Abstract
In an antiskid container comprising a bottom wall and side walls, at least the bottom wall is provided on its bottom and its top sides with antiskid surface areas.
Description
- The invention resides in an antiskid container for containing objects, particularly in motor vehicles, where, as a result of acceleration and braking procedures and also cornering, acceleration forces act on the objects in various directions so that the objects and even the containers in which the objects are deposited slide around in an uncontrolled manner.
- This is an annoying and in motor vehicles often dangerous situation as a driver may reach for an object deposited, for example, on the dashboard to prevent it from sliding away just when a critical situation occurs, that is, during braking or strong acceleration or a steering maneuver, which is exactly when the driver would need both hands to control the vehicle.
- It is the object of the present invention to overcome this problem by a container which prevents the annoying uncontrolled shifting of objects particularly in motor vehicles.
- In an antiskid container comprising a bottom wall and side walls, at least the bottom wall is provided on its bottom and its top sides with antiskid surface areas.
- The antiskid surfaces of the bottom wall of the container causes the container to somehow stick to the support surface on which the container is disposed, and any objects disposed in the container, are relatively securely held in position by the antiskid surface of the container interior, but even if they would start rolling as it may happen for example in connection with keys or glasses deposited in the container, their movement would be limited by the side walls of the container.
- The antiskid surface on the bottom and top sides of the container bottom wall is formed by the application of a rib- or nap-like structure of a soft clinging material such as foamed plastic, foamed rubber or foamed latex. On the inside of the container, preferably, also the side walls are provided with such a soft clinging material so that an object leaning on a side wall is also prevented from sliding along the side wall.
- The container itself may be in the form of a bowl, a trough, or a box which, because of the antiskid layer on its bottom side, is firmly engaged with the support surface on which it is disposed to the extent that it will not slide away when subjected to side forces and will firmly contain any objects deposited therein.
- As already mentioned, such a container may be suitable for placement on a dashboard in a vehicle, or a countertop of a motor home for example, but the inventive concept may just as well be used for storage boxes used in a trunk of a vehicle or on the loading deck for example or a pickup truck for containing various small articles, which, in this way, remain in their intended positions and do not intermingle in the container during traveling.
- The invention will become more readily apparent from the following description of a particular embodiment thereof described below on the basis of the accompanying drawing.
- The sole FIGURE is a cross-sectional view of a container according to the invention.
- The container C has a
bottom wall 1 andupstanding side walls 2. The bottom wall is provided at the inside of the container C with anantiskid sheet 3 having a rib- or nap-like structure and consisting of a soft clinging material. Also, the bottom side ofbottom wall 1 of the container C is provided with anantiskid structure 4 of a soft clinging material, having a rib- or nap-like structure. The antiskid structure may be a sheet of foamed plastic, foamed rubber or foamed latex or foamed plastic material which is cemented to the underside and the top side of thebottom wall 1 of the container C. - Preferably, also the
inner side walls 2 are provided with such anantiskid structure 5. This is particularly advantageous if the container is relatively large, that is, in the form of a crate or a trough for the trunk of a car or the loading deck of a truck. - The antiskid structure may be in the form of sheets mounted onto the surfaces of the container for example by cementing or it may be applied directly to the container surfaces for example by spraying.
