This invention relates to a vanity case equipped with a watch which is swingingly supported between the case covers through one of which is an opening affording a view of the watch dial. It is an object of my invention to associate a watch with a vanity case having the usual fittings, and to do this in a way which is simple, economical, compact, and compatible with structural features common to a vanity of the present time.

An exemplification. of my invention is set forth in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a view in plan of a vanity case equipped with a watch according to the present invention;

Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of the watch case unit which is swingingly joined to the present vanity. I

As shown, I provide two complementary dished covers A and B each provided alongone edge with a plurality of interfitting joints 5 through which is extended a common hinge pin 6. The two covers thus joined may swing to the open position shown in Fig. 2, or be closed together as indicated in Figs. 1 and 3 where they are secured as by a spring catch 1.

Between two of the joints, and fitted around the hinge pin 6, is a central joint ill at one end of a tongue II which extends from a box-like case C into which is fitted a watch movement having a dial D. The watch case comprises also a back l2 and opposite thereto is a crystal l3 supported in the case within a frame M which extends outwardly to define within its confines a window which faces the cover A. The dial of the watch which lies adjacent the window may be read from the exterior of the case. Through the case wall opposite the tongue is a notch I5 through which may extend the watch stem carrying at its extremity the usual crown I6. The mounting of the case joint on the hinge pin is preferably sufiiciently tight to prevent loose swinging movement of the watch when the case covers are opened.

In the case cover A, opposite the window, is an opening 0 wherein is receivable the frame It permitting the watch dial to be seen therethrough. Because of the interfitting of this opening and dial frame, the entire watch case is supported against lateral movement when the case is closed. In line with this opening are two other registering openings l1 and I8 formed in platforms l9 and 20 carried by the case covers A and B respectively. Each platform may be snap-fitted in place adjacent the peripheral edge of the cover wherein it is carried so as to define therebelow a space into which the watch case will extend when the vanity is closed. The two platform openings which are in register are each provided with a recess 2| at the side remote from the hinge pin 6 so as to receive the crown when the watch is centrally disposed between the closed covers of the vanity.

In accordance with usual practice, a mirror M with a backing pad P is provided, being preferably carried by the platform in the cover A. A lid 22 is hinged to the other platform to close off a space therebelow for containing lipstick, rouge, or other cosmetic. A further lid 23 is hinged to this latter platform to cover a powder compartment therebelow, and if desired this lid may be dished, as shown, to accommodate a puff P.

In practice, when the vanity is closed, the watch is exposed to view through the opening 0 near one end of the cover A; or, if the vanity be opened, the watch is equally exposed to view as it remains disposed in part within the space below the platform of the cover B which contains the powder compartment. For purposes of winding, the watch may be lifted out of this position sufliciently to render the crown accessible for turning movements. The location of the watch, regardless of the position of the vanity covers, is such as not to interfere with the use of the mirror or with access to the puiT, or to the compartments below the two lids which are carried on the platform 20.

It will be found that the construction herein described involves very little additional expense (except for the watch itself), that the dimensions of the vanity case need not be increased in the least, and that ample accommodations are still provided for the usual fittings which characterize vanity cases of the present time.

I claim:

1. In a pocket case, the combination of two complementary dished covers having a hinged connection therebetween, and a watch having a hinged mounting interiorly of the case, the watch comprising a case, a frame extended outwardly from the case, a crystal within the frame and a dial adjacent the crystal, there being an opening through one case cover adjacent the frame of a size adapted to receive the frame therethrough and interfit therewith whereby the watch in its entirety is laterally supported by engagement therewith.

2. In a pocket case, the combination of two case portions having a hinge connection therebetween, a platform in one case portion adapted to mount a mirror, 2. platform in the other case portion adapted to mount a lid to a powder compartment therebelow, one case portion and its associated platform having registering openings and a further registering opening in the other platform, and a watch case mounting a movement between the platforms of the two case portions so as to extend through the registering openings in said platforms and into the opening in one case portion when said case portions are in closed position.

3. In a pocket case, the combination of two oppositely dished case portions having a hinge connection therebetween, a platform in one case portion adapted to mount amirror, a platformin the other case portion adapted to mount a lid to a powder compartment therebelow, one case portion and its associated platform having registering openings and a further registering opening in the other platform, and a watch case mounting a movement hinged co-axially with the hinge connection between the case portions adapted to extend through the registering openings in the two platforms into the spaces therebelow and to expose the movement dial through the cover opening.

4. In a pocket case, the combination of two case forming portions having a hinge connection therebetween, a platform supported in one case portion defining a space therebelow, one

case portion and said platform having registering openings, the opening in the platform being the larger, and a watch case mounting a movement between said case portions so as to extend through the platform opening into the space therebelow and to extend into and seal the opening in the cover when the case portions are closed to expose the movement dial of the watch therethrough.

5. In a pocket case, the combination of two hinged case forming members having compartment spaces therebetween when in closed position, a watch having a hinged mounting interiorly of the pocket case and a flanged crystal carrying portion surrounding the dial of the watch, and one of said case members having an opening of a size for interfitting engagement With the flanged crystal carrying portion of the watch, when said case forming members are moved to enclose said compartment spaces therebetween.

6. In a pocket case having two case forming portions with a hinge connection therebetween, a platform extending across the inner side of each case forming portion providing separate compartment spaces in each case portion, one case portion and its associated platform having registering openings and a further registering opening in the platform of the other case portion, a watch case having a hinged mounting interiorly of the pocket case so as to extend through the registering openings in the two platforms into the spaces therebelow, and the watch case having a flanged crystal mounting surrounding the watch dial adapted to interfit with the walls of the opening in the cover when said cover portions are in closed position over said compartment'spaces.

'7. In a pocket case, the combination of two case forming portions having a hinge connection therebetween, compartments formed in one case portion to be closed by the other case portion and one case portion having an opening disposed out of registration with said compartment, a watch case mounted interiorly of said pocket case for movement relative to the case forming portions, and means for supporting said Watch case so as to register with and seal the opening in one case portion when the other case portion is brought into closing engagement therewith over said compartments.

8. In a pocket compartment case including a hinge closure for the compartment of said case, said closure being formed with an opening-therein, a platform mounted within said case and extending between said compartments in spaced relation to one side wall thereof to provide a space therebelow, said platform being formed with an opening positioned to register with the opening insaid case closure, a watch having a hinged mounting interiorly of the case so as to extend through the opening in said platform into the space therebelow, said watch comprising a case and a flanged crystal carrying portion surrounding the dial of the watch of a size for interfitting engagement with the sides of the opening in said'hinge closure member, whereby the Watch in its entirety is laterally supported by engagement with the sides of said registering openings and the opening in said closure sealed when said closure is in closed position over the compartment of the case.
