TOOTHBRUSH Filed DEC. 5, 1934 Patented Jan. .14, 1936 UNITED sTATEs PATENT 'oFFl-CE j 'roornnusn In Germany December 11, 1933 Application December 5, 1934, Serial No. 756,143.
2 claims. l(ci. 1 5-129) My invention relates to a tooth brush of the type provided with a hollow handle and adapted for a hose connection through which a flow of liquid is supplied to pass through the hollow 5 handle and through perforations between ,the bristles of the brush to ush the teeth whileY the brush acts upon the latter. It is an object of my invention to provide for an antiseptic substance to be stored in the hollow handle and to sparingly dissolve in liquid passing therethrough.
In order to be able to easily replenish the antiseptic material within the handle, it is a feature of my invention to compose the handle of two f readily detachable parts. It is a further object of my invention to provide a suitable antiseptic substance in a solid or compressed form so as to be able to very slowly dissolve in the flow of liquid and at least to such a degree that thereby the liquid ushing the teeth acts as a preventive against disease. The antiseptic material according to my invention may be applied in form of pills or tablets having an opening to allow a stream of liquid to pass through it and carry away as much of the antiseptic material 15 as can dissolve during a given space of time. It
is a further object of my invention to make provisions, within the hollow handle of the brush, for the storing ofa plurality of such tablets by means of a detachable carrier. I prefer to make l0 the handle,y or a portion thereof, of a transparentmaterial, such as celluloid or a transparent artificial resin, suchl artiiicial resins as are well known under various trade names, to enable the vuser of my novel brush to readily control the consumption of the antiseptic material within the handle.
The various objects of my invention are attained by a structural embodiment which I will now proceed to describe with reference to the drawing forming a part of this application and illustrating my Vinvention by way of example.
Fig. 1 is a sectional side view of the tooth brush according to my invention and shows a portion of the rubber tube by means of which the brush may be connected to a pressure source of liquid.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional vievg on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
50 Fig. 3 illustrates in a perspective view the operative connection of the new tooth brush to a palrot taps for hot and cold water respectively.
. liquid the property of preventing disease.
The handle of the brush is composed of two parts a1 and a2 detachably interconnected by means of screw threaded terminations. The handle part al is provided at its head with tufts of bristles c. `The handle ishollow throughout 5 its entire length, and into its hollow interior merge perforations d preferably placed intermediate the tufts of bristles and acting as jets.
vThe opposite end of the handle part aZ terminates in a perforated bulb f adapted to hold a 10 rubber tube g or the like hose connection. As shown in Fig. 3, the rubber tube g is connected to a pair of water taps 1n and n, one supplying hot water and the other one cold water, the tube g being divided into two branches Z, Z by means l5 of a tting i.
Within the hollow space of the handle a carrier e for tablets h of an antiseptic material is loosely fitted in and consists Vof a tubular part e1 and perforated separation walls e2; between 20 each two of the latter a tablet h is held. By means of this carrier e a plurality of tablets may be inserted into the hollow space of the handle with one manipulation. The tablets are preferably perforated as at h1 so that they do 25 not prevent the flow of liquid through the handle. Being immersed in the liquid the tablets are sparingly dissolved therein to impart to the The handle, or at least as far as it encloses the antiseptic material, is madeof a transparent material whereby any consumption of antiseptic material is rendered visible.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
. 1. As a new article for use in the manner described, an elongated body of substantially semicylindrical form, and a plurality of apertured disks carried by the body and disposed in planes perpendicularly thereto and in spaced relation 4 to each other, said disks being designed to receive therebetween correspondingly apertured .ber therein, and a frame slidably extended into the chamber and comprising a substantially semicylindrical body, and a plurality of apertured disks disposed in spaced parallel relation in the .body in planes extending transversely thereof 5 for the reception therebetween of bodies of soluble material.
SCHULlM BRAUNSTEIN.
