Claims.' y(c1.k 244-18) FFICE This invention relates to a package tying device, and more particularly to a device adapted to be used yin effecting decorative tying up oi a package, box, or the like. f

One of the principal objects of the invention is the provision of a simplel and inexpensive device for use in connection with va box or package and adapted to permit ofeasily and quicklyv aiiixing the tying string, ribbon or the like about` 'the package or box, and at the same time tying it with a simulation'of a bow knot of desired number of bows to give a desired decorativegand ornamental appearance. f

A further object is the provision of a tying f device o1 this character which requires no xed attachment and in which the usual vcord or ribbon may be quickly aflixed with suitable holding capacity and decorative eiiect. 1

A further object is the provision of a tying device for packages and the like formed to provide a decorative face or medallion constructedby a simple -stamping'and folding operation fand which either attached to ther package or unattached thereto serves to provide an effective and ornamental tie for the package. Y

The medallion isconstructed from a sheet of composite material comprising a thin sheet of metal i6 and a paper backing l1. The medallion comprises 'a lowerHmember-f.

In' a decorative package tying device of the character described, a thin, substantially flat tieysecuring member which comprises upper and lower substan'tiallyflat c ompositemembers each comprising a thin sheet of ornamental metal adapted to be readily worked and having a'backingof thin paper material secured to one side thereof, said metal sheet and said paper backing being of comparable thinness and said paper material providing for reinforcing and stiifeningl the metal sheet, a coating of adhesive on the exposed face of the paper vbacking of `at least one of said member@ said coating of v,adhesive providing for securing the paper backing-of said upper and lower members together inv mutually reinforced face to facerelation to provide a unitary relatively stiff tie'- securingmember having upper and lower metallic surfaces, said upper member being provided with decorative embossing, a substantially hat, flexible base member having substantially the same size and shape as said tie-securing member, and means received between said upper and lower membersv of the tie-securing member for fastening said tie-securing member to said base member in predetermined kspaced relation thereto, said spacingproviding for receivingl a tie means in frictional engagement with the base member and y the bottom of said tie-securing member.

In a decorative package-tying device of the character described a` composite blank adapted to be folded to provide a bottoniA member and a cap member adapted to overlie and conceal said bottom member, said members being integrally joined at an edge portion and each comprising `a thin, pliable sheet of decorative metal adapted to be readily embossed and folded and having a backing of thin paper material secured to one side thereof and a coating of adhesive applied to V the exposed face of saidpaper backing, said metal `sheet and said paper backing being of comparable thinness and said paper material providing for reinforcing and stiffening the metal sheet,

saidbottom member being provided with an ap-` ertured depression positionedsubstantially centrally ofv the bottom member and providing for receiving an attaching means for fastening said 11e-securing member to a base member, said cap member having decorative and stiifening markings embossed thereon, 4and said adhesive coating' providing for securing said bottom member and said cap member 'together in folded, substantially flat, mutually reinforced relationship tok provide thin, relatively stiff, unitary tie-securing member having upper and lower metallic surfaces and adapted to resiliently receive and frictionally retain a tierneans therebeneath inl cooperation with said base member.

4. In a decorative package-tying device of thev character described, a thin substantially flat tiesecuring member which comprises a'composite bottom member and a compo-site cap memberr adapted to overlie andi'egister with said bottom member, each of said members comprising a thin,

pliable sheet of ornamental metal adapted'to be v readily worked and having a backing of thin paper material secured to one side thereof, said metal sheet and said paper backing being of comparable thinness vand said paper material providing for reinforcing and stiffening the metal sheet, said members being substantially flat over a substantial portion of their area including the marginal portion thereof and having a coating of adhesive on the exposed face of the paper backing of at least one of the members, attaching means for fastening said tie-securing member to a base member extending outwardly vthrough said bottom member substantially centrally'thereof, said lattaching means being provided with a head portion to be received between said bottom member and said cap member and concealed by the cap member, and said 'coating of adhesive providing for securing the paper backing of said members in mutually reinforced face to face relation to provideja unitary relatively stiff tie-securlng member having upper and lower metallic surfaces'and adapted toresiliently receiveandl frictionally retain a tie means therebeneath in cooperation with said base member.
