Description

May 10, 1938. A. FEHRENBACH MASSAGE AND SHAMPOO DEVICE Filed Oct. 10, 1935 Patented May 10, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to bath accessories and particularly to devices adapted for shampooing the hair and massaging the scalp and skin.
When it is desired to shampoo the hair and to massage the skin, it is now necessary to use several devices. One disadvantage of such an arrangement lies in the fact that one or the other of the separate articles may become lost or be misplaced, resulting in annoyance and loss of time.
With this in view, it is the principal object of my invention to provide a unitary shampooing and massaging device.
A further feature of the invention lies in the provision of a shampooing and massaging device, having two faces, one for shampooing and the other for massaging, the device being adapted to be removably engaged with a faucet, whereby a constant stream of water may be had.
Still another advantage resides in the construction of a shampooing and massaging device, being provided with a plurality of pliable projections on one side, and having a sponge-like facing on the other side.
Another aim lies in the provision of a unitary shampooing and massaging device having two members, each of which being provided with a plurality of perforations.
These and other objects and advantages are achieved by the novel construction and combination of few and simple parts, hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal, sectional view of an embodiment of the invention, in which the member adapted for shampooing is in position for use.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the device, parts being broken away to show its construction.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal, sectional view of a modified form of the device.
Referring in greater detail to the drawing, the numeral Ill designates a handle having a hollow center, the lower end of which is in engagement with one end of a flexible tube II, the other end of the tube, not shown, adapted to be connected to a source of water supply.
A metal band having screw threads I1 and I 8' has a downwardly reaching, centrally located nipple I4, engaged in the upper end of the handle I0.
Upwardly extending from the nipple I I is a hollow chamber I5, terminating at its upper end in a band I6 having screw threads I1 and I8.
Held between screw threads I8 and I8 is a narrow hard rubber disc I9, provided with a plurality of perforations 20. Juxtaposed on the hard rubber disc I9 is a soft rubber disc 2| of sponge-like material, extending outwardly from 5 the screw threads I8 and I8.
Held between screw threads I! and I1 and in spaced relation to the hard rubber disc I9 is an applicator 22, its concave face being provided with a plurality of flexible, conical projections 23. A plurality of openings 25 are provided, intermediatethe projections 23.
A convex metal plate 25 having screw threads 26 is provided for attachment to either the applicator or the shampooing device, depending up- 15 on which of the two is to be used.
In Figure 3, a modified form of the invention is shown, wherein an adapter 22, already described above, having a plurality of projections 23 and openings 24 intermediate the projections is held between screw threads I8 and I8 in spaced relation to the backing 21 of a brush member, the brush member being held between screw threads I! and H. The concave face of brush member 21 is provided with a plurality of 25 brush tufts 29 and openings 28 intermediate the tufts 29.
As already described, a convex metal plate 25 having screw threads 26 is provided for attachment to either of the two members. 30
Although the foregoing is descriptive of the preferred embodiments of the device, it will be understood that other modifications may be made Within the scope of the appended claim and without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
In a bath spray head, a metal band having screw threads at both ends, a nipple centrally located on said band to engage a liquid supply tube, a thin perforate hard rubber backing disc set in said band spaced from its center, a soft rubber disc juxtaposed on said backing and extending outwardly from said band, a perforate applicator having a concave face secured in said band in spaced relation to said backing, said applicator having a plurality of conical projections, and a cap engageable on either end of said band toenclose said disc or applicator selectively.
