Claims. '01. 206- 45) The present invention i 'relates :to display :cas'es and .more -.particular'ly to demountable sectional display cases adapted for exhibiting toilet articles, silverware and the like.
5 Display cases of this. type, as heretofore commonly constructedwere made in individual sizes, a different size for each set of toiletware or silverware containing a different number of pieces. Since these sets consist of from three to twenty pieces in toiletware and may possibly run up to several hundred pieces in the case of silverware, it has been necessary for producers of these items to carry large inventories of these display cases.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved display case for carrying articles to be displayed, the construction and arrangement of said display case being such as to obviate the necessity of carrying a large stock of display cases in stock.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a display case having a plurality'of pivotally mounted sections, certain of said sections being provided with means for opening and closing other sections of said display case.
Other objects of this invention, together with certain details of construction and combinations of parts, will be described in the specification and pointed out in the appended claims.
According to my present invention, I provide 30 a stock of tops, bottoms, intermediate sections of different depths and hinge pins and hasps of various length. From such a stock of parts, it is possible to assemble display cases of various sizes to exhibit toiletware sets consisting of from three to twenty or more pieces.
The accompanying drawings serve to illustrate a preferred embodiment of myv present invention, it being understood that it is given only by way of example and in no way limitative.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display case embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a similar view of the display case showing the same in open position;
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the display case on a somewhat enlarged scale;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary View taken on line 44 in Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the opened display case showing the trays or sections in open 50 position; and
Figure *6 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 6-6 in Figure 5.
Referring to the drawings, the display case is generally indicated by the reference numeral 10 and comprises a bottom tray 11 and a top, or
Secured to the rear of the bottom tray, as by screws 15, are hinges 16 and 1'7, each of which is provided with an aperture 18, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described. The sections are also provided with hinges 19, 20, 21 and 22 attached to said sections by screws 23. As is shown in Figure 3, the hinges 19 and 21 are in vertical alignment with hinge 16, and hinges 20 and 22 with hinge 17. The top or cover, 12 is provided with hinges 24 which are disposed at right angles tothe hinges on the bottom tray and the sections. A slot 25 is formed in each of the hinges 24.
To assemble the display case, there are provided hinge pins 26, of the required length having one end bent at right angles thereto. In assembling the. case, the right angled portionof the hinge pin is inserted in hinge 24 and then the vertical portion is threaded through the aligned hinges 16, 19 and 21 and 17, 20 and22. Locking pins 27 and 28 are inserted through apertures 18 and slots 25 into suitable openings in the extremv ities of the hinge pins. The locking pins 27 and 28 serve as retaining means for the hinge pins 26.
The locking pins 27 prevent the hinge pins from pulling out on lifting the top of the box and locking pins-28 cooperate with the slotted hinges 24 to form a cover stop, as is clearly shown in Figure 4.
Fixed to the bottom of each of the, sections, as by screws 29, are stops 30 and 31 which serve to prevent the sections from opening beyond a certain amount. The stops also act in such a manner that when the upper section, which in the present embodiment is indicated by the reference numeral 14, is swung on its pivot, the lower sectionvor sections follow in turn.
For the purpose of locking the case, there is provided a hasp 32 of suitable length which is attached at 33 to the bottom tray 11 and which passes over a staple 34, secured to the top 12, where it is fastened by any suitable means, as by a lock 35.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is: v
1. In a display case assembly, the combination with a l ottom tray having sides,front and back of equal height, and a top cover, of hinge pins extending from said bottom tray to said top cover, and a plurality of removable sections pivotally mounted upon said hinge pins between said top cover and said bottom tray.
2. .In a display case assembly, the combination with a bottom tray having sides, front and back of equal height, and'a top .cover, of a plurality of removable sections mounted between said top cover and said bottom tray, and angular hinge pins extending from said top cover to said bottom tray on which said sections are pivotally mounted, saidhinge pins retaining the assembly.
. ofequal height, and a top cover, of a plurality of inposition.
3. In a display case assembly, the combination with a bottom tray having sides, front and back of equal height, and a top cover, of a plurality of removable sections mounted between said bottom tray and said top cover, angular hinge pins extending from said top cover to said bottom tray upon which said sections are pivotally mounted, said hinge pins holding the assembly in position, and retaining means for said hinge pins.
4. In a display case assembly, the combination with a bottom tray having sides, front and back of equal height, a top cover, and removable intermediate trays, of hinge pins extending from said top cover to said bottom tray upon which said intermediate trays are pivotally mounted, said hinge pins holding the assembly in position, retaining means for said hinge pins, and means on said cover adapted to co-operate with said retaining means to limit the opening movements of' said cover.
5. In a display case assembly the combination with a bottom tray having sides, front and back removable sections mounted between said bottom tray and said top cover, and angular hinge pins, upon vertical portions on which said sections are pivotally mounted and upon horizontal portions of which the said top cover is pivotally mounted, the said angular hinge pins retaining 20 the assembly in position. 1
