Still further the invention contemplates an o arrangement whereby the several portions of the clothes pin may be latched together when desired to prevent its coming off a clothes line and to prevent clothes from disengaging from it.

Another object is the construction of a device as mentioned which is simple and durable. and

which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

For further comprehension of the invention,

and of the objects and advantages thereof, ref- 3o erence will be had to the following description clothes pin constructed according tothis invention and shown applied on a clothes line.

The end portions are connected with the centralportion by bent portions [3. The extremities of the end portions have small curled portions 10 M. The upper portion of the central portion III is opposed to the end portion ii and permits the device to be engaged upona clothes line, and which is indicated by the reference numeral I5.

The lower portion of the central portion I0 is 5 opposed to the end portion I2 and forms a hook or clamp in which the strips or edges of clothes may be engaged.

An arrangement is also provided whereby the extremities of the end portions may be. latched 2 to the central portion when desired to prevent the accidental disengagement of the clothes pin from a. clothes line, and also the accidental disengagement of clothing straps and other similar parts from the clothes pin.

This means comprises a headed prong i6, preferably of T-shape, stamped from the material of each end portion and adapted to be forced into engagement with correspondingly shaped slots in the central portion. In Figs. 2 and 3 the headed prongs l6 normally are in a position so that they cannot engage into the receiving openings H. In order to cause the engagement it is necessary that the end portions be forced toward the central portion in and away from the bent portions i3 so that the heads of the prongs l6 pass through I the large parts of the openings l1. When pressure is released the heads .of the prongs will engage behind the material of the clothes pin to either side of the vertical stem of the T-shape i1, and thus the end portions are latched to the central portion.

In Fig. 5 a modified form of the invention has been shown in which the clothes pin is provided with handles by which it may be easily manipulated. According to this form of the invention it comprises a central portion lll'which is connected by bends l3 to end portions II' and I2, respectively. In Fig. 6 another modified form of the invention is disclosed in which the clothes pin comprises an integral strip having a side portion 2| connected by a bent portion 22 with another side portion 23. The free ends of the side portions 2! and 23 are finished by curled portions 24. One of the side portions is formed with a headed prong engageable in a receiving opening H in the side portion similar to the arrangement as previously described. It is thus possible to interengage the headed prong within the opening by suitable relative pressure between the end portions so as to lock the end portions together.
