3 Claims.

This invention aims to provide a novel covering for a water closet seat, to provide novel means for separating any layer of the covering so that it may be removed, and to provide novel means for hingedly connecting the seat with existing closet bowl structures. The invention aims, generally, to supply an efiicient and sanitary covering for a toilet seat.

It is within the province of the disclosure to m improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.

With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the inven- 5 tion resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within 20 the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In carrying out the invention, there is provided a water closet seat I, which may be made of pulp,

wood, or any other cheap substance, it being the intention that preferably, but not necessarily, the seat shall be thrown away as soon as the coverings on it have been depleted. Superposed coverings 2, made of Cellophane, paper or any other 3'; suitable substance are secured together, as shown at 3, and are secured at 30, adhesively or otherwise, to the seat.

The seat I has an uncomfortably roughened fixed upper surface 4 of any desired kind, located beneath the coverings 2, and constraining an operator to renew the coverings when the lowermost covering has been removed. Rough sand paper may be used at 4.

On the rear end of the seat I are mounted spring clip means 5, forming a releasable hinge connection between the seat I and the hinge journal 6 of a Water closet bowl 1. The seat, therefore, may be assembled readily with the bowl, in without the use of tools.

coverings 2 are weakened along lines 9, by perforations or otherwise, extending from one rear corner III of the seat, along one outer edge II of the seat, across one forward end I2 of the seat,

around the edge of the hole I4 in the seat and along the opposite outer edge I6 of the seat, to form a pulling ribbon 20 extending from the corner II] to the corner I1, and constituting a means whereby any covering may be set free and removed.

Beyond the corner ID of the seat I, the ribbons 20 terminate in free ended tabs I8. Adjacent to the corner I I the seat I has an outwardly extended and outwardly inclined shoulder I9, giving 10 prominence to the tabs I8, to facilitate taking hold of any of the tabs initially.

The operator simply lays hold of one of the tabs I8 and strips off the corresponding ribbon, the uppermost covering 2 being removed.

When the last covering has been detached, the roughened surface 4 will be so uncomfortable to the user that a new seat will be hooked in place, or a new set of coverings provided, before the seat is used again. 20

The device embodies a simple but sanitary structure, the advantages of which will be obvious without extended discussion.

What is claimed is:

1. A privy seat having an opening at the front, and coverings secured to the seat, the coverings being weakened along lines extending from one rear corner of the seat along one outer edge of the seat, across one forward end of the seat, around the edge of the hole in the seat, across the other forward end of the seat and along the outer edge of the seat, to form a pulling ribbon whereby any covering may be set free and removed, the seat being provided near to the first-specified corner with an outwardly-extended shoulder giving the adjacent ends of the ribbons lateral prominence, to facilitate taking hold of any ribbon initially.

2. A covering for a privy seat having an opening at the front, the covering being made up of layers, the layers being of inverted trough shape in cross section, each layer comprising a smooth upper part, an outer wall, an inner wall and front end walls connecting the inner and outer Walls, the layers being weakened along lines on the outer, and and inner walls, to form a pulling ribbon spaced from said upper part, the ribbon extending in an uninterrupted length along one outer wall, along the adjacent end wall, along the :0 adjacent inner wall, along the other inner wall, along the other end wall and along the other outer wall, whereby said upper part may be freed by one continuous pulling operation upon the ribbon, whilst the operator is seated on the ex- 55 coverings if an original set of coverings has been removed, said means being a roughened surface on the seat and under the coverings, and so uncomfortably abrasive as to lack the smooth characteristics of known toilet seats.
