1 Claim.

My invention as to one phase thereof relates to the securing of Government revenue stamps to barrels made of metal and more especially beer barrels; and as to another phase thereof to a particular construction of push pin for use more especially in the securing of such stamps in place on barrels of the kind above referred to.

As a. preface to the following description, it may be stated that in accordance with common practice the stamps are pasted against the metal of the barrel resulting oftentimes in the separation of the stamp from the barrel due to the wetting of the adhesive by the moisture which condenses on the barrels upon their removal from the refrigerator apparatus.

One of my objects is to provide for securely holding the stamps in place on the barrels and by means which shall be of simple and economical construction and easily applied and which preferably may bear trade-mark or other advertising indicia.

Another object is to provide a novel construction of push pin particularly for the use above stated and which will be securely held in position against rotation on the part to which it is applied; and other objects as will be manifest from the following description.

Referring to the accompanying drawing:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view of the top of a metal beer barrel showing the Government stamp secured thereto in accordance with my invention and by my improved push pin.

and viewed in the direction of the arrows.

Referring to the illustrated embodiment of my invention, a portion of the top head of a metal barrel such as is used for beer and to which a Government revenue stamp is to be applied, is represented at 5 and is formed, in accordance with common practice, with a countersunk portion 6 apertured at 7 and to which a metal bushing 8 having an opening 9 registering with the opening '7, is connected, the opening into the barrel thus provided and having a stopper 10, as for example of cork, being used for tapping the beer.

In applying the Government stamp represented at 11 to the barrel it is placed across the outer end surface of the stopper 10 to the position shown in the drawing and secured in place by suitable means, as for example, and preferably,

the push pin device represented generally at 12 which is formed of a head 13 and a pointed shank 14, the latter being pushed through the stamp 11 and into the stopper' l0, the head of the push pin being of relatively large diameter as shown to provide a secure grip on the stamp.

The head 13 of the push pin device is shown as formed of a disk 15 preferably of metal having one or more prongs 16 cut from the metal thereof and bent to extend rearwardly, this prong, or prongs, as the case may be, becoming embedded in the stopper 10, in the positioning of the push pin, and preventing rotation of the latter.

The shank 14 of the device, shown as provided with a head 19 extends through a central hole 20 in the disk 15 and is held in place by interposing this head between the disk l5 and the celluloid covered sheet 17 as shown.

In the use of the construction the push pin would be removedbefore the barrel is tapped and the Government stamp destroyed.

As will be understood from the foregoing, pro- Vision is made for securely holding the Government stamp in place on the barrel without depending on an adhesive, the holding qualities of which are impaired when moisture accumulates on the barrel.

While I have illustrated and described a particular construction embodying my invention, I do not wish to be understood as intending to limit it thereto, as the same may be variously modified and altered without departing from the spirit of my invention.
