Description
- This application claims priority to French Application Ser. No. FR 1101178, filed Apr. 14, 2011, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by this reference.
- The present invention provides a protective duvet cover.
- As is known, duvet covers are used to keep duvets clean. Moreover, through their external appearance, they are used to modify the aesthetic appearance of the bedding. Finally, they can be made of a quality of cotton that makes it possible to obtain a feeling of comfort for the user.
- Such protective covers usually have a parallelepipedal shape and form a case delimiting internally a volume in which the duvet is housed.
- Putting the duvet into the cover can be a fairly difficult operation to carry out since it involves making the corners of the duvet correspond with those of the cover and laying the duvet flat while taking care to keep the duvet in position.
- It often happens that, in use, the duvet tends to slide in the cover so that the corners of the duvet no longer correspond to the corners of the cover. In this case, the bedding becomes unattractive and less comfortable in use. To remedy this drawback, it has been proposed to furnish the duvet cover and the duvet with additional holding means, made for example in the form of press studs or hooks and eyes, making it possible to position the duvet correctly in the cover.
- In this respect, it is possible to refer to documents EP-A-0 857 445 and WO 03/065853 which describe various arrangements of such holding means.
- The duvet covers described in these documents however have major drawbacks, notably relating to the fact that they involve a modification of the duvets and that they cannot be used with conventional duvets.
- The object of the invention is therefore to remedy this drawback and to propose a protective duvet cover comprising a first face designed to cover a first face of the duvet, a second face designed to cover a second face of the duvet, a first closed lateral edge that connects the first and second faces and that forms a bottom, and a second opposite open edge for the duvet to pass through.
- This duvet cover also comprises, according to a general feature, at least one clip provided in the bottom zone of the cover and capable of holding the duvet in the cover.
- By using a clip in the bottom zone of the cover an effective hold of the duvet in its cover is obtained. Moreover, it is possible to hold any type of conventional duvet.
- According to another feature of the invention, the holding means are provided on two mutually opposite corners of the bottom of the duvet.
- The holding means may also be provided in the mid-portion of the bottom edge of the cover.
- The cover may also comprise clips capable of holding the duvet in the cover in the vicinity of the opposite open edge.
- For example, the clip is connected to the duvet by a stitched ribbon.
- For example, the ribbon is stitched with a stitching for assembling the first and second faces.
- Other objects, features and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the following description given only as a non-limiting example, and made with reference to the appended drawings in which:
-
FIG. 1 is a schematic view of a duvet cover according to the invention; and -
FIG. 2 is a detailed view of a clip provided in the bottom zone of the cover. -
FIG. 1 shows a duvet cover according to the invention indicated by thegeneral reference number 1. As is seen in this figure, thiscover 1 forms a casing designed to cover the duvet in its entirety. It is made from two generally rectangular pieces of cloth and therefore comprises afirst face 2 designed to cover a first face of the duvet and to form an upper face of the cover, and a second face (not visible inFIG. 1 ) designed to cover an opposite face of the duvet and to form the lower face of the duvet designed to be spread against a mattress. - As can be seen, each face comprises two
longitudinal edges lateral edges - For example, the two faces of the cover are stitched together by the two
longitudinal edges other edge 6, which in this instance forms a flap designed to be tucked under the mattress, being open in order to allow the duvet to be inserted into the cover. - Specifically, in use, the duvet is inserted through the
open edge 6 and is placed in thecover 1 so that its corners coincide with the corners of the cover and such that the duvet can be flattened in the cover in this position. - For the purpose of holding the duvet in position in the cover, the latter is furnished, in its bottom zone formed by the closed
lateral edge 5, with several clips, that can be seen in dashed lines inFIG. 1 , which are engaged with the duvet. - For example, the duvet may be furnished with two clips provided at the two mutually opposite corners of the bottom of the cover, that is to say in the zone of junction between the bottom
lateral edge 5 and thelongitudinal edges bottom edge 5 in addition to the clips furnished at the corners, or as a replacement for the latter. Naturally, it would also be possible, in addition, to furnish additional clips at each corner of thelateral edge 6, or even in a zone of the cover situated in the vicinity of this edge and offset relative to the flap, in order to improve the hold of the duvet in the cover. - With reference to
FIG. 2 , such clips consist, for example, of clips of the “crocodile” type and comprise two articulated jaws acted upon, for example, in the open state by a spring and able to be held in the closed state by a tongue L that can be moved between two stable positions, one of them constituting a release position of the jaws and the other a closed position of the jaws engaged with the duvet C. - The clips P are connected to the
duvet cover 1 by a strip of cloth B, preferably stitched with the stitching of thelateral edge 5 and/or of thelongitudinal edges - By virtue of this arrangement, the clips can be used to effectively hold the duvet in position in the duvet cover without the risk that the duvet might slide in its cover.
