The main object of this invention is to protainer member have a pair of tongues 22 rising vide a carrying case which is preferably adapted to be secured to a girdle or belt as worn upon the person, and has for its purpose the storage of such requisites as compact units for women, and

as a cigarette case or coin purse for men.

Another object of ihe invention is to provide a carrying case comprising an elongated body in which compact units, cigarettes or coins may be 10 stored in a leak-proof manner, so that the device may be used by a leather or one who exposes himself to the elements.

The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like named parts in the drawing.

Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the carrying case shown closed with the lid or cover in place thereon.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevational View thru a modified type of carrying case, showing the laich arms and lid in place thereon.

Figure 3 is a. fragmentary top plan view showing a portion of the lid and one of the latch arms broken away, to illustrate the sealing cushion seat.

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional elevational view of a portion of the lid and container, illuslrating the releasable means for locking the lid in place on the container.

Figure 5 is a perspective view showing the locking ridges on the lid.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral indicates the elongated, ovoid-shaped wall of the container. This container is closed at i s lower end by a bottom 11, which completely seals said container at one end. The upper end of said container is provided with an internally projecting seal 12, which bounds the open portion of said container and inclines downwardly.

A waterproof compressible cushion 13 rests upon the seat 12, and has a convergingly inclined lower area 14. This cushion is of the same shape as the container having the identical contour, and is preferably formed of some suitable material such as rubber or other compressible, non-porous product. This cushion is seated frictionally upon the depending rim 16, which hangs suspended from the flat lid 17 of the container unit. This lid is of the same shape and contour as the container, having rounded ends 18. Said lid intermediate its width is provided with a plurality of transverse extending pointed ridges 19, whose purpose will be more fully hereinafter described. The rounded ends 20 and 21 of the conupwardly therefrom. These tongue members are permanently secured to the lower contacting ends of the container so that the upper ends of said tongues remain flexible and may be displaced by pressure of the fingers against a pair of mutually adjacently positioned pawls 24. The lower face of the pawls have channels 25 in which ridges 19 formed on the lid member register. The pawl members 24 as shown are constructed with an inclining cam surface 26 so arranged that when the edge of the rim is rested upon said cam surfaces and urged downwardly, said lid will trip these pawls and displace the tongues outwardly and away from each other until the lid member 17 rests upon and slightly compresses the cushion 13.

As previously stated, I provide a carrying case with elongated yokes 2'7, which have feet 28 thereon, raising the connecting members 2'7 of the yokes outwardly so that a passageway between portion 27 and the walls of the container 20 is formed. This passageway is utilized for and receives the cross section of a girdle or belt and is indicated by the numeral 29. The feet 28 are preferably secured to the wall of the container by rivets 30 or similar other attaching means.

A modified form of container is shown in Figure 2. This container is identical in some respects with the preferred type of container shown in the other views on the drawing and the same numerals will be applied to identical parts. The curved ends 20 and 21 of this modified container have hinge plates 31 securely fastened throughout. Said plates are joined by pins 33 to pivoted arms 32, which latter are adapted and swing outwardly and away from the sides of the container. The lid or cover 34 of the container unit is of the same outline as the latter and has a beaded edge 35 which forms a bounding channel 36. In this channel a substantial semi-circular compressible cushion 37 is mounted. The fiat face of the pawl 38 rides over this head 35 compresses the cushion 38 and seals the lid in place upon the container in a leak-proof manner.

Thisdevice is used for the purpose of carrying perishable articles which may be injured by moisture, or contaminated, or destroyed by becoming wet.

I propose to provide a container sealed at the bottom as stated, with a seat 12 at the upper open end upon which a cushion 13 rests. This cushion is adapted to be compressed by a downward movement of the fingers and at the same time that this movement is taking place the pawls 24 are deflected outwardly so as to provide a path for the passage of the rounded ends of the lid as the upper surface of the lid sinks beneath the pawls. The pawls again resume their normal upright position. This can only be accomplished by compressing the cushion slightly and the lid becomes the sealing member for the carrying case and consequently hermetically closes the container in a waterproof manner.

It is to be noted that certain changes in form and construction may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

I claim:

In a carrying case an elongated container, a flat lid on said container, a compressible cushion adapted to serve as a sealing member between said lid and said container, resilient tongues secured at one end to said container, pawls integral with and surmounting said tongues, an inclined cam surface on said pawls, a seat on said container, an inclined seat on said container extending inwardly, a rim depending from said lid opening the seat on said container internally in the latter, said cushion being mounted on the rim and contacting with the bottom of said lid, transversely located, teethed ridges on the obverse face of said lid and a plurality of pointed ridges on said pawl being adapted to register in and engage the teeth on said lid by deflecting said pawls and correspondingly compressing said cushion.
