the devices described.

I claim herein as my invention- 1. In a shower-bath apparatus, the combination of a rose, an adjustable bracket, a hosepipe, and a water-supply, substantially as described.

2. A bath-shower nozzle, provided with a suitable clamp or device for attaching to and detaching the same from a bracket or support, substantially as described.

3. In a shower-bath apparatus, the combination of rosed, having a clamp, d, or equivalent device, and an adjustable bracket, sub

stantially as set forth.

4. In combination with a water-supply-pipe, a bath-discharge nozzle, b, a shower-discharge nozzle, 1), a valve or case, 0, and a pipe or cook,

a, having two or more ports, 1' r, or openings,

substantially as described, whereby either nozzle may be opened to its supply-port, or both closed by a slight movement of the valve.
