Abstract

A protective cover for an electronic device includes a housing, a connecting portion, and a ring. The connecting portion extends from a back portion of the housing and an angle is formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing. The ring is positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion and allows the insertion of a user's finger for a more secure hold of the electronic device.

  • This application claims priority to Chinese Patent Application No. 201520649340.7 filed on Aug. 26, 2015, the contents of which are incorporated by reference herein.
  • FIELD
  • The subject matter herein generally relates to protective covers.
  • BACKGROUND
  • Expensive high-end electronic devices such as mobile phones should be protected with protective covers.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the disclosure.   • FIG. 1 is an isometric view of an embodiment of a protective cover.
  • FIG. 2 is an isometric view of the protective cover of FIG. 1 in use.
  • FIG. 3 is an isometric view of the protective cover of FIG. 1 with a ring contained in a groove of the protective cover.
  • FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the protective cover along a line IV-IV of FIG. 1.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • It will be appreciated that for simplicity and clarity of illustration, where appropriate, reference numerals have been repeated among the different figures to indicate corresponding or analogous elements. In addition, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the embodiments described herein. However, it will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that the embodiments described herein can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, methods, procedures, and components have not been described in detail so as not to obscure the related relevant feature being described. The drawings are not necessarily to scale and the proportions of certain parts may be exaggerated to better illustrate details and features. The description is not to be considered as limiting the scope of the embodiments described herein.
  • The term “comprising” means “including, but not necessarily limited to”; it specifically indicates open-ended inclusion or membership in a so-described combination, group, series and the like.
  • Embodiments of the present disclosure will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
  • FIG. 1 illustrates an embodiment of a protective cover 100. As illustrated in FIG. 1, the protective cover 100 includes a housing 10, a connecting portion 20, and a ring 30.
  • The housing 10 includes a back portion 101 and a resisting portion 102. The resisting portion 102 is extended from the edge of the back portion 101 and a receiving cavity is formed between the back portion 101 and the resisting portion 102. The housing 10 is made to receive and protect an electronic device. One or more through holes 1021 are defined on the resisting portion 102 or the back portion 101 for exposing one or more elements of the electronic device, such as a charging interface, an earphone interface, a camera, a loudspeaker, and the like.
  • The connecting portion 20 is extended from the back portion 101 in a direction which is away from the back portion 101. An angle α (see FIG. 4) is formed between the connecting portion 20 and the back portion 101, and the angle α is more than 0° and less than 180 degrees. In at least one embodiment, the angle α is 90 degrees.
  • The ring 30 is positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion 20. The ring 30 is configured for allowing insertion of a user's finger when the electronic device is handheld, which can prevent the electronic device received in the protective cover being dropped, as shown in FIG. 2. The ring 30 is ring-shaped, and may be circular, oval, square, or any irregular shape allowing for insertion of finger. In at least one embodiment, the ring 30 is circular.
  • A groove 103 is defined on the back portion 101. The groove 103 matches the connecting portion 20 and the ring 30, for receiving the connecting portion 20 and the ring 30. As illustrated in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, the ring 30 and the connecting portion 20 can be received in the groove 103 under a pressing force towards the back portion 101.
  • In detail, the groove 103 includes a first groove 1031 and a second groove 1032. The first groove 1031 matches the connecting portion 20 for receiving the connecting portion 20. The second groove 1032 is a groove matching the outlines of the ring 30, for receiving the ring 30. The second groove 1032 forms an interference fit with the ring 30. The ring 30 can be deformed to be received in the second groove 1032 under the pressing force. In reverse, the ring 30 can be deformed to be pulled out of the second groove 1032 under a pulling force.
  • A recess 104 is defined on the back portion 101 near the edge of the groove 103. When the connecting portion 20 and the ring 30 are received in the groove 103, the recess 104 is configured to enable the user to pull the connecting portion 20 or the ring 30 out of the groove 103. In at least one embodiment, the recess 104 is defined near an inside edge of the second groove 1032. In other embodiments, the recess 104 can be defined near an outside edge of the second groove 1032.
  • The connecting portion 20 is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber. In at least one embodiment, the housing 10, the connecting portion 20, and the ring 30 are integral, the connecting portion 20 and the ring 30 are formed by injecting from the back portion 101 of the housing 10. In some embodiments, the housing 10 and the connecting portion 20 are integral, the ring 30 being fixed to the connecting portion 20. In other embodiments, only the connecting portion 20 and the ring 30 are integral, the connecting portion 20 being rotatably connected to the back portion 101 of the housing 10.
  • The number of the connecting portions 20 and rings 30 can be based on demand, and if more than one, the connecting portions 20 and rings 30 are defined on multiple positions of the back portion 101 for insertion of different fingers.
  • The ring 30 allows insertion of user's finger, thus the electronic device received in the protective cover 100 can be held more firmly and securely. When the electronic device is not being used, the ring 30 can be pressed into the groove 103 on the back portion 101.
  • It is believed that the present embodiments and their advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the examples hereinbefore described merely being exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure.

Claims (14)

What is claimed is:
1. A protective cover comprising:
a housing;
a connecting portion extended from a back portion of the housing, an angle being formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing; and
a ring positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion.
2. The protective cover according to claim 1, wherein a groove is defined on the back portion of the housing, the groove matches the connecting portion and the ring for receiving the connecting portion and the ring.
3. The protective cover according to claim 2, wherein the ring and the connecting portion can be received in the groove under a pressing force towards the back portion of the housing.
4. The protective cover according to claim 2, wherein the groove comprises a first groove and a second groove, the first groove matches the connecting portion for receiving the connecting portion, and the second groove matches the ring for receiving the ring.
5. The protective cover according to claim 4, wherein the second groove forms an interference fit with the ring, and the ring can be deformed to be received in the second groove under a pressing force towards the back portion of the housing.
6. The protective cover according to claim 2, wherein a recess is defined on the back portion of the housing near the edge of the groove.
7. The protective cover according to claim 1, wherein the connecting portion is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber.
8. The protective cover according to claim 1, wherein the connecting portion and the housing are integral.
9. The protective cover according to claim 1, wherein the connecting portion and the ring are integral.
10. The protective cover according to claim 1, wherein the angle formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing is 90 degrees.
11. A method for making a protective cover, the protective cover comprising a housing, a connecting portion extended from a back portion of the housing, an angle being formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing, and a ring positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion; wherein the connecting portion is formed by injecting from the back portion of the housing.
12. The method according to claim 11, wherein the connecting portion is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber.
13. A method for making a protective cover, the protective cover comprising a housing, a connecting portion extended from a back portion of the housing, an angle being formed between the connecting portion and the back portion of the housing, and a ring positioned at an end portion of the connecting portion; wherein the connecting portion and the ring are formed by injecting from the back portion of the housing.
14. The method according to claim 13, wherein the connecting portion is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber.
