1 Glaim. (GL 248-404) The present invention relates to adjustable brackets particularly adapted for use in holding a nursing bottle during the feeding of an infant. The primary object oi. the invention is to provide a convenient bracket which, by its novel construction, is rendered universally adjustable to hold a bottle orother article in any position required. v
A further object of the invention is to provide in conjunction with an adjustable bracket a holding clamp which will permit of extending the flexible arm comprising the bracket in any direction. from the holding clamp best suiting the conditions under ployed.
The invention will befully and comprehensively understood from a consideration of the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of theapplication.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating the use of my device in holding a nursing bottle to'the sides of a crib.
Fig. 2 is a top elevational view of the entire adjustable clamp, parts thereof being broken away in central section. Fig. 3 15 a side elevational view of the device as illustrated in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view 39 ment of the bottle clamp.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken on line 8-8 of Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawing for a more de-- tailed description thereof, the numeral 5 indicates a c-clamp having threadedly engaged therewith a clamping screw 6. The screw 6 is provided with a knurled head I in which is cut a threaded recess 8.
The arm of the adjustable clamp is indicated by numeral 9 and comprises a suitable flexible structure such as the tubing usually employed for reading lamps and the like. To one end oi. the arm 9 is secured a threadedplug l0 adapted to be engaged in the recess 8 of the screw head I. The body of the clamp 5 is provided with a plurality of sockets ll preferably formed integral .with the clamp 5 and extending from opposite sides thereof. The sockets H are interiorly 50 threaded to receive the plug it) in support of the arm 9 when the use of the device requires such position for the'arm 9.
To the other end of the flexible arm 9 is secured a member 12 having a hemispherical recess 55 I3 formed therein to receive a ball M comprising a universal joint. The screw collar l5, fitting of one eleover the neck of the ball it, threadedly engages which the device may be emthe member iii to clamp the ball id securely in the desired setting.
The universal joint comprising the ball i5 is provided to adjustably hold a bottle clamp it to the arm 9. The clamp l5 comprisesa pair of hingedly connected jaws ll and it, each of which is arcuately shaped to fit the sides of the bottle. Corresponding ends oi the jaws ill and iii are bent upon themselves and extended arcuately to form operating lugs l9. Corresponding hinge ears 2d are integrally formed on each of the jaws ll and it by bending side portions of same into parallelism with each other, substantially as illustrated. Aligned apertures are formed in each of the hinge ears 26, thru which a hinge pin 2i is inserted. A torsional spring 22 surrounds the hinge pin 2i and has its free ends 220, oppositely extended to bear against the respective lugs it so as to urge the jaws ll and i8 toward each other to grasp a bottle or similar article.
To provide an attachment for the clamp it to the shank extending from the ball i l the hinge ears ill of the clamping jaw il are extended to form strips 23 bent from the ears 2% to extend. toward and overlap each other. Thru the oven lapping portion of the strips 23 is cut an aperture 2t into which the shank of the ball i l may be rigidly secured.
It ,will be observed from the foregoing that by urging the lugs it toward each other the jaws I! and it of the clamp 55 may be conveniently operated to grip a bottle or like article, the mentioned jaws being urged toward each other by the action of the spring 22.
It is to be understood that this improvement is capable oi extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit oi? the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is:
An adjustable bracket comprising a G-clamp, an article holding clamp, and a flexible con meeting the latter to the former, the C-clarnp being provided with a clamping screw having an internally threaded socket in the head thereof and being further provided at an intermediate point with a socket member open at opposite ends and internally threaded, the clamp screw carried socket and the open ended socket member having their axes in right angularly related planes and the adjustable arm being provided with a threaded plug selectively engageable in the screw carried socket or in either end of the open ended socket member.
