This invention relates to a boot or shoe made of either rubber or leather or other suitable material and of that class intended for work, or by use of hunters, firemen and others where a heavy boot is required to protect the foot.

Boots and shoes of this kind requiring to be heavy do not fit the foot in the same manner as the usual shoe and are required to be of a larger size than the usual shoe so that the foot may be inserted and withdrawn therefrom as the sides or uppers are not sufficiently soft and flexible to allow the same to be bent in inserting the foot.

For this reason, boots of this class do not fit the wearers foot in a snug manner and thus they produce blisters and sore feet as well as cold feet in the winter.

lhe object of the invention is to provide means either incorporated into the manufacture of the boot, or as an attachment, whereby the excess space between the inside of the shoe or boot and the foot of the wearer is filled up after the foot is inserted.

Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the space between the side of the boot and the foot of the wearer is cushioned to provide a soft contact with the foot.

Still another object of the invention being to provide means whereby the foot is insulated from the outer heat or cold.

With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views, and it is understood that slight changes may be made without departing from the invention.

Figure 1 shows a side elevation of a boot, partly in section to show the device applied thereto.

Figure 2 shows the side elevation of a foot, with the invention applied as an attachment adapted to be used with any boot or shoe.

Figure 3 shows a detailed view of the device, as used in Figure 2.

Referring to the drawing:-

While I have indicated a rubber boot, comprising the upper 10 having the sole 11, it is understood that any type of boot or shoe may be employed as desired, and that the device may be incorporated into the same during its manufacture or used in connection with any boot or shoe, and of any suitable material.

Referring to Figure 1, the boot is shown with the upper 10 having attached thereto in any desired position, such as the front, rear or sides, one or more compartments or blisters 12 which are attached to the lower end of a tube 13 extending upward and provided at its upper end with a valve 14 similar to the valve used on an inner tube of a tire.

As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the device is in the form of a bag 12 or any suitable size and shape, and to which is attached a tube 13 and valve 14.

In this form the device is first inserted into the boot with part of the same under the heel of the foot if desired, or in any other position; the foot is then inserted and the bag 12 inflated with air through the valve 14 and tube 13, thus providing a soft cushion between the surface of the boot and the foot, not only providing a soft padding, but filling the otherwise open space and making the boot fit the foot in a perfect manner; as well as providing an air space to act as an insulating means to keep out heat or cold.

When it is desired to remove the boot from the foot the air is allowed to escape, deflating the bag.

If desired, the device may be attached to the inner surface of the boot or shoe by some suitable mechanical means, allowing of ready replacements and renewals, and also the tube may be secured in a like manner.

Above the valve 14 is attached a hand operated bulb pump 18 of any suitable design by which the bags may be inflated.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As an article of manufacture, a bottle shaped pneumatic bag formed with a flat bottom, tapered sides and a neck, a filler tube attached to said neck, said bag to be placed within a boot between the same and the foot of the wearer with the tube extending from said boot.
