Abstract
A firearm accessory mounting apparatus comprises of a clamp body with multiple split sockets. Each said split socket has a cavity adapted for securing a firearm accessory and has a split that runs longitudinally along its body. Said split of the first split socket has a first arm at one side and a second arm at opposite side of the split. A firearm mounting frame may be secured to the firearm accessory mounting apparatus via the first arm and second arm of each split socket and adapted for securing the entire assembly to a weapon.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to a mounting apparatus that securely holds and accommodates multiple devices to a firearm.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- Firearms can be equipped with devices to add to a weapon's utility. Such devices are often calibrated tools used to assist in aiming the firearm (eg laser sight) or to improve target visibility (eg flashlight), among other applications. Devices secured to a firearm are exposed to the kinetic energy from the discharge of a weapon and, thus, need to withstand strong mechanical shock whilst maintaining a secure hold and calibration.
- In the prior art as shown in
FIG. 6 , a traditional mounting apparatus fixed to a weapon holds a single device, such as a laser sight. In order to simultaneously utilize multiple devices, the mounting system must be able to hold multiple devices. - The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a mounting apparatus to affix multiple devices onto a firearm that permits a user to add, remove, or exchange a device without disturbing the position and calibration of another device clamped into the mounting apparatus.
- According to the objective of the present invention, the mounting apparatus comprises of a clamp body with a cylindrical split socket for each device intended to be mounted onto a firearm. A split socket forms one portion of a clamp body and has one or multiple screw sockets that serve to secure the clamp body to a firearm mounting frame. Additionally, the diameter of each split socket is slightly wider than the diameter of the device intended to be clamped such that clamping via tightening of screws in the aforesaid screw sockets securely holds the clamped device in position. The sum composition of all split sockets forms the clamp body. This design allows for the removal, addition, or exchange of a device without dismounting the mounting apparatus itself from the firearm and does not alter the position and calibration of other mounted device(s).
- The invention can be more fully understood and appreciated from the following detailed description of the presently preferred but nonetheless illustrative embodiment of the present invention when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIG. 1 toFIG. 4 , a firearm accessory mounting apparatus of the preferred embodiment of the present invention comprising; - A
clamp body 10 has afirst split socket 20 and asecond split socket 30. Said first split socket has alongitudinal split 21 and acenter arm 22 at one side of the split and semi-rigidsecond arm 23 at the opposite side of the split. Said first split socket has acavity 24 with a diameter adapted for holding adevice 2 and has a split that runs longitudinally along the socket. Said center arm hasmultiple screw sockets 221 and said semi-rigid second arm hasscrew sockets 231 matching those from the center arm. There are three screw sockets on the center arm and two screw sockets on the semi-rigid second arm in this embodiment of present invention. - Said second split socket is similar to the first split socket and consists of a
longitudinal split 31, acenter arm 32 at one side of the split and a semi-rigidsecondary arm 33 at opposite side of the split. In this embodiment of present invention, said first split socket shares the center arm with the second split socket. The second split socket has ascrew socket 34 adapted for securing adevice 3 and the secondary arm of the second split socket has ascrew socket 331 that fastens to thescrew hole 221 of the center arm andfirearm mounting frame 4 byscrew 5. - Referring to
FIG. 4 andFIG. 5 , afirearm mounting frame 4 is secured to the mounting apparatus between thecenter arm 22 and thesecond arm 23 of thefirst split socket 20 and adapted for securing the entire mounting assembly to aweapon 1. In this embodiment of present invention, there are twoscrews 6 which complement thescrew socket holes 231 on thesecond arm 23 of the first split socket and the screw sockets 41 on thefirearm mounting frame 4 and fastens to therespective screw sockets 221 on thecenter arm 22. To affix adevice 3, a user can slide a device into the cavity of thesecond split socket 34 and fasten thescrew 5 toscrew sockets 331 on the secondary arm to thecorresponding screw sockets 221 on the center arm andscrew sockets 42** on the firearm mounting frame. Likewise, to secure adevice 2 to thefirst split socket 20, a user can slide a device into the cavity of thefirst split socket 331 and fasten thescrews 6 to corresponding screw sockets on the second arm of thefirst split socket 231, firearm mounting frame 41, andcenter arm 221. Removal of a device from the first or second split socket is conveniently accomplished byunfastening screws - It is to be understood that the drawings are designed for the purposes of illustration only and are not intended as a definition of the limits and scope of the invention disclosed. For example, the second split socket can be arranged at left side or right side of the first split socket and more than one split socket may be attached to the first split socket.

5. A firearm accessory mounting apparatus adapted to be engaged to a firearm mounting frame for mounting on a firearm, comprising:
a clamp body that has multiple split sockets formed as a unit, each of the split sockets having a cavity for holding a firearm accessory and a split that runs longitudinally along the body thereof;
each of the split sockets further having a first arm at one side of the split and a second arm at an opposite side of the split;
the first arm of a first of the split sockets having threaded screw sockets that correspond with both through-holes on the second arm of said first of the split sockets and through-holes on the firearm mounting frame so that bolts through the corresponding through-holes can be threaded into the corresponding screw sockets to secure a first firearm accessory in the cavity of said first of the split sockets and fix a projection of the firearm mounting frame between the first arm and the second arm of said first of the split sockets.

The firearm accessory mounting apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the first arm of a second of the split sockets has at least one threaded screw socket that corresponds to at least one through-hole on the second arm of said second of the split sockets so that a bolt through the through-hole can be threaded into the corresponding screw socket to secure a second firearm accessory in the cavity of said second of the split sockets.
7. The firearm accessory mounting apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the first arm of the first of the split sockets and the first arm of the second of the split sockets are a same arm.

The firearm accessory mounting apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein at least one of the threaded screw sockets on the first arm of said same arm correspond to the through-hole on said second arm of said second of the split sockets and remaining threaded screw sockets on said same arm correspond to the through-holes on the first of the split sockets.
9. The firearm accessory mounting apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the axes of said first and second of the split sockets are parallel to each other and to the axis of said firearm mounting frame when fixed to the clamp body.
10. The firearm accessory mounting apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the axis of the second of the split sockets is spaced below the axis of the first of the split sockets when said firearm mounting frame is fixed to the clamp body.
11. The firearm accessory mounting apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein a width of the split of the first of the split sockets is greater than that of second of the split sockets so as to accommodate the projection of said firearm mounting frame.
12. The firearm accessory mounting apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the depth of the split of the second of the split sockets is greater than that of the first of the split sockets.
13. The firearm accessory mounting apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein a cross-section transverse to the longitudinal length of the split of the second of the split sockets is bent.
