  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring to the drawings of FIGS. 1 through 7, a compact disc organizing [0014] kit 10 has a compact disc case 11 having a top 12 hinged with hinge tabs 13 to a base 14. The compact disc case 11 top 12 also has protruding tabs 15 on either side thereof for sliding sheet-like members thereunder. The base 14 includes a raised edge portion 16 which allows the tabs 13 to be supported on either end thereof for hinging the top 12 and also includes a labeling edge 17 for identifying the contents of the disc case 11 which, as shown in FIG. 2, has indicia 18 identifying the kit as a CD sorting and labeling kit. The base 14 of the disc case 11 includes a disc supporting portion 20 having arcuate sides 21 and a disc supporting ring 22 in the middle thereof and is made for holding a standard compact disc or DVD or the like in the case 11. A compact disc replica 23 may be made of paperboard, plastic or any material desired and has the instructions 24 printed on the surface thereof. The disc replica 23 is disc shaped and has a center opening 25 which can be placed on the compact disc supporting ring 22 to removably support the instruction disc replica 23 within the compact disc case 11. The compact disc organizing kit also includes a labeling sheet 26 having a series of square or rectangular removable pieces 27 and a series of round removable identifying pieces 28. The pieces 27 and 28 are either a cling plastic or have an adhesive backing and are mounted on the sheet 30 and can be individually removed or replaced as desired. The members 27 or 28 can be made of any material desired but, in a preferred embodiment, a cling polymer sheet having the pieces 27 and 28 cut out lets the pieces attach to a case without an adhesive. The pieces 27 and 28 can also be made of a paper or any other material and can have an adhesive backing, such as a microencapsulated type adhesive which allows repeated use.
  • The [0015] round labeling members 28 can be seen in FIG. 4 as having indicia 31 thereon while the square or rectangular members 27 can be seen in FIGS. 5, 6 and 7 as each having indica 32 thereon, such as the double numbers 00 and a color background numeral. In FIG. 5 the color background number one is shown while in FIG. 6, a different color numeral 34 is shown and in FIG. 7, yet another color numeral 35 is shown. Thus, the labeling members shown in FIGS. 5-7 have both indicia as well as color coding.
  • The compact disc as used in the present system can be stored in a conventional compact [0016] disc storage rack 36 which holds a plurality of compact discs 37 on a plurality of shelves 38 and which also stores the present compact disc organizing kit 10 which for easy identification has the preprinted labeling 18 on the end 17 thereof. This makes the compact disc organizing kit easy to store, readily identifiable, and quickly removed to identify discs being placed in a CD player.
  • In operation, the CD [0017] sorting label kit 10 can be removed from the storage rack 36 and, as each compact disc 37 is removed from the rack 36 to place on a CD player, it can have a label from the sheet of labels 26 placed on the back of the now empty case identifying the position in the compact disc or DVD player, carousel or tray. That is, the disc placed in the first slot of a compact disc player will have a “1” removed from the sheet 26 and placed on the empty CD disc case, which is placed back in the rack. Thus, replacing the disc in the first slot in the CD player merely requires removing the compact disc, placing it back in the case labeled “1”, then removing the label “1” from the compact disc case, and placing it on the disc case of the compact disc being placed in the player slot 1. This also advantageously allows a person to look at the rack 36 and quickly identify which compact disc is in each slot by reading the back label on the disc case. The disc case label 7 and 8 can be made of a cling plastic which has been preprinted thereon and which clings to a plastic compact disc case without the need to use adhesive. Also in addition to the coated labels 27 and 28, blank labels can also be provided within the sheet 26 which can be written onto to clearly identify or make other notes on the discs or on the rack 36. Thus, the labels which are color coated and marked with indicia 27 can be used to identify an individual compact disc case from which a compact disc has been removed while the round labels 28 having the indicia thereon can be used to identify areas within the storage rack 36.
  • The process of the present invention includes the selecting of a set of cling polymer pieces, each piece having coated indicia thereon and the selecting of a compact disc replica and printing the instructions for organizing a plurality of compact discs on the selected compact disc replica. The process includes selecting a compact disc case having means for holding a compact disc thereon and labeled to indicate the contents thereof. The compact disc replica having the instructions printed thereon is removably attached to the mounting ring of the compact disc case and a sheet or set of cling polymer pieces are placed in the compact disc case to form a compact disc organizing kit. The method includes placing one of the cling polymer pieces from the set onto a plurality of disc cases identifying the slot that the compact disc from the case had been placed within the compact disc player so that a plurality of compact discs are organized with the disc organizing kit to allow for the rapid identification of which compact disc is in which slot within a compact disc player. [0018]
  • It should be clear at this time that a compact disc organizing kit and the method of organizing a compact disc has been provided which allows for the easy storage and use of the kit making for easy identification and organization of a plurality of discs. However, the present invention should not be construed as limited to the forms shown which are to be considered illustrative rather than restrictive. [0019]
