Abstract

An apparatus and method of game play comprising three dice. Each of the three dice may be distinctly colored and further include distinct indicia thereon. Preferably, a first die may be six-sided, green in color, and bears a sequential even number (e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12) on each if its respective six faces. A second die may be six-sided, yellow in color, and bear a sequential number (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) on each if its respective six faces. A third die may be six-sided, red in color, and bear a sequential odd number (e.g. 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11) on each if its respective six faces. Such three dice may be incorporated into short play dice games, long play dice games, casino table games, board games, and the like.

  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention generally relates to games of chance, more specifically, the present invention relates to dice games wherein a player wagers upon the outcome of a roll of three dice.
  • 2. Background Art
  • Dice games are well known in the art. Two of the most well known dice games are Craps and Sic Bo. In Craps, players place multiple roll wagers on the sum of the dice, single roll wagers on the sum of the dice, and multiple roll wagers on the combination of numbers shown on the face of the dice. For example, a pass line wager is paid when a natural, i.e. a seven or eleven, is rolled on the initial, or come out, roll or a point number, i.e. four, five, six, eight, nine, or ten, is rolled on the come out roll and then repeated before rolling a seven. The pass line wager is collected if a craps, i.e. two, three, or twelve, is rolled on the come out roll or a point number is rolled and a seven is rolled before the point number is repeated.
  • Conversely, a don't pass line wager is paid when a craps is rolled on the come out roll or a point number is rolled and a seven is rolled before the point number is repeated. The don't pass line wager is collected if a natural is rolled on the come out roll or a point number is rolled and then repeated before rolling a seven. A wager related to the pass line wager and the don't pass line wager is the free odds wager. Should a shooter roll a point number on the come out roll, any player with a pass line wager may place an additional free odds wager which will be paid at actual odds if the point number is rolled before a seven. For example, if the point number is six, a player with a free odds wager will be paid at 6:5 if the shooter rolls a six before rolling a seven. Likewise, any player with a don't pass line wager may place an additional wager which will be paid at actual odds if a seven is rolled before the point number. Thus, if the point number is six, a player with a free odds wager will be paid at 5:6 if the shooter rolls a seven before rolling a six.
  • A come wager and a don't come wager are treated similarly to the pass wager and don't pass wager, respectively, with the roll immediately following the placing of the wager treated as the come out roll for the come and don't come wagers.
  • Other possible wagers include place, or box, wagers in which a player wagers that a selected number will be rolled before a seven is rolled. The player may also choose to bet the converse, that is, that a seven will be rolled before a selected number is rolled. Yet another wager is the hardway wager in which a player wagers that the next roll of a selected sum will include double numbers. For example, the ten hardway wager is paid if the next ten rolled includes two fives and collected if the next ten rolled includes a four and a six. A hardway wager is also collected if a seven is rolled before a winning roll is rolled. Finally, a player may wager on a group of single roll sums. These single roll wagers include the field wager on the numbers two, three, five, nine, ten, eleven, and twelve and wagers on various other sums and dice combinations such as any craps, any sevens, two aces, two sixes, and the like.
  • Sic Bo is a single roll dice game in which players may wager on the sum of the dice. For example, the player may wager on the sum of fifteen without regard to the combination of dice required to form a fifteen, i.e. the wager would win if the dice show 5-5-5, 4-5-6, or 3-6-6. Alternatively or additionally, the player may wager on the combination of dice, for example, wagering on the combination of 5-5-5. Three dice are rolled and all wagers are immediately resolved; that is, there are no multiple roll wagers in Sic Bo.
  • The drawback of these games is that there is no opportunity to receive a large bonus. Moreover, there is no wager in Craps or Sic Bo on a subgroup of sums wherein each group is mutually exclusive and each group has substantially the same probability of winning.
  • Thus, there is a need in the art for a dice game which may include a jackpot payout and wagers on a single roll of the dice or on multiple rolls of the dice wherein the wagers are paid or collected based on the sum of the dice and the combination of numbers showing on the dice.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • One embodiment of the invention is a set of three dice and a gaming table. Each die has six sides. The first die has one form of sequential even indicia disposed on each of the respective six faces of the first die. The second die has one form of sequential indicia disposed on each of the respective faces of the second die. The third die has one form of sequential odd indicia disposed on each of the respective six faces of the third die. The gaming table is imprinted with the numbers four (4) through twenty-nine (29). Additionally, each of the die may be a different color and the table may be imprinted with additional betting areas of corresponding colors so that side bets may be placed.
  • Another embodiment of the invention is a method for playing a dice game with three dice, each of which is different from the others. The players wager on the total value of the roll of the dice. The wager may be based on the combined value of the skyward faces of the three dice. The payout may be determined based on the statistical probability of rolling any given total value.   • A final embodiment of the invention is a method for playing a dice game with three dice. All dice being six sided. The first die being numbered sequentially with only even numbers from two (2) to twelve (12). The second die being numbered sequentially from one (1) to six (6). And the third die being numbered sequentially with only odd numbers from one (1) to eleven (11). The players wager on the total value of the roll of the dice. The wager may be based on the combined value of the skyward faces of the three dice. The payout may be determined based on the statistical probability of rolling any given total value. The payout may be doubled if a particular dice combination is rolled, such as 12-4-1. Side bets may be placed which will result in a double or triple total payout if the side bet is won. One such side bet that may be placed is wagering which of the three dice will roll the highest number. Another such side bet is wagering that a seven (7) or eleven (11) will be rolled and that the die numbered from one (1) to six (6) will display the highest value.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is preferably directed toward a table game and more particularly toward a game of chance employing dice which is intended to be played in gambling casinos, but which is also practical as a game of entertainment and excitement during travel, on a beach, on a picnic, or at home in the living room.
  • With the ever-expanding number of gambling casinos in the United States and the obvious insatiable gambling urges of the patrons therein, the need for a simplistic game of chance to appease and please all levels of expertise in the art of gambling has become very apparent.
  • The scope of the present invention comprises multiple variations of games of chance involving the roll of three dice. As depicted in FIG. 1, each die may comprise the conventional and well known six-sided square configuration. In a preferred embodiment, a first die 110 may be green in color and have one form of sequential even indicia (e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12) disposed on each of the respective six faces of the first die 110. A second die 120 may be yellow in color and have one form of sequential indicia (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) disposed on each of the respective six faces of the second die 120. A third die 130 may be red in color and have one form of sequential odd indicia (e.g. 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11) disposed on each of the respective six faces of the third die 130. Rolling the three dice 110, 120, 130 will result in each die displaying a skyward face. The indicia on these skyward faces may be added to generate cumulative dice combinations having totals ranging from four (4) to twenty-nine (29).
  • The distinctive color and indicia marking of each of the three dice 110, 120, 130 described above are merely exemplary in nature, wherein additional colors and forms of indicia may be utilized within the scope of the present invention. Each die need only have a color or form of indicia that is distinct from those of each of the other two dice. Alternate combinations of die color and form of indicia are wholly within the scope of the present invention.
  • Using the above described dice, many possible variations of games of chance may be played. Such gaming options may include but are not limited to short play embodiments providing quicker results and/or payouts from single dice rolls and long play embodiments that may provide extended betting opportunities and compounding wagers and/or jackpots based upon multiple dice rolls.
  • A preferred gaming embodiment of the present invention may be played on a game surface 200. The game surface 200 may be a casino-style table; a piece of fabric, such as, for example, felt; a board, such as, for example, the kind of board commonly utilized in board games; and the like. A preferred game surface 200 may be a casino-style table. The casino-style table game variation may incorporate any conventional game surface structures known within the art including but not limited to a table with a felted playing surface such as that commonly used in other dice games including craps. Betting areas 210 may be designated upon the game surface 200. The betting areas 210 may be designated by permanent indicators on the game surface 200, by indicators placed on the game surface 200, or by indicators attached to the game surface 200. Such betting areas 210 may have background colors 220 which are the same colors as the dice 110, 120, 130. The background color 220 of each betting area 210 may be different than the background color 220 of any other betting area 210. Additionally, the betting areas 210 may be any different combination of background colors 220. The betting areas 210 may be labeled with the possible three dice 110, 120, 130 combination totals, ranging from four (4) through twenty-nine (29). Many equivalent arrangements that include this range of numbers are possible, and one embodiment may comprise betting areas 210 labeled with the numbers four (4) through sixteen (16) disposed on a first side of the game surface 200 and betting areas 210 labeled with the numbers seventeen (17) through twenty-nine (29) disposed on a second side of the game surface 200. Thus, the game surface 200 may comprise a representation of all possible dice combination totals, four (4) being the lowest possible total and twenty-nine (29) being the highest possible total. Many equivalent color combinations are possible, and one embodiment may comprise betting areas 210 with a green background color 220 labeled with the numbers four (4), five (5), six (6), seven (7), twenty-six (26), twenty-seven (27), twenty-eight (28), and twenty-nine (29); betting areas 210 with a yellow background color 220 labeled with the numbers eight (8), nine (9), ten (10), eleven (11), twelve (12), thirteen (13), twenty-two (22), twenty-three (23), twenty-four (24), and twenty-five (25); and betting areas 210 with a red background color 220 labeled with the numbers—fourteen (14), fifteen (15), sixteen (16), seventeen (17), eighteen (18), nineteen (19), twenty (20), and twenty-one (21). The payoff amount may be the same for all possible three dice 110, 120, 130 combination totals designated on betting areas 210 of the same background color 220.
  • A player may roll the three dice 110, 120, 130. The roll may comprise the player throwing all three dice 110, 120, 130 in combination; throwing each of the three dice 110, 120, 130 separately; or rolling any two of the three dice 110, 120, 130 in combination and rolling one of the three dice 110, 120, 130 separately. As a result of the player's roll, each of the three dice 110, 120, 130 will display a skyward face 140. The numbers displayed on the skyward faces 140 of the three dice 110, 120, 130 may be added to give a three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total. The three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total is the cumulative total of the indicia displayed on the skyward faces 140 of the three dice 110, 120, 130.
  • In use, for example, the skyward faces 140 of the three dice 110, 120, 130 may display the following numbers; twelve (12) from the skyward face 140 of first die 110, four (4) from the skyward face 140 of second die 120, and one (1) from the skyward face 140 of third die 130. The three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total would be seventeen (17) for that particular roll. In such a scenario, the player who had placed chips on the betting area 210 labeled seventeen (17) may win a specified payoff, while additional payoff criteria may also be further utilized on the same three dice 110, 120, 130 roll. Several three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 totals have more than one possible combination of three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 numbers that may result in the same three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total. For example, a three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total of four (4) can only be achieved when the skyward face 140 of first die 110 displays a two (2), the skyward face 140 of second die 120 displays a one (1), and the skyward face 140 of third die 130 displays a one (1); a three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total of twenty-nine (29) can only be achieved when the skyward face 140 of first die 110 displays a twelve (12), the skyward face 140 of second die 120 displays a six (6), and the skyward face 140 of third die 130 displays an eleven (11); however, a three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total of twenty-two (22) can be achieved by several different combinations, including when the skyward face 140 of first die 110 displays a twelve (12), the skyward face 140 of second die 120 displays a five (5), and the skyward face 140 of third die 130 displays a (five); when the skyward face 140 of first die 110 displays a ten (10), the skyward face 140 of second die 120 displays a one (1), and the skyward face 140 of third die 130 displays an eleven (11); when the skyward face 140 of first die 110 displays a twelve (12), the skyward face 140 of second die 120 displays a three (3), and the skyward face 140 of third die 130 displays a seven (7); when the skyward face 140 of first die 110 displays a twelve (12), the skyward face 140 of second die 120 displays a one (1), and the skyward face 140 of third die 130 displays a nine (9); or when the skyward face 140 of first die 110 displays a ten (10), the skyward face 140 of second die 120 displays a five (5), and the skyward face 140 of third die 130 displays a seven (7).
  • The odds and payoff amounts may be determined by the home user or respective gambling establishments. This embodiment would be suitable for a variety of venues including but not limited to cruise ships and gambling establishments, such as those found in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
  • In one embodiment of a dice game within the scope of the present invention, players may place a bet on the number they believe will be the three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total produced from the subsequent dice roll. If a roll results in the skyward face 140 of first die 110 displaying a twelve (12), the skyward face 140 of second die 120 displaying a four (4), and the skyward face 140 of third die 130 displaying a one (1), every player may win double their bet placed. The House may then automatically pay every winning player.
  • Numerous side bets are also possible. In one possible embodiment, a player may use a ten ($10) dollar playing chip to place a doubling side bet which may allow that player to win a double payout of the total payout if their selected three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total is rolled. To allow placing of doubling side bets, three additional betting areas 210 may be disposed on game surface 200 and comprise a side bet area 240. The background color 220 of each of the betting areas 210 in the side bet area 240 may be coordinated to match the three distinct colors of the three dice 110, 120, 130 (e.g. green, yellow, and red) being used. The bet criteria may further comprise that after the player rolls the three dice 110, 120, 130, the die displaying the largest number on its skyward face 140 is the same color as the background color 220 chosen by the player in the side bet area 240 and the background color 220 chosen by the player in the side bet area 240 corresponds to the color of the first die 110 or the third die 130. As one example, a player may wager a fifty ($50) dollar chip on the three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total to be twenty-four (24) and the player may also place an additional ten ($10) dollar side bet chip on the betting area 210 in the side bet area 240 that has a green background color 220. If the three dice 110, 120, 130 are rolled and the resulting three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total is twenty-four (24) and the highest number displayed is displayed on the skyward face 140 of the green first die 110, the player may be paid double the payout winnings. If the highest number displayed on a skyward face 140 is displayed on the red third die 130, but the three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total is twenty-four (24), the player's side bet is lost but the player wins the normal payout amount for their correct three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total bet.
  • In another possible embodiment, a player may use a ten ($10) dollar playing chip to place a tripling side bet which may allow that player to win a triple payout of the total payout if their selected three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total of either a seven (7) or an eleven (11) is rolled. To allow placing of tripling side bets, additional betting areas 210 may be disposed on game surface 200 and comprise a side bet area 240. The background color 220 of each of the betting areas 210 in the side bet area 240 may be coordinated to match the three distinct colors of the three dice 110, 120, 130 (e.g. green, yellow, and red) being used. The bet criteria may further comprise that after the player rolls the three dice 110, 120, 130, the die displaying the largest number on its skyward face 140 is the same color as the background color 220 chosen by the player in the side bet area 240 and the background color 220 chosen by the player in the side bet area 240 is the same color as the second die 120. As one example, a player may wager a fifty ($50) dollar chip on the three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total to be seven (7) and the player may also place an additional ten ($10) dollar side bet chip on the betting area 210 in the side bet area 240 that has a yellow background color 220. If the three dice 110, 120, 130 are rolled and the resulting three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total is seven (7) and the highest number displayed is displayed on the skyward face 140 of the yellow second die 110, the player may be paid triple the payout winnings. If the highest number displayed on a skyward face 140 is displayed on the red third die 130, but the three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total is seven (7), the player's side bet is lost but the player wins the normal payout amount for their correct three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total bet.
  • Short play games using the disclosed three dice 110, 120, 130 of the present invention are also within the scope of this inventive disclosure. One possible embodiment of such a short game is “Hi-Lo”. A player may roll the three dice 110, 120, 130, and the middle value die is then picked up and re-rolled. If the resulting re-roll is a die value that is again between the highest value die and the lowest value die, two (2) points may be given to the player. If the resulting re-roll is a die value equal to either the highest value die or the lowest value die, one (1) point is subtracted from that player's accumulated point total. If the resulting re-roll is a die value either lower than the lowest value die or higher than the highest value die, no points are added or subtracted from the accumulated point total. The first player to accumulate twenty-one (21) points may be declared the winner. Also, if the initial roll of the three dice 110, 120, 130 produces doubles, the player loses their turn and hands the three dice 110, 120, 130 to next player. Other game play variants may include but are not limited to “7, 11, 21”, “100 Rummy” or “200 Rummy”, “Bingo”, and “Craps” styles of game play.
  • Board game styles of play using the disclosed three dice 110, 120, 130 of the present invention are also within the scope of this inventive disclosure. A board game may be utilized having three distinctly colored squares encompassing the edge and continuing on the inside next to the outer squares. The distinctly colored squares match the three distinct colors of the three dice 110, 120, 130 (e.g. green, yellow, and red) being used. The ultimate goal of the board game may be for a player to reach a finish line or final location that may be disposed in the middle of game board. Game cards (e.g. specialized playing cards) may also be incorporated in the game board rules and style of play. If a player lands on a designated game card pick up square, the player must then follow the instructions given on that particular game card. The theme of the game and the method of moving about the game board may be driven by the rolling of the three dice 110, 120, 130 and following the instructions on a game card when appropriate. The addition and subtraction of numbers would be the motivation of the game and the means by which a player may reach the finish line or final location. Some moves of a representative player game board piece may be in a forward direction (i.e. toward the finish line) and some moves may be in a backwards direction (i.e. away from the finish line), depending on the instructions on the game card picked up by a player for landing on a designated game card square. As an example, a game card may instruct the rolling player to hand the game card to an opponent and thereafter instructs them to move back three, four, or more spaces on the game board. Such a board game may be targeted towards the juvenile generation and assist children in developing their mathematical skills in both addition and subtraction as a means of keeping the game pace moving.
  • The methods and gaming experiences within the scope of the present invention may include but are not limited to the disclosed three dice 110, 120, 130, game surface 200, game boards, game cards, electronic versions of three dice 110, 120, 130 game (e.g. handheld gaming devices), and specialized pre-printed three dice 110, 120, 130 score pads are all part of the scope of the present invention.
  • The possible three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 totals from rolling the three dice 110, 120, 130 are quite varied and examples are depicted in the table below. Possible combinations for resulting in a particular three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total may range from one (1) possibility to thirteen (13) possibilities depending on the three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 total to be achieved. Preferably, three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 totals having fewer combination possibilities (i.e. lower probability) may produce higher payouts for a player when successfully achieved. Likewise, three dice 110, 120, 130 skyward face 140 totals having higher probabilities may provide for lower payouts when successfully achieved. Odds and payouts may be determined and freely manipulated as desired by the user, which may include gaming establishments.

  • Accordingly the reader will see that, from the disclosure herein, the present invention provides for a multitude of gaming methods and game play styles incorporating three dice 110, 120, 130 as the novel and focal feature common to all of the game variants described herein and all equivalents thereof
  • Many of the described elements, such as the wager amounts and respective payoff amounts are freely modifiable by the users and not meant to be limited in any capacity by the specific detailed embodiments or examples disclosed above. Likewise, the selected distinctive colors and indicia for each of the respective three dice 110, 120, 130 and their corresponding board game or game surface 200 regions may be freely modified as well.
  • While the above description contains much specificity, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of any embodiment, but as exemplifications of the presently preferred embodiments thereof. Many other ramifications and variations are possible within the teachings of the various embodiments.
  • Thus the scope of the invention should be determined by the broadest interpretation of the above disclosure and its legal equivalents, and not by the specific examples given.

Claims (20)

1. A dice game apparatus comprising:
a. a first die, said first die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential even indicia disposed thereon;
b. a second die, said second die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential indicia disposed thereon; and
c. a third die, said third die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential odd indicia disposed thereon.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a game surface having a plurality of betting areas.
3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said sequential even indicia of said first die comprise the numbers two, four, six, eight, ten, and twelve; wherein said sequential indicia of said second die comprise the numbers one, two, three, four, five, and six; and wherein said sequential odd indicia of said third die comprise the numbers one, three, five, seven, nine, and eleven.
4. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said first die further comprises a first color, said second die further comprises a second color, and said third die further comprises a third color.
5. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said plurality of betting areas comprises twenty-six betting areas respectively designated with the numbers four through twenty-nine.
6. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said first color is green.
7. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said second color is yellow.
8. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said third color is red.
9. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said plurality of betting areas comprises a first betting area having a first background color, a second betting area having a second background color, and a third betting area having a third background color said first background color being said first color, said second background color being said second color, and said third background color being said third color.
10. A dice game apparatus comprising:
a. a first die, said first die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential even indicia disposed thereon wherein said sequential even indicia comprise the numbers two, four, six, eight, ten, and twelve;
b. a second die, said second die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential indicia disposed thereon wherein said sequential indicia of said second die comprise the numbers one, two, three, four, five, and six; and
c. a third die, said third die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential odd indicia disposed thereon wherein said sequential odd indicia of said third die comprise the numbers one, three, five, seven, nine, and eleven.
11. The apparatus of claim 10, further comprising a game surface having a plurality of betting areas.
12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein said first die further comprises a first color, said second die further comprises a second color, and said third die further comprises a third color.
13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein said plurality of betting areas comprises twenty-six betting areas respectively designated with the numbers four through twenty-nine.
14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein said first color is green, wherein said second color is yellow, and wherein said third color is red.
15. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein said plurality of betting areas comprises a first betting area having a first background color, a second betting area having a second background color, and a third betting area having a third background color, said first background color being said first color, said second background color being said second color, and said third background color being said third color.
16. A method of playing a dice game, said method comprising the steps of:
a. wagering on an outcome of a roll of a first die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential even indicia disposed thereon; a second die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential indicia disposed thereon; and a third die having six faces wherein each of said six faces respectively comprises one form of sequential odd indicia disposed thereon;
b. rolling said first die, rolling said second die, and rolling said third die;
c. observing said sequential even indicia disposed upon skyward face of said first die; observing said sequential indicia disposed upon skyward face of said second die; observing said sequential odd indicia disposed upon skyward face of said third die; and
d. providing a payout based on said outcome.
17. The method of claim 16, wherein said wagering further comprises providing a first prediction of the cumulative total of indicia of said skyward face of said first die, said skyward face of said second die, and said skyward face of said third die.
18. The method of claim 16, wherein said payout is doubled when said sequential even indicia of skyward face of said first die is twelve, said sequential indicia of said skyward face of said second die is four, and said sequential odd indicia of skyward face of said third die is one.
19. The method of claim 17, wherein said wagering further comprises providing a second prediction of which of said sequential even indicia disposed upon said skyward face of said first die, said sequential indicia disposed upon said skyward face of said second die, or said sequential odd indicia of said skyward face of said third die is greatest and wherein said payout is increased when said first prediction and said second prediction are correct.
20. The method of claim 19 wherein said payout is tripled when said first prediction is a seven or eleven and said second prediction is that said sequential indicia disposed upon said skyward face of said second die is greatest.
