Description

R. W. JONES CHILDS GARMENT April 1 1935.
Filed Nov. 21, 1935 Patented Apr. 16, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CI-IILDS GARMENT Application November 21, 1933, Serial No. 699,045
3 Claims.
My invention relates to a childs garment and I declare the following to be a full, clear, concise and exact description thereof sufficient to enable anyone skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a garmentused especially for childrens union suits or sleeping garments. The improvement relates particularly to the means for closing the seat by use of a replaceable elastic band. Sucha band can be renewed from time to time as it wears out or when washing the garment. This feature will provide a garment with a seat that is always held in place throughout the life of the same.
The object will be understood by referring to the drawing in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the back portion of the garment.
Fig. 2 is a detailed view showing a perspective of the replaceable elastic band.
Fig. 3 is a detailed view showing a perspective of a modified form of replaceable elastic band.
Fig. 4 is a front face view of the garment, parts being broken away.
Referring more particularly to the garment, a childs union suit made of knitted fabric, opened down the front, is shown at l. Buttons 2, button holes 3 are employed to close said front portion, except in the crotch which is permanently closed by crotch piece 4. Furthermore, one of the buttons 2 located at the waist line is held to the garment by tape 5. The garment also has a low neck portion 6, short sleeves 1, I, a trunk or pants portion 8 and buttons 9, held by tapes 5 attached to the garment about the waist.
The trunk portion 8 in front is: made by extending the garment downward the proper length. The rear portion I0 is formed by extending the garment from the neck well down into the seat to edge i i. Part of this portion is overlapped by the seat l2 which is sewed to the garment along the opposite sides from the waist down. Leg openings [5, 15 are formed in the lower part of the garment and 'a crotch piece 4 heretofore spoken of, closes the lower end of the garment. The upper edge l6 of piece l2 which forms the back or seat portion of the garment is made by turning over the edge forming a pocket or hem IT with its ends free as at I8, 18. An elastic or rubber band 28 is inserted in pocket I! and its ends fastened in a detachable manner, whereby to hold the upper edge of the seat portion l 2 in place. Said elastic band 20 is made replaceable by merely inserting in pocket or hem 11. Its
respective ends are removably attached by fasteners 26, 26 on said ends, each of the fasteners 26 consisting of a tape formed with a bar end and known in the trade as jiffy fastener can be slipped through loop 21 formed by a tape 28, securedto the body of the garment.
In place of jiffy fasteners 26, buttons 29 may be sewed to the opposite ends of elastic band 20. Said buttons 29 will engage the button holes formed in tape 28A attached to the body of the garment, as shown in Figure 3.
In using the garment, the seat can be lowered by disconnecting jiffy fasteners 26 from their respective loops 21, or in case buttons are used, by unbuttoning the elastic band 20.
It will be observed that the elastic or rubber band 20 can be easily detached from its pocket or hem H by turning one or the other jiffy fasteners 26 in parallel relation to the pocket or hem I! and then withdrawing said band by pulling it at the opposite end. In case buttons are used, they will be small enough to pass through pocket or hem i! when withdrawing the elastic band.
It will be observed that the elastic or rubber band 20 can be easily detached which will allow for replacement or when washing the garment, without in any way cutting, sewing or alterating the garment in any respect.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
1. In a childs garment, a let down part connected thereto, a pocket formed in the upper edge of said let down part, a removable elastic band projected through said pocket, fasteners attached to said band, said fasteners comprising bars, loops attached to said garment and said bars adapted to removably engage said loops, whereby to hold said let down part in closed position.
2. In a childs garment, a lower back portion, a pocket formed in the upper edge of said back portion, a removable elastic band projecting through said pocket, bar fasteners attached to the end of said band, loops attached to said garment and said bars adapted to removably engage said loops, whereby to hold said back portion in closed position.
3. In a child's garment, a back portion, a pocket having open ends formed in the upper edge of said back portion, an elastic band projecting through said pocket, bars attached to the ends of said band, tapes forming loops attached to said garment and said bars adapted to engage said loops, whereby to hold said back portion in closed position.
