Abstract
Description
- The present application claims the benefit of and priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 62,191,247, filed Jul. 10, 2015 and titled COSMETIC DROPPER WITH CLEAN DESIGN, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference.
- The present application relates to the field of apparatuses for dispensing cosmetic products.
- There are numerous designs for containing and dispensing cosmetic products. Some such products include a reservoir and an expelling apparatus such as a push button or the like to dispense product from the reservoir through an outlet. New and alternative approaches to such devices are desired.
- An illustrative example includes a body for containing cosmetic product, a squeezable element sealed to the first end of the body, a collar secured to the second end of the body opposite the first end of the body, and a cap designed to snap fit with the collar.
- In another example, the squeezable element extends beyond the first end of the body in a relaxed state.
- In another example, the cap has a flat end configured to hold the dispenser in an upright position while resting on the cap.
- In another example, the body comprises a window.
- In a further example, the window is clear, allowing a user to view a level of product within the body.
- In another example, the squeezable element includes a curved upper surface that extends above the first end of the body when the squeezable element is in the relaxed state.
- In a further example, the squeezable element includes a pair of opposed curved lower sidewalls that mate with a U-shaped cutout in the first end of the body.
- In another example, the squeezable element is permanently sealed to the first end of the body and does not allow air to enter the body through or around the squeezable element when the squeezable element is depressed and released.
- In another example, the body is non-refillable with the squeezable element and the collar permanently sealed to the body.
- In another illustrative example, a dispenser for a cosmetic product comprises a body for containing cosmetic product, the body including a window, a squeezable element sealed to a first end of the body, wherein the squeezable element extends beyond the first end of the body in a relaxed state, a collar sealed to a second end of the body opposite the first end of the body, and a cap designed to snap fit with the collar, the cap having a flat end configured to hold the dispenser in an upright position while resting on the cap.
- In a further example, the window is clear, allowing a user to view a level of product within the body.
- In another example, the squeezable element includes a curved upper surface that extends above the first end of the body when the squeezable element is in the relaxed state.
- In another example, the squeezable element includes a pair of opposed curved lower sidewalls that mate with a U-shaped cutout in the first end of the body.
- In another example, the squeezable element is permanently sealed to the first end of the body and does not allow air to enter the body through or around the squeezable element when the squeezable element is depressed and released.
- In another example, the body is non-refillable with the squeezable element and the collar permanently sealed to the body.
- In a further illustrative example, a dispenser for a cosmetic product comprises a body for containing cosmetic product, a squeezable element sealed to a first end of the body, wherein the squeezable element includes a curved upper surface that extends beyond the first end of the body in a relaxed state, and a pair of opposed curved lower sidewalls that mate with a U-shaped cutout in the first end of the body, a collar sealed to a second end of the body opposite the first end of the body, and a cap designed to snap fit with the collar.
- In another example, the cap has a flat end configured to hold the dispenser in an upright position while resting on the cap.
- In another example, the body comprises a window.
- In a further example, the window is clear, allowing a user to view a level of product within the body.
- In another example, the squeezable element is permanently sealed to the first end of the body and does not allow air to enter the body through or around the squeezable element when the squeezable element is depressed and released.
- In another example, the body is non-refillable with the squeezable element and the collar permanently sealed to the body.

FIG. 1 shows an illustrative dropper with the cap on. Thedropper 10 includes asqueezable element 12 attached and sealed onto afirst end 15 of abody 14 having awindow 16. Thewindow 16 may be a clear acrylic, for example, allowing the user to view the level of product. Alternatively, thewindow 16 may be coated/painted as desired. Acollar 18 is attached and sealed onto the second end 19 of thebody 14. The collar allows a snap fit to acap 20. Thebody 14 may be adapted for containing a cosmetic product by, for example, using a non-reactive metal or polymer material, and or providing one or more coatings therein. -
FIG. 2 shows an illustrative dropper with the cap off. Thecap 20 is removed to illustrate additional details of thecollar 18. In particular, thereceiver 22 for thesnap fit cap 20 is shown, as is theoutlet 24, which may be a narrowed opening or nozzle, for example. The product contained by thedropper 10 may be dispensed in controlled amounts by depressing thesqueezable element 12 as shown atarrow 26. The cap may have aflat end 21 configured to hold the dropper in an upright position while resting on the cap, as shown inFIG. 1 . Theflat end 21 on thecap 20 allows the dropper to be stored with the product collecting near theoutlet 24. This provides the advantage of easily dispensing the product and allowing more of the total product to be dispensed, compared to conventional containers which are designed to sit on their bottom, with the outlet facing upwards. - In an example, the
squeezable element 12 is formed of a silicone material sealed to thebody 14. Other flexible materials may be used. Thesqueezable element 12 may be configured and permanently sealed to thebody 14 in a manner so as to prevent air from entering thebody 14 through or around thesqueezable element 12 as the squeezable element is depressed to dispense product, and allowed to return to a relaxed state. Thebody 14 is generally a non-refillable container with thesqueezable element 12 andcollar 18 permanently sealed to thebody 14. However, in some examples, thebody 14 may be refilled if thecollar 18 is removable. Acollar 18 with a snap fit onto thebody 14 may allow thebody 14 to be re-filled with product. - The
window 16 may be clear acrylic, or other material. Thebody 14 is shown inFIG. 3 as including aslot 28 for receiving thewindow 16. Thecollar 18 may be formed of any suitable material, and may be polymeric or metal. In one example, a vacuum metalized silver is used for thecollar 18. -
FIG. 3 is an exploded view of an illustrative dropper. As can be seen thesqueezable element 12 is provided with a curvedupper surface 11, which may extend beyond thefirst end 15 of thebody 14 in the relaxed state, as shown inFIG. 2 . In an alternative example, thesqueezable element 12 may be flush with the first end of the body. In addition, thesqueezable element 12 may have two opposed curvedlower sidewalls 13 that match and mate withU-shaped cutouts 17 on opposite sides of thebody 14, to allow for depressing thesqueezable element 12. The dropper is used by depressing thesqueezable element 12, which dispenses product through theoutlet 24. When thesqueezable element 12 is released, it returns to the relaxed state, shown inFIGS. 1 and 2 , drawing air into thebody 14 through theoutlet 24. After use, thecap 20 is secured to thecollar 18 and the dropper rests on thecap 20, allowing the product to collect at the bottom of thebody 14 near theoutlet 24. - In another example, the
squeezable element 12 may movable through thebody 14. Thesqueezable element 12 may provide a seal against the inner wall of thebody 14 as thesqueezable element 12 moves down thebody 14 from thefirst end 15 towards the second end 19. In this example, the product is dispensed as thesqueezable element 12 is pushed towards the second end 19 of thebody 14, with no air being introduced into thebody 14. - The
collar 18 is shown in still greater detail as including a receiving/sealing portion for insertion into the second end 19 of thebody 14. An adhesive or snap fit may be used to secure and seal thecollar 18 relative to thebody 14. As noted above, thecollar 18 also includes areceiver 22 for receiving thecap 20 in a snap fit relationship and anoutlet 24 allowing product to be dispensed when thesqueezable element 12 is depressed. Thecap 20 andcollar 18 may be sized and configured such that when thecap 20 is snapped onto thecollar 18, theoutlet 24 is in contact with an inside end surface of thecap 20. As shown inFIG. 3 , thecap 20 may include aninner member 30 which is fixed within thecap 20. Theinner member 30 may have an inner surface that matches the curved contour of theoutlet 24 so that when thecap 20 is snapped onto the collar, theoutlet 24 is sealed. The inner surface of theinner member 30 may include a flexible membrane that covers theoutlet 24 to provide an air-tight seal. The configuration of thecap 20 andoutlet 24 prevents product from being dispensed unintentionally. - Each of these non-limiting examples can stand on its own, or can be combined in various permutations or combinations with one or more of the other examples.
