Abstract

The Easy Change is a baby diaper changing station that provides ease of use for the caretaker by using a unique restraining system to keep the baby still while providing easy access to the baby's diaper area allowing for easy changing and cleaning. The Easy Change uses a leg restraint system that both elevates and separates the baby's legs allowing the caretaker to easily reach through the legs to wipe and change the child. The leg restraint comprises a hard smooth contoured surface upon which the child's leg will be placed, along with a soft, padded Velcro type strap that will be used to fix the legs in place.

  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • This invention pertains to the functions involved in the task of changing a baby's diapers.
  • The problems which this invention addresses include the following issues which many caretakers encounter in changing a child's diaper:
      • 1. Active babies are difficult to restrain during changing
      • 2. When the child is restrained manually the caretaker's hands are no longer free to move easily for wipes, diapers and other items needed during changing.
      • 3. The child needs to be lifted in order to wipe the area of the child's buttocks which rests on the changing surface.
      • 4. Keeping the child entertained while being changed is a challenge.
      • 5. Certain portions of cleaning and changing the child require the legs to be separated.
  • This invention addresses all these difficulties making the entire process easier and faster.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The Easy Change makes the process of changing a baby's diaper an easier and faster process by securely, but comfortably, restraining the baby while elevating the buttocks and separating the legs. The Easy change uses a unique restraining and elevation system to accomplish the above.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING
  • The attached drawing represents the invention as a whole. The invention comprises a bed unit with attached leg restraints which elevate and separate the child's legs along with an attached Mobile to entertain the child. The area in the vicinity of the child's buttocks is slanted downward so as to have the child's rear elevated.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The Easy Change is a baby diaper changing station that provides ease of use for the caretaker by using a unique restraining system to keep the baby still while providing easy access to the baby's diaper area allowing for easy changing and cleaning. The Easy Change uses a leg restraint system that both elevates and separates the baby's legs allowing the caretaker to easily reach through the legs to wipe and change the child.
  • The Easy Change comprises a water impermeable soft mattress bed on which to place the child. The bed will taper off near the child's buttocks in such a way as to have the child's buttocks “hang” over the end of the unit. This allows the caretaker to easily wipe beneath the buttocks which would otherwise have been hard to reach.
  • The Easy Change includes two leg restraint units which are attached to the bed and elevated above the height of the bed. The restraints will be made of a smooth hard plastic like material and will be covered with soft padding, contoured to fit the shape of a child's leg and include soft padded Velcro restraints to increase the child's comfort level. The child's leg will rest on top of the restraint with the leg bent and the area of the back of the leg and calf resting against the contoured area. Each of the child's legs will be placed on one of the restraints and secured in place. The torso restraints will also be used to keep the child's torso in place. This will restrain the child, elevate the child's buttocks and hold the legs apart for easy changing. The leg restraints will be adjustable through some common type of adjustable system such as telescopically or through a slide and then fix type of mechanism in order to adjust as the child grows or for sizing for different children.
  • Attached to the head of the unit is an entertainment Mobile which the child can play with and be entertained while being changed.
