Description

    BACKGROUND
  • The invention relates to bases, and in particular, to separable bases.
  • To conveniently transport electronic devices such as liquid crystal displays, bases thereof are preferably separable. Separable bases also enable reduction of electronic devices package volume.
  • While the conventional separable base is easily separated, it is difficult to be tightly combined with other components due to tolerance. Thus, the stability of assembly of the electronic device may suffer. As a result, the assembled electronic devices may not pass specifications.
  • Separable bases are provided. An exemplary embodiment of a separable base comprises a body, a cover, and an elastic member. The body comprises a first hole and a first engaging portion. The cover is detachably assembled with the body, and comprises a second hole, a locating member, and a spacer member. The spacer member is assembled with the locating member in a manner such that a gap is formed between the spacer member and the locating member. The first engaging portion is engaged with the second hole. The locating member is engaged with the first hole via the spacer member. The elastic member is disposed between the body and the cover.
  • Furthermore, the body comprises a combining member and a connecting member. The first hole is formed on the combining member. The connecting member is combined with the combining member. The first engaging portion is formed on the connecting member. The combining member comprises a notch to engage one of a plurality of the locating members.
  • Additionally, the first engaging hole comprises a first portion and a second portion smaller than the first portion. The locating member enters the first hole via the first portion and is engaged with the second portion. The first hole may be calabash-shaped.
  • Moreover, the cover further comprises a base plate on which the locating member is riveted. The spacer member abuts the base plate to be away from the locating member by the gap. The locating member comprises a combination portion riveted on the base, and a second engaging portion engaging with the first hole. The spacer member comprises an upright portion and an abutment portion. The upright portion abuts the base plate and surrounds the combination portion of the locating member. The abutment portion abuts the body and is separated from the second engaging portion of the locating member by the gap.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • Separable bases can be more fully understood by reading the subsequent detailed description and examples with references made to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
  • FIG. 1 is an exploded view of an embodiment of a separable base;
  • FIG. 2 a is a partial cross section of the assembled separable base in FIG. 1;
  • FIG. 2 b is another partial cross section of the assembled separable base in FIG. 1;
  • FIG. 3 a is a schematic view of a base plate, locating members, spacer members, and elastic members in FIG. 1; and
  • FIG. 3 b is a partial cross section of the assembly of the base plate, the locating members, the spacer members, and the elastic members in FIG. 1.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • While an embodiment of a separable base 1 is described based on a liquid crystal display, it is not limited thereto, and may be applied to other devices. Referring to FIG. 1, an embodiment of the separable base 1 comprises a body 10, a cover 20, and an elastic member 30. The body 10 comprises a combining member 11, a connecting member 12, a front case 13, and a rear case 14.
  • The combining member 11 supports a liquid crystal panel (not shown) via a hinge (not labeled), and comprises two first holes 11 a and two notches 11 b at the bottom plate 11 c thereof. In FIG. 1, each first hole 11 a is calabash-shaped, and is divided into a first portion 11 a′ and a second portion 11 a″ smaller than the first portion 11 a′ by a dotted line in FIG. 1. Locating members 22 at the cover 20 enter the first holes 11 a via the first portions 11 a′, and are engaged with the second portions 11 a″. The connecting member 12, the front case 13, and the rear case 14 are combined with the combining member 11. Specifically, the connecting member 12 is combined with the combining member 11 by screws (not labeled). As shown in FIG. 2 b, the connecting member 12 comprises a first engaging portion 12 a that is a cantilever.
  • The cover 20 is detachably assembled with the body 10, and comprises a base plate 21, four locating members 22, and four spacer members 23, as shown in FIG. 3 a. The base plate 21 is made of iron, and comprises a second hole 21 a to be engaged with the first engaging portion 12 a of the connecting member 12 of the body 10. Since the first engaging portion 12 a is a cantilever, the body 10 and the base plate 21 can be stably combined by the elasticity of the first engaging portion 12 a.
  • Each locating member 22 is a copper column, and is engaged with the first hole 11 a or the notch 11 b of the combining member 11 of the body 10. Specifically, two of the locating members 22 at the right in FIG. 3 a are engaged with the first holes 11 a, and the remaining two locating members 22 at the left in FIG. 3 a are engaged with the notches 11 b. As shown in FIG. 2 a, each locating member 22 can be divided into a combination portion 22 a and a second engaging portion 22 b by a line A-A. The combination portion 22 a is riveted to the base plate 21. The second engaging portion 22 b is engaged with the first hole 11 a or the notch 11 b. Additionally, while the number of the locating members in this embodiment is four, it is not limited thereto, and may be adjusted based on requirements.
  • Each spacer member 23 is made of Nylon, and is assembled with the locating member 22 in a manner such that a gap G is formed between the spacer member 23 and the locating member 22. That is, each spacer member 23 is moveable. Additionally, as shown in FIG. 3 b, each spacer member 23 can be divided into an upright portion 23 a and an abutment portion 23 b by a line B-B. The upright portion 23 a abuts the base plate 21 at the bottom thereof, and surrounds the combination portion 22 a of the locating member 22. The abutment portion 23 b may abut the bottom plate 11 c of the combining member 11 of the body 10, and is separated from the second engaging portion 22 b of the locating member 22 by the gap G. Additionally, while the number of the spacer members in this embodiment is four, it is not limited thereto, and may be adjusted based on the locating members.
  • The elastic member 30 is disposed on the base plate 21 of the cover 20, and located between the body 10 and the cover 20 to abut the body 10. The elastic member 30 is made of compressible material, such as poron. Note that a surface of the spacer member 30 is smooth to not interfere with the sliding between the body 10 and the cover 20. Additionally, while an embodiment of the elastic member 30 comprises two strips, it is not limited thereto as long as the assembly of the body 10 and the cover 20 is not interfered with by the elastic member 30. Moreover, while an embodiment of the elastic member 30 is disposed on the base plate 21 of the cover 20, it is not limited thereto, and may be disposed on the body 10.
  • As previously described, the gap is formed between the locating member and the spacer member, and the elastic member is disposed on the base plate. When the cover is assembled with the body, its orientation in a vertical direction may be controlled by the elastic member and the gap, thus improving the stability of the base.
  • Additionally, while an embodiment of the separable base comprises the spacer member and the elastic member, it is not limited thereto, and may simply comprise one of the spacer member and the elastic member as long as the stability of the separable base can be maintained.
  • While the invention has been described by way of example and in terms of preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited thereto. To the contrary, it is intended to cover various modifications and similar arrangements (as would be apparent to those skilled in the art). Therefore, the scope of the appended claims should be accorded the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and similar arrangements.
