Abstract
The method is for forming a trim molding around a window or door opening defined by a lintel and opposite jambs. L-shaped corner trim pieces and vertical casings and at least one horizontal casing are provided. Each corner trim piece has a vertical leg and a horizontal leg. The vertical and horizontal legs of the trim pieces have a first width and a first thickness. The vertical and horizontal casings have a second width and second thickness. The L-shaped corner trim pieces are located on the jambs and the lintel at the right and left upper corners of the opening. The inner edges of the vertical and horizontal legs are each parallel to an inner edge of the jambs and the lintel. Outer abutment ends of the vertical and horizontal casings are placed in direct abutment contact with the vertical and horizontal legs of the trim pieces.

The vertical leg has a verticalouter edge 114 and a verticalinner edge 116. - The
horizontal leg 120 has a horizontalouter edge 122 and a horizontalinner edge 124. Thevertical leg 112 and thehorizontal leg 120 have a first width (W1) and a first thickness (T1). Thevertical casings horizontal casing 190 have a second width (W2) and second thickness (T2). The first width (W1) is wider than the second width (W2). The first thickness (T1) is thicker than the second thickness (T2). Thevertical casings horizontal casing 190, and thecorner trim pieces FIG. 7 . Preferably, the verticalinner edge 116 of thevertical leg 112 is placed about ⅛ inch outside the inner edge of thejambs - An outer abutment end of the
vertical casing 192 is placed in direct abutment contact with anouter end 118 of thevertical leg 112. Thevertical casing 192 may be shifted away from the verticalinner edge 116 and thevertical casing 192 is centered relative to thevertical leg 112. Similarly, the horizontalinner edge 124 of thehorizontal leg 120 may be placed about ⅛ inch or any other suitable distance away from the inner edge of thelintel 195. Preferably, an outer abutment end of thehorizontal casing 190 is placed in direct abutment contact with anouter end 126 of thehorizontal leg 120. Thehorizontal casing 190 may be shifted away from the horizontalinner edge 124. Thehorizontal casing 190 may then be centered relative to thehorizontal leg 120. - In another aspect of the present invention the
corner trim pieces first profile 205 and thevertical casing 192 and thehorizontal casing 190 are provided with asecond profile FIGS. 6-7 . Thevertical casing 193 is preferably provided with a profile that is identical to thesecond profile 207 of thevertical casing 192. Preferably, thefirst profile 205 is substantially aligned with thesecond profiles - While the present invention has been described in accordance with preferred compositions and embodiments, it is to be understood that certain substitutions and alterations may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the following claims.
