Abstract

An abrasive sander includes a net member having a number of cords secured together for forming a number of eyelets between the cords, and a number of abrading particles applied onto the net member for engaging with a work piece and for abrading the work piece and for abrading cut chips from the work piece and for allowing the cut chips to be received and engaged in the eyelets of the net member. The abrading particles may be applied onto an outer portion or an inner portion of the net member. A base member may be attached to the net member for securing the net member to a sanding machine, and may include a number of openings for allowing the cut chips to flow through the base member.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates to an abrasive sander, and more particularly to an abrasive sander including a number of spaces or compartments formed therein for receiving the dust or cut chips and for facilitating the sanding or grinding or abrading operation and for increasing the working life for the abrasive sander.
  • 2. Description of the Prior Art
  • Typical abrasive sanders or members comprise an endless sand belt for engaging around the rollers or pulleys of a sanding or grinding or abrading machine and for sanding or grinding or abrading work pieces.
  • For example, U.S. Pat. No. 3,538,650 to Pollak discloses one of the typical belt sanding or grinding or polishing machines comprising an endless sand belt for engaging around the rollers or pulleys, and a sanding disc for working or sanding or grinding the work pieces.
  • Normally, the sand belt includes a planar base belt member having a number of sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles attached or secured onto the belt member.
  • However, after the sanding or grinding or abrading operations, the dust or cut chips may not be received among or between the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles, or there are no spaces formed or provided among or between the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles for receiving the dust or cut chips such that the work pieces may not be effectively sanded or ground or abraded by the sand belt.
  • U.S. Pat. No. 3,375,617 to Kaufman et al. discloses another typical sanding device or disk sander comprising a sanding disk having a forepart for engaging with and for sanding or grinding or abrading work pieces.
  • However, similarly, the sand belt also includes a number of sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles attached or secured onto a planar base belt member for engaging with and for sanding or grinding or abrading work pieces, and the dust or cut chips may not be received among or between the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles, or there are no spaces formed or provided among or between the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles for receiving the dust or cut chips after the sanding or grinding or abrading operations, such that the work pieces may not be effectively sanded or ground or abraded by the sand belt.
  • U.S. Pat. No. 5,476,409 to Wada et al. discloses a further typical grinding machine comprising a belt sander attached or secured to a base for engaging with and for sanding or grinding or abrading work pieces.
  • However, similarly, the belt sander also includes no spaces formed or provided among or between the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles for receiving the dust or cut chips, or the dust or cut chips may not be received among or between the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles after the sanding or grinding or abrading operations, such that the work pieces may not be effectively sanded or ground or abraded by the sand belt.
  • The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages of the conventional abrasive belts for sanding or grinding or abrading machines.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The primary objective of the present invention is to provide an abrasive sander including a number of spaces or compartments formed therein for receiving the dust or cut chips and for facilitating the sanding or grinding or abrading operation and for increasing the working life for the abrasive sander.
  • The other objective of the present invention is to provide an abrasive sander including a number of sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles attached to both sides of the net member and may be changed with each other for allowing the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles at both sides of the net member to be changeably engaged with the work piece and for increasing the working life for the abrasive sander.
  • In accordance with one aspect of the invention, there is provided an abrasive sander comprising a net member including a number of cords secured together for forming a number of eyelets between the cords, a number of abrading particles applied onto the net member for engaging with a work piece and for abrading the work piece and for abrading cut chips from the work piece and for allowing the cut chips to be received and engaged in the eyelets of the net member, and a base member attached to the net member.
  • The abrading particles are applied onto an outer portion of the net member, and/or the net member may include an inner portion having a number of abrading particles applied onto the inner portion of the net member.
  • The net member includes a number of longitudinal cords and a number of lateral cords woven together for forming the eyelets between the cords, or secured together as a non-woven structure for forming the eyelets between the cords.
  • The base member includes a number of openings formed therein for allowing the cut chips to flow through the openings of the base member.
  • The base member includes a fastening device for attaching the base member and the net member to a sanding machine. For example, the fastening device may be a hook and loop fastening device or the like.
  • Further objectives and advantages of said present invention will become apparent from a careful reading of said detailed description provided hereinbelow, with appropriate reference to said accompanying drawings.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SAID DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a partial cross sectional view of an abrasive sander in accordance with said present invention for attaching or engaging around the rollers or pulleys of a sanding or grinding or abrading machine and for sanding or grinding or abrading work pieces, illustrating the operation of the abrasive sander;
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the layers of the abrasive sander;
  • FIG. 3 is another perspective view of the abrasive sander illustrating the attachment of another base member to the abrasive sander;
  • FIG. 4 is another partial cross sectional view illustrating the operation of the abrasive sander as shown in FIG. 3;
  • FIG. 5 is a further perspective view of the abrasive sander having the other base member; and
  • FIG. 6 is an enlarged partial perspective view of the abrasive sander.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring to the drawings, and initially to FIGS. 1 and 2, an abrasive sander 10 in accordance with the present invention comprises a planar base layer or member 11 having a number of openings 12 formed therein for allowing dust or cut chips to flow through the openings 12 of the base member 11, and a net layer or member 20 attached to or engaged onto the base member 11 for forming a sander belt, a sander cloth, an endless sander belt, or the like and for engaging or securing onto a sanding or grinding or abrading machine 30, such as securing onto a sanding disk 31 of the sanding machine 30 and for sanding or grinding or abrading work pieces 80.
  • As shown in FIGS. 1-2 and 6, the net member 20 includes a number of longitudinal fibers or fibers or cords 21 and a number of lateral fibers or fibers or cords 22 woven together or secured or welded together as a non-woven structure for forming a number of spaces or compartments or eyelets 23 among or between the cords 21, 22 and for receiving the dust or cut chips 88 (FIG. 1) that will be generated or ground or abraded from the work pieces 80 by the abrasive sander 10.
  • The abrasive sander 10 further include a number of sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles 24, such as carborundum, attached or secured onto the upper or outer portion of the net member 20, and/or a number of sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles 25, such as carborundum, attached or secured onto the lower or inner portion of the net member 20 and engaged with the base member 11 (FIG. 1). The particles 24, 25 may be attached or secured onto the net member 20 by such as the blowing, sand blasting or applying or ejecting processes.
  • As shown in FIGS. 1 and 3, the base member 11 includes an engaging or fastening device 13, such as a hook and loop fastening device 13 attached to the bottom or outer portion thereof for engaging with the corresponding fastening device 32, such as the hook and loop fastening device 32 of the sanding disk 31 of the sanding machine 30 and for detachably attaching or securing the base member 11 and the net member 20 to the sanding disk 31 of the sanding machine 30. The sanding machine 30 may include a number of orifices 33 formed therein and aligned with the openings 12 of the base member 11 for allowing the dust or cut chips 88 to flow through the openings 12 of the base member 11 (FIG. 1).
  • In operation, as shown in FIG. 1, the carborundum or the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles 24 may be provided for engaging with and for sanding or grinding or abrading the work pieces 80 and for grinding or abrading the dust or cut chips 88 from the work pieces 80 and for allowing the dust or cut chips 88 to be received or engaged in the eyelets 23 of the net member 20, and/or for allowing the dust or cut chips 88 to flow through the openings 12 of the base member 11, and for preventing the dust or cut chips 88 from interfering or affecting the sanding or grinding or abrading operation of the abrasive sander 10.
  • It is to be noted that the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles 24 applied or attached onto the upper or outer portion of the net member 20 may be worn out after use, and the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles 25 applied or attached onto the lower or inner portion of the net member 20 may be changeably turned outside for engaging with and for sanding or grinding or abrading the work pieces 80, for example, another base member 110 (FIGS. 3, 4, 5) may be attached or secured onto the upper or outer portion of the net member 20 and also includes a fastening device 13 for engaging with the corresponding fastening device 32 of the sanding disk 31 of the sanding machine 30 and for allowing the sanding or grinding or abrading sands or particles 25 to be exposed to work with the work pieces 80, such that the working life for the abrasive sander 10 may be greatly increased or doubled.
  • Accordingly, the abrasive sander in accordance with the present invention includes a number of spaces or compartments formed therein for receiving the dust or cut chips and for facilitating the sanding or grinding or abrading operation and for increasing the working life for the abrasive sander.
  • Although this invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood that the present disclosure has been made by way of example only and that numerous changes in the detailed construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

Claims (8)

1. An abrasive sander comprising:
a net member including a number of cords secured together for forming a number of eyelets between said cords,
a number of abrading particles applied onto said net member for engaging with a work piece and for abrading the work piece and for abrading cut chips from the work piece and for allowing the cut chips to be received and engaged in said eyelets of said net member, and
a base member attached to said net member.
2. The abrasive sander as claimed in claim 1, wherein said abrading particles are applied onto an outer portion of said net member.
3. The abrasive sander as claimed in claim 1, wherein said net member includes an inner portion having a number of abrading particles applied onto the inner portion of said net member.
4. The abrasive sander as claimed in claim 1, wherein said net member includes a number of longitudinal cords and a number of lateral cords woven together for forming said eyelets between said cords.
5. The abrasive sander as claimed in claim 1, wherein said net member includes a number of longitudinal cords and a number of lateral cords secured together as a non-woven structure for forming said eyelets between said cords.
6. The abrasive sander as claimed in claim 1, wherein said base member includes a number of openings formed therein for allowing the cut chips to flow through said openings of said base member.
7. The abrasive sander as claimed in claim 1, wherein said base member includes a fastening device for attaching said base member and said net member to a sanding machine.
8. The abrasive sander as claimed in claim 7, wherein said fastening device is a hook and loop fastening device.
