Abstract
Description
- 1. Technical Field
- The disclosure generally relates to housings, and particularly relates to housings used in portable electronic devices.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- With the development of wireless communication and information processing technology, portable electronic devices, such as mobile telephones and electronic notebooks are now in widespread use. External appearance of the housing of the portable electronic device can be one of the key factors attracting consumers.
- A typical way to achieve an attractive external appearance is to adher a decorative element (e.g., metal element) to the housing. However, typical decorative element can easily separate from the housing as the adhering force is usually not large enough.
- Therefore, there is room for improvement within the art.
- Many aspects of the exemplary housing for portable electronic device can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. These drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the exemplary housing and portable electronic device. Moreover, in the drawings like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views. Wherever possible, the same reference numbers are used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or like elements of an embodiment.
-
FIG. 1 is a schematic and exploded view of a portable electronic device with a housing according to an exemplary embodiment. -
FIG. 2 is a cut-away and assembled view of the housing shown inFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 3 is a partially enlarged view of the housing shown inFIG. 2 . -
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the housing shown inFIG. 2 along the line of IV-IV. -
FIG. 5 is an assembled view of the portable electronic device shown inFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the portable electronic device shown inFIG. 5 along the line of VI-VI. - For illustrative purposes, the device is an electronic device such as a radiotelephone. The radiotelephone described herein is a representation of the type of wireless communication device that may benefit from the present disclosure. However, it is to be understood that the present disclosure may be applied to any type of hand-held or portable device including, but not limited to, the following devices: cordless phones, paging devices, personal digital assistants, portable computers, pen-based or keyboard-based handheld devices, remote control units, portable media players that have wireless communication capability and the like. Accordingly, any reference herein to the radiotelephone should also be considered to apply equally to other portable wireless electronic devices.
- An exemplary embodiment of an
electronic device 200 incorporating ahousing 100 is shown inFIG. 1 . Theelectronic device 200 further includes amain body 300 that latches with thehousing 100. For clarification, only a portion of theelectronic device 200 is shown inFIG. 1 . Thehousing 100 includes afirst section 10 and asecond section 20, which are stacked together by aglue 30. In this exemplary embodiment, thefirst section 10 is made of plastic material, and thesecond section 20 is made of metallic material. - The
first section 10 includes anouter surface 12, an oppositeinner surface 14 and adistal surface 16 connecting theouter surface 12 to theinner surface 14. Thefirst section 10 has two opposite resistingblocks 162 protruding from thedistal surface 16 and located near theinner surface 14. Each resistingblock 162 has alatching slot 164 recessed from a side thereof facing theouter surface 12. Thelatching slots 164 are used for latching with thesecond section 20. Referring toFIG. 3 , thefirst section 10 further has twoflanges 122 spaced apart and protruding from theouter surface 12, thereby defining a receivingslot 124 between theflanges 122 for accommodating theglue 30 therein. - The
second section 20 has substantially the same shape and size as thefirst section 10. Thesecond section 20 has anouter wall 22 and an oppositeinner wall 24. Thesecond section 20 has twocatches 26 protruding from theinner wall 24. Each catch corresponds to one of thelatching slots 164. Therefore, each catch 26 latches with one of thelatching slots 164, respectively. - The
main body 300 includes aplanar wall 320 and asidewall 340 protruding from theplanar wall 320. Themain body 300 has twotroughs 322 defined therein for accommodating the resistingblocks 162. Thesidewall 340 is used for pushing the resistingblocks 162 toward thesecond section 20 so thelatching slots 164 latch with thecatches 26. - Referring to
FIGS. 2-3 , in assembly, theglue 30 is attached on theinner wall 24 of thesecond section 20. Thesecond section 20 is stacked on thefirst section 10 by the adhesive force of theglue 30, and theglue 30 is accommodated in thereceiving slot 124 of thefirst section 10. Referring toFIG. 4 , thecatches 26 are not latched with thelatching slots 164 and there is a gap between thecatches 26 and the latching slots 164when thesecond section 20 stacks on thefirst section 10 via theglue 30 to yield thehousing 100. Referring toFIGS. 5 and 6 , the resistingblocks 162 are then aligned with thetroughs 322. Thehousing 100 is pushed toward themain body 300. At this stage, the resistingblocks 162 are received in thetroughs 322, and thesidewall 340 of themain body 300 pushes the resistingblocks 162 toward thecatches 26 until thelatching slots 164 latch with thecatches 26. Thus, thesecond section 20 can be firmly stacked on thefirst section 10 as the catches 26 latch with thelatching slots 164. - It is to be understood, however, that even through numerous characteristics and advantages of the exemplary invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the invention, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
