Description

Dec. 24, 19355 B, M. RoBBlNs COMBINED TOY BALLOON AND SOUVENIR Filed Aug. 51, 1954 fa/f,
Patented Dec. 24, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to toy balloons and the object of the invention is to provide a combined toy balloon and souvenir having a surprise feature embodied therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toy balloon containing a favor or toy which is released when the balloon has burst.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toy balloon which is particularly useful for holiday parties, such as Valentine parties, Christmas parties and birthday parties.
I accomplish the above, and other objects of the invention which will be apparent as the description proceeds, by means of the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective of a toy balloon embodying my invention; and
Figure 2 is an elevation of a typical scroll to be enclosed in the toy balloon and forming one of the important features of my invention.
It is well recognized that all merrymaking parties are much enlivened by the distribution of' favors to the guests; if these favors embody an element of surprise of a cleverly thought out scheme, the pleasure of the occasion is enhanced.
At Christmas time, it is the custom to present guests with Yuletide gifts, often bearing an appropriate verse. At birthday celebrations, this custom is universal, while the pleasure of other parties, whether at holiday time or not, is largely dependent upon the uniqueness of the entertainment.
With these facts in mind, the present invention has to do with a simple and inexpensive object which will provide at an entertainment the amusement and surprise so desired by the gracious host or hostess.
On the drawing, in which like reference characters indicate like parts on all the views thereof, I indicates a conventional toy balloon which may be of any desired shape and may bear any desired ornamentation.
The balloon is provided with the usual valved mouthpiece 2 through which the balloon may be inflated to the form shown in Figure 1.
Located within the balloon are here shown, in dotted lines in Figure 1, a souvenir toy 3 and a scroll 4.
The scroll 4 is shown as bearing thereon a verse 5 descriptive of the illustration 5. This scroll, obviously, may be of any desired outline, although herein shown as circular, and it may either be rolled for insertion through the valved mouthpiece 2 or it may be folded into convenient form.
While the legend and the illustration on the scroll as herein shown is such that it might be embodied in my toy balloon when it was desired to distribute souvenirs at an entertainment having no particular seasonal or holiday significance, it is apparent that scrolls having illustrations and verses appropriate fork special occasions are often desirable. A number of balloons having such suitable scrolls may be manufactured in sets and will come within the purview of my invention.
While I am aware that toy balloons having noise making elements therein are old in the art, some of which are secured in the balloon and some of which move freely about therein, I believe that I am the rst to provide a toy balloom having a surprise feature therein which will provide an amusing and interesting surprise and souvenir after the balloon has been exploded.
In making use of my invention, the toy balloons may be distributed to the guests at the entertainment, or serve as favors at the refreshment table. The guests, upon handling them, and inflating them, would know immediately that there was an object or objects within the balloon and curiosity would prompt them to inflate the balloon until it burst. While the ination of a toy balloon and even the bursting 25 thereof furnishes amusement, after the bursting thereof, the balloon is useless, and it is therefore apparent that my two-purpose toy balloon and souvenir is more than twice as amusing than an ordinary toy balloon since it provides a lasting enjoyment to the guest who receives it.
While I have shown my invention as embodying a toy balloon and two objects therein, it is apparent that either the toy 3 or the scroll 4 may be used alone if 'so desired. The objects 3 and 4 may be enclosed in the balloon during the manufacture thereof or may be inserted therein through the mouthpiece after manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isc- 1. A toy favor comprising a toy balloon of substantially opaque material, a distinctive surprise souvenir toy enclosed therein invisible through the walls thereof in either the inated or deflated form of the balloon, said souvenir toy being free from said balloon.
2. A toy favor comprising a toy balloon of substantially opaque material and a souvenir object embodying a surprise feature enclosed within said toy balloon and invisible through the walls thereof, said souvenir object being free from the balloon and of relatively large size and constructed and arranged for reduction in size 55
