Description
M. FACTOR MAKE-UP BOX Jan. 23, 1934.
Filed Jan. 27, 1931 I raster Application dentistry at, 19th.
denial No. Eilhbdt 3 Claims, tel. tea-eel i /Iy invention relates to make-up boxes or hand cases used by moving picture people for earrying the toilet articles and make-up materials for convenient use on location, or dressing rooms, and while especially designed for conveniently serving these people, it will be clear that this invention can be used with much satisfaction by others.
Among the salient objects 01' my invention are to provide a compact box crease which can be eonveniently carried as a hand-case or hand-bag is carried and which can be ioclred when desired, said box or case having a plurality of trays which can be quickly and conveniently moved into convenient positions to be accessible and to uncover the chamber in the box or case body so as to make the articles and materials therein easily accessi-- bie; to provide in a box of the character referred -2 article trays which, when moved together, are locked in the box when the lid of said box or case is closed down; to provide an improved means for slidably connecting two trays together over the chamber of a box, whereby said trays can be moved apart at opposite sides of the box body and supported at their normal levels in accessible positions, at the same time uncovering-and making accessible the contents or" the box or case; and, in general, to provide a simple, practical and convenient makeup box or the like which can be quickly opened to give full access to all articles and materials carried therein and which can be as quickly closed up and locked without intermingling'the contents of the case.
In order to more fully explain my invention, I have illustrated the same on the accompanying sheet of drawing, which I will now describe.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a make-up box or case, embodying my invention and shown opened up as when in use;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary, perspective view of one end of the case in closed condition, showing how the ends of the trays appear when the box is closed; and
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of a de-' tall, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
, Referring now more in detail to the drawing, 4 designates a box or case body, with a. cover or lid 5, hinged to the back side thereof, with locking clasps 6, 6, adapted, when said cover is closed down, as seen in Fig. 2, to lock into thelocks '7, 7, in the usual manner. On the inside of said cover is a mirror 8, adapted to be removed by releasing a holdingclip 9, the opposite side of the mirror being inserted under two fixed clips, as 10.
Two trays, l1 and 12, with covers 11' and 12',
are slidably mounted in the top or the. open box or case, said trays having secured to their front and back edges, telescoping members, as and w bers serving to hold them level when so pulledout to the opposite ends of the box or case. It will be seen that the ends of the box are cut down to receive the trays. This will be seen in end View, in closed position, in Fig. 2. Ihe trays may be divided and arranged as desired, but the present showing, each tray has at its outer end and just inside its end member, an upstanding flange-like member or ledge, so formed and positioned that when said trays are closed together, over the chamber of the box, and the lid 5 is closed down, as in Fig. 2, the end of the lid will overlap said upstanding flange-dike members l5, 15, thus making it impossible to move the trays out until the lid or cover is uns locked and raised. The inner ends of said trays are extended downwardly, as at 16, and are adapted to engage the ends 4 of the case when said trays are pulled out to open positions, as seen in Fig. 1. Thus said trays can be pulled outwardly until stopped by the ends of the box,
and when closed, said trays are locked in. posi= and while I have shown and described in detail one practical form or embodiment of my invention, I am aware that changes in details can be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not, therefore limit the invention to the details of con shown in enlarged sectional view in Fig. 3,
struction and arrangement shown for illustrative formed with tray receiving openings therein ex-- 1 tending from their top edges downward and guideways formed on the insideot the front and back walls of said box, two trays having a combined length corresponding to the length of said box and a depth corresponding to said tray receiving openings, a pair of telescoping supporting members in each of said guideways and between the front and back of the box and the said guideways supporting said telescoping members as said trays are moved apart to extend beyond the opposite ends of said box to expose the open interior of said box, and said hinged lid of said box closing down over the top edges of said trays when said trays are moved within said box and locking them within the box.
2. In a device of the character described, a box having a lid, the opposite ends of the box having tray receiving openings, a pair of sliding trays received in the openings, and a pair of members respectively attached to each tray and arranged to interengage as the trays are brought toward each other, so as to provide a sliding support for the trays in the openings.
3. A box of the character described, said box having a lid, a pair of sliding trays overlying the interior of the box when the trays are slid in openings arranged at opposite ends of the box, and to be held in such overlying position by engagement of the lid with the outer edge of each tray, characterized by the fact that a pair of supporting members is provided for each tray respectively at opposite sides of each tray, which interengage with corresponding members .of the other tray.
