IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-BOXES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LLOYD T. BREWER, of St. Clair, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tobacco and Match Boxes, which improvement is fully set forth in the annexed specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

The object of my invention is to provide a box for carrying tobacco and matches, which are both inclosed in one case, which case has two compartments, and separate lids or covers, fastened by catches, the two compartments being divided by 'a partition running longitudinally in the inside of the case, as will be more fully described herein, and described in part by means of the drawings.

In referring to the annexed drawings, Figure 1 shows an end elevation of my invention, having the lids or covers partly open. Fig. 2 shows a transverse vertical section, representing the parts and mode of constructing my invention.

A represents the rim of the box inclosing the compartments E E, and to which the lids or covers B G are hinged upon opposite sides, and opening in opposite directions. D represents a closing partition, dividing the interior of the box into two compartments, E E,one of which is larger than the other, and intended to hold tobacco, and the other (smaller) one is for matches. F F represent the hinges of the lids or covers, and G G represent the catches used to fasten the lids. The catches.

are placed on the opposite sides of the lids. H represents a portion of the lid of the compartment of the box for matches, roughened,

so that it will afford a surface properly prepared for striking matches.

' Thehinges, catches, and roughened surface, as well as the whole box, may be made of any desired shape or form, providing the hereinbefore-mentioned points are adhered to in constructing the box.

It will be readily observed that this invention embraces in a cheap form a tobacco and match box and a match-striker, made compact and convenient.

Having thus'described my invention, what I desire to claim as new, and secure by Letters Patent, is-

The box herein described, as a new article of manufacture, consisting of the rim A, the hinged lids B O,hinged and opening on opposite sides, the catches G G, and the longitudinal partition D, forming the compartments E E, constructed, arranged, or combined substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore described.
