This invention relates to beauty appliances and more especially to those worn on the head and face to remove wrinkles and creases of the skin, and to reposition and manipulate themuscles and sub-cutaneous tissues of the cheeks, chin and neck, restoring them to their normal status.

; The most common types of appliances are in the form of chin straps and supporting devices which are made of one or more sections and merely press 101 against a certain section of the face and are held insecurely by ties on the back of the head.

Other types merely enclose certain areas by a tight form-fitting mask and change the position of tissue and muscle within that area from one point to another.

A primary object of my invention is to produce a beauty appliance in the form of an open faced .helmet, completely enclosing the neck, the 611-. tire head and the face with the exception of the eyes, nose andmouth. The active parts of the device are capable of both repositioning the muscle and tissue and also compressing thetissue inat least two definite directions and holding them in the required position until the desired changes are accomplished.

The, skin is also gently stretched in two directions where required and softly massaged while in that position to 'remove' wrinkles by the action of the material from which it is made.

30, The non-stretchable parts are used-to apply the required tension to the, stretchableparts, to hold the ears back against the head and also to protect the coiffure from being disturbed if ;appliance is worn at night.

- In accordance with my invention there is produced an appliance which is required in one size only and is washable and sanitary.

The use of my invention smooths the skin where wrinkles are present and, with or without the 40'. application of medication, the double action of the elastic under multiple tension gentlymassages the skin; gradually reducing the wrinkles.

Where required, increasing the tension of my device produces additional perspiration at certain 4,5 localized parts which tends to soften and bleach the skin.

Where prescribed, a slight atrophic action can be produced by the proper application of my device to assist in reducing the amount of loose 5 tissue under the skin.

My appliance also repositions and redistributes thetissue of sagging cheeks, double chins and necks to less conspicuouspdsitions and restores them to their normal condition. The helmet form being a single unit makes the appliance completely adjustable as to fit and tensionby' means of one lacing only, and is comfortable to the wearer whether it is used in the day time or worn while sleeping Further objects of the invention will herein 5 after. appear from the following description of a preferred embodiment illustrative of the invention'and' shownin the accompanying drawing in which' .Figure 1 isa side view of one form of the apl0 pliance; a

The-device consists of a' helmet shaped appliance with stretchable parts and non-stretchl5 able parts with a slit opening in the back, the sides of whichopening .lcan be adjustably drawn together by a lacing threaded through eyelets in the :sides of the opening. 1

Forehead portion 3 40 is joined to cheek, chin and neck portion 4 and 5 at Ili'andxl l, forming a face opening, a neck opening, and a head opening. The face opening thus formed isvbound by. a continuous. piece of .oneway stretchable elastic l2 attached by the zig-zag 5 lock stitch. In the back of head portion 2 there is a slit opening 13, I4 extending from its open end in the neck opening section of portions 45 and terminating at point I5 on the head end of tension band 8. Sides of slit opening l3, M are 50 each provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets l6; Tensioning lacing I1 is laced through eyelets IG and is in running engagement with them.

Tensionband 8 is fastened at one end to' the middle-point of the top edge of forehead portion 55- 3 and at the other end to the apex of the slit opening l3, M, at point l5.

The neck opening of portion 4, 5, is bound with one continuous piece of one-way stretchable elastic l8 and extends the entire length from one inner edge of slit opening l3 to the other inner edge of slit opening l4. Head portion 2 is made of non-stretchable material, preferably net or lace. Forehead portion 3 and cheek, chin and neck portion 4 and 5 are made of two-way stretchable elastic material, sometimes known as lastex with the short stretch positioned horizontally and the long stretch positioned vertically.

One-way stretchable elastic is also used for binding and connecting the sections together as at 9, l2, and I8 and is preferably slightly more resistant to stretch in its own uni-direction than the attached two-way stretch is in the same direction.

Head portion 6-1, is fastened to portions -3-5, along the edges indicated by I9, 20, 2|, 22, 23, and 24 by means of a zig-zag lock stitch with all stretchable parts being stretched to full extent before non-stretchable parts are attached. This provides a smooth seam and when expanded in use by stretching, the tension between the parts is evenly distributed.

To apply my device, the lacing I1 is loosened and the head is slipped into the helmet through the combined neck and slit openings. When in place symmetrically, the skin and tissue underneath are smoothed out with the hands. Excess and loose tissue and skin are repositioned under the stretchable portions 3, 4 and 5. Wrinkles in the forehead are smoothed out under 3. The

lacing I l, is slightly tightened. The tension band 8 is then pulled back hard, stretching vertically the forehead portion 3 and the contiguous parts of portions 4 and 5 which are joined thereto at 10 and l I. The elastic stretches rather than the helmet slipping as it is held down by the neck band l8. The lacing I1 is then tightened to the required tension starting at the end adjacent to l5 down through the spaced eyelets to a point just under the occipital bone in the back of the head, which acts as a snub and holds all the vertical stretch extended in place pending the balance of the adjustment.

The continuous piece of elastic l2, around the face Opening gives both vertical and horizontal stretch. The pull of band 9 against the'bottom of the chin gives vertical stretch.

Tightening of the balance of the lacing I! from the occipitus downward tightens up the neckband l8 further, then stretches all parts horizontally, a knot tied in the tensioning lacing adjacent to the lowest eyelets thus holds all the vertical and horizontal stretch in an extended position. It is then possible to reach in through the face opening and with the fingers make the final adjustments of skin and tissue.

All these adjustments result in stretching the forehead and face sections both horizontally and vertically, the clinging tenacious action of the elastic transmitting its effect to the skin and tissue beneath.

The elastic portions maintain the desired varying tensions placed on the various portions of the lacing which may be tight or loose or any number of possible combinations of tension depending on the action required, the locus of operation or the progression of results being obtained.

It is apparent that the details of the appliance described may be varied without departing from the nature or principle of my invention and it is my intention not to limit the invention to the particular details set forth but to describe one method of obtaining the desired end so that said end, being once realized, may be accomplished by changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims. 7

For certain special purposes of facial manipulation, the face opening with its tensioning periphery may be made large or small to include or exclude the eyes, nose and mouth or any combination of these features or may be divided into more than one stretchable opening by fitting and shaping the stretchable face portions to provide the required tension at the desired location.

Having described the preferred embodiment illustrative of my invention, I claim:

l. A helmet device of the character described comprising as a single unit a non-stretchable head portion, a porous two-way stretchable forehead portion, a combined porous two-way stretchable cheek, chin and neck portion both said portions having their directions of stretch positioned substantially horizontally and vertically, and a tensioning lacing, the lower extremities of said forehead portion being permanently attached to the upper extremities of said cheek portion forming, on their combined outer edges, openings for the face and neck and having their combined inner edges permanently attached to said head portion forming an open faced helmet, said forehead portion being adapted for disposition against the forehead and for vertically lifting the skin and tissue of the forehead upwards from the eyebrows towards the top of the head and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue horizontally from the centre of the forehead towards the temples, said cheek portions being adapted for disposition against the cheeks and for vertically lifting the skin and tissue of the cheeks upwards from the jaws towards the temples and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the cheeks horizontally from the sides of the nose and mouth towards the back of the neck, said chin portion being adapted for disposition against the chin and for vertically pulling the skin and tissue of the chin downwards from the lower lip and lower cheeks towards the neck and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the chin horizontally from the sides of the lower lip towards the back of the neck, said neck portion being adapted for disposition against the neck and for vertically pulling the skin and tissue of the neck downwards from the lower chin towards the body and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the neck horizontally from the front of the neck towards the back of the neck, said head portion enclosing a slit opening, the sides of said slit opening being bound with a non-stretchable material, said material being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets adapted to cooperate in running engagement with said tensioning lacing, said slit opening extending from said neck opening to a point opposite the centre of said forehead portion.

A helmet device of the character described comprising as a single unit a non-stretchable head portion, a porous two-way stretchable forehead portion, a combined porous two-way stretchable cheek, chin and neck portion both said portions having their directions of stretch positioned substantially horizontally and vertically, and a tensioning lacing, the lower extremities of said forehead portion being permanently attached to the upper extremities of said cheek and for vertically lifting the skin and tissue of the forehead upwards from the eyebrows towards the top of the head and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue horizontally from the centre of the forehead towards the temples, said cheek portions being adapted for disposition against the cheeks and for vertically lifting the skin and tissues of the cheeks upwards from the jaw towards the temples and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the cheeks horizontally from the sides of the nose and mouth towards the back of the neck, said chin portion being adapted for disposition against the chin and for vertically pulling the skin and tissue of the chin downwards from the lower lip and lower cheeks towards the neck and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the chin horizontally from the sides of the lower lip towards the back of the neck, said neck portion being adapted fordisposition against the neck and for vertically pulling the skin and tissue of the neck downwards from the lower chin towards the body and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the neck horizontally from the front of the neck towards the back of the neck, said head portion enclosing a slit opening, the sides of said slit opening being bound with a non-stretchable material, said material being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets adapted to cooperate in running engagement with said tensioning lacing, said slit opening extending from said neck opening. to a point opposite the centre of said forehead portion.

A helmet device of the character described comprising as a single unit a non-stretchable head portion, a porous two-way stretchable forehead portion, a combined porous two-way stretchable cheek, chin and neck portion, both said portions having their directions of stretch positioned substantially horizontally and vertically, a non-stretchable tension band, and a tensioning lacing, the lower extremities of said forehead portion being permanently attached to the upper extremities of said cheek portion forming, on their combined outer edges, openings for the face and neck and having their combined inner edges permanently attached to said head portion forming an open faced helmet, the length of the said combined inner edge when stretched to its elastic limit being the same as the length of the adjacent edge of the said non-stretchable head portion fastened thereto and cooperating therewith, said forehead portion being adapted for disposition against the forehead and for vertically lifting the skin and tissue of the forehead upwards from the eyebrows towards the top of the head and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue horizontally from the centre of the forehead towards the temples, said cheek portions being adapted for disposition against the cheeks and for vertically lifting the skin and tissues of the cheeks upwards from the jaws towards the temples and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the cheeks horizontally from the sides of the nose and mouth towards the back of the neck, said chin portion being adapted for disposition against the chin and for vertically pulling the skin and tissue of the chin downwards from the lower lip and lower cheeks towards the neck and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the chin horizontally from the sides of the lower lip towards the back of the neck, said neck portion being adapted for disposition against the neck and for vertically pulling the skin and tissue of the neck downwards from the lower chin towards the body and simultaneously stretching the skin and tissue of the neck horizontally from the front of the neck towards the back of the neck, said head portion enclosing a slit opening, the sides of said slit opening being bound with a non-stretchable material, said material being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets adapted to cooperate in running engagement with said tensioning lacing, said slit opening extending from said neck opening to a point opposite the centre of said forehead portion, said tension band extending from and being permanently fastened to the central point of the upper edge of said forehead portion and extending to and being permanently fastened to the apex of said slit opening.
