This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in nose attachments especially adapted for use by hay-fever sufferers.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a nasal device which can be applied to the nose so as to prevent the entrance of pollen, dust, or other irritating elements into the nasal cavities of the person wearing the device.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of the character stated, which will be simple of construction, and of low cost of manufacture.

These and other important objects and ad-' vantages of vthe invention willbecome apparent to the reader of the following specification.

.Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents a semi-circular shaped shell having the back wall 6. and front wall I. An upstanding front wall is provided at the forward edge portion of the compartment or shell 5 and this front wall 8 is provided with an inwardly sloping top flange 9' which may be provided with a cushioned rim.l0 for engagement against the nose of the patient.

The front wall I of the shell 5 is provided with the rectangular shaped' opening Ii therein and numeral l2 represents a closure for this opening which is hingedly connected as at I3 to the front wall I. The free end of this closure I! can be engaged by the spring detent II on the front wall I, to retain the closure in closed posi'-' tion. This opening Ii permits the cotton or other substance ii tobe placed in the shell 5.. This cotton is saturated with some suitable salve such as Vaseline" or some suitable medicament. In fact, the cotton can be saturated with any substance that will collect dust and pollen so that it cannot be breathed by the patient.

To permit breathing by the patient through the substance is, the bottom wall It is provided with openings i1 therein, while the top wall 18 of the shell 5 is provided with openings l9 therein. The front wall I at the end'thereof is provided with eyes 20 with which the hooks 2| on the ends of the head strap'22 engage so 5 as to hold the device snugly against the lower portion of the nose.

From the drawings it will be appreciated that my novel device in plan is of general arcuate form, and that by virtue of said arcuate form 0 and the employment of the cushion on the rim at the top edge and side edges thereof, the device when applied will be very comfortable to the face of the wearer; also, that the cushion which is numbered l0 and is best shown in Fig- 15 ures 1 and 5 prevents any air entering the nostrils save that which is drawn through the body of filtering substance is. It. will also be appreciated that the novel arrangement of the closure i2 for the opening in the front of the device lends itself to the facility with which used substance l5 may be removed when contaminated and may bereplaced with fresh filtering substance as i5.

While the foregoing specification sets forth 2 the invention in specific terms, it is to be understoodthat numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

The improvement described in the type of nose devices containing bodies of substance for I filtering air passing into the nostrils of a wearer,

which comprises essentially a shell of arcuate I form in plan having a cushion on its upper edge and side edges, and also having an opening in the front of its lower portion and imperforate means for normally closing said opening, walls 0 carried in the shell and disposed-below and above the horizontal plane of the said opening and said walls having openings of their own for the ppward passage of air, and filtering substance fully occupying the space between the said walls, said filtering substance being of a character adapted to be inserted and removed through the opening inthe lower portion of the shell front.
