Abstract
A protective cover for an electronic device includes a housing, a connecting portion, and a ring. The connecting portion extends from a back portion of the housing and an angle is formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing. The ring is positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion and allows the insertion of a user's finger for a more secure hold of the electronic device.
Description
- This application claims priority to Chinese Patent Application No. 201520649340.7 filed on Aug. 26, 2015, the contents of which are incorporated by reference herein.
- The subject matter herein generally relates to protective covers.
- Expensive high-end electronic devices such as mobile phones should be protected with protective covers.
- Many aspects of the disclosure can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the disclosure. Moreover, in the drawings, like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

FIG. 1 is an isometric view of an embodiment of a protective cover. -
FIG. 2 is an isometric view of the protective cover ofFIG. 1 in use. -
FIG. 3 is an isometric view of the protective cover ofFIG. 1 with a ring contained in a groove of the protective cover. -
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the protective cover along a line IV-IV ofFIG. 1 . - It will be appreciated that for simplicity and clarity of illustration, where appropriate, reference numerals have been repeated among the different figures to indicate corresponding or analogous elements. In addition, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the embodiments described herein. However, it will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that the embodiments described herein can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, methods, procedures, and components have not been described in detail so as not to obscure the related relevant feature being described. The drawings are not necessarily to scale and the proportions of certain parts may be exaggerated to better illustrate details and features. The description is not to be considered as limiting the scope of the embodiments described herein.
- The term “comprising” means “including, but not necessarily limited to”; it specifically indicates open-ended inclusion or membership in a so-described combination, group, series and the like.
- Embodiments of the present disclosure will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

FIG. 1 illustrates an embodiment of aprotective cover 100. As illustrated inFIG. 1 , theprotective cover 100 includes ahousing 10, a connectingportion 20, and aring 30. - The
housing 10 includes aback portion 101 and a resistingportion 102. The resistingportion 102 is extended from the edge of theback portion 101 and a receiving cavity is formed between theback portion 101 and the resistingportion 102. Thehousing 10 is made to receive and protect an electronic device. One or more throughholes 1021 are defined on the resistingportion 102 or theback portion 101 for exposing one or more elements of the electronic device, such as a charging interface, an earphone interface, a camera, a loudspeaker, and the like. - The connecting
portion 20 is extended from theback portion 101 in a direction which is away from theback portion 101. An angle α (seeFIG. 4 ) is formed between the connectingportion 20 and theback portion 101, and the angle α is more than 0° and less than 180 degrees. In at least one embodiment, the angle α is 90 degrees. - The
ring 30 is positioned at an end portion of the connectingportion 20. Thering 30 is configured for allowing insertion of a user's finger when the electronic device is handheld, which can prevent the electronic device received in the protective cover being dropped, as shown inFIG. 2 . Thering 30 is ring-shaped, and may be circular, oval, square, or any irregular shape allowing for insertion of finger. In at least one embodiment, thering 30 is circular. - A
groove 103 is defined on theback portion 101. Thegroove 103 matches the connectingportion 20 and thering 30, for receiving the connectingportion 20 and thering 30. As illustrated inFIG. 3 andFIG. 4 , thering 30 and the connectingportion 20 can be received in thegroove 103 under a pressing force towards theback portion 101. - In detail, the
groove 103 includes afirst groove 1031 and asecond groove 1032. Thefirst groove 1031 matches the connectingportion 20 for receiving the connectingportion 20. Thesecond groove 1032 is a groove matching the outlines of thering 30, for receiving thering 30. Thesecond groove 1032 forms an interference fit with thering 30. Thering 30 can be deformed to be received in thesecond groove 1032 under the pressing force. In reverse, thering 30 can be deformed to be pulled out of thesecond groove 1032 under a pulling force. - A
recess 104 is defined on theback portion 101 near the edge of thegroove 103. When the connectingportion 20 and thering 30 are received in thegroove 103, therecess 104 is configured to enable the user to pull the connectingportion 20 or thering 30 out of thegroove 103. In at least one embodiment, therecess 104 is defined near an inside edge of thesecond groove 1032. In other embodiments, therecess 104 can be defined near an outside edge of thesecond groove 1032. - The connecting
portion 20 is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber. In at least one embodiment, thehousing 10, the connectingportion 20, and thering 30 are integral, the connectingportion 20 and thering 30 are formed by injecting from theback portion 101 of thehousing 10. In some embodiments, thehousing 10 and the connectingportion 20 are integral, thering 30 being fixed to the connectingportion 20. In other embodiments, only the connectingportion 20 and thering 30 are integral, the connectingportion 20 being rotatably connected to theback portion 101 of thehousing 10. - The number of the connecting
portions 20 andrings 30 can be based on demand, and if more than one, the connectingportions 20 andrings 30 are defined on multiple positions of theback portion 101 for insertion of different fingers. - The
ring 30 allows insertion of user's finger, thus the electronic device received in theprotective cover 100 can be held more firmly and securely. When the electronic device is not being used, thering 30 can be pressed into thegroove 103 on theback portion 101. - It is believed that the present embodiments and their advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the examples hereinbefore described merely being exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure.
Claims (14)
1. A protective cover comprising:
a housing;
a connecting portion extended from a back portion of the housing, an angle being formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing; and
a ring positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion.
2. The protective cover according to claim 1 , wherein a groove is defined on the back portion of the housing, the groove matches the connecting portion and the ring for receiving the connecting portion and the ring.
3. The protective cover according to claim 2 , wherein the ring and the connecting portion can be received in the groove under a pressing force towards the back portion of the housing.
4. The protective cover according to claim 2 , wherein the groove comprises a first groove and a second groove, the first groove matches the connecting portion for receiving the connecting portion, and the second groove matches the ring for receiving the ring.
5. The protective cover according to claim 4 , wherein the second groove forms an interference fit with the ring, and the ring can be deformed to be received in the second groove under a pressing force towards the back portion of the housing.
6. The protective cover according to claim 2 , wherein a recess is defined on the back portion of the housing near the edge of the groove.
7. The protective cover according to claim 1 , wherein the connecting portion is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber.
8. The protective cover according to claim 1 , wherein the connecting portion and the housing are integral.
9. The protective cover according to claim 1 , wherein the connecting portion and the ring are integral.
10. The protective cover according to claim 1 , wherein the angle formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing is 90 degrees.
11. A method for making a protective cover, the protective cover comprising a housing, a connecting portion extended from a back portion of the housing, an angle being formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing, and a ring positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion; wherein the connecting portion is formed by injecting from the back portion of the housing.
12. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the connecting portion is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber.
13. A method for making a protective cover, the protective cover comprising a housing, a connecting portion extended from a back portion of the housing, an angle being formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing, and a ring positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion; wherein the connecting portion and the ring are formed by injecting from the back portion of the housing.
14. The method according to claim 13 , wherein the connecting portion is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber.
