IMPROVEMENT IN CQCKEYES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,097, dated December 11, 1877; application filed September 11, 1877.
Tocll whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL FRIEs; of Sac City, in the county of Sac and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Cockeyes, and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and
` exact description thereof, reference being had -to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to de scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l shows the female cockeye. Fig. 2 shows the male cockeye, and Fig. 3 shows the Atwo fastened together.
A represents the male cockeye, constructed in the usual form. B represents the female cockeye, constructed -in the same manner, eX-
'v cept that a slot o'r passage, b, is formed in the shank thereof, uniting the head or loop and the tongue of the cockeye, as shown in Fig. 1.
To unite the two parts, the tongue of the part A is passed through the head of the part B, when the part A is turned so that its shank will pass edgewise through the slot b into the tongue or outer end of the female cockeye B, when the two parts readily adjust themselves into the position shown in Fig. 3.
This device is' intended to be used as a tracecarrier, which will do away with the clumsy things as now ordinarily used on horses rumps for trace-carriers.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cockeye B, constructed as described, with a slot or passage, b, between the head or loop and the tongue, and adapted to receive an ordinary cockeye, A, for the purpose of forming a trace carrier, as herein set forth.
