Description

April 23, 1940. v FULENWlDER 2,198,531
SAFETY RAZOR Original Filed April 30, 1936 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 23, 1940 UNITED STATES SAFETY RAZOR Vance Fulenwider, Jonesboro, Ark., assignor of fifty-one one-hundredths to James Jonesboro, Arkansas E. Parr,
Substitute for abandoned application Serial No. 77,256, April 30, 1936. This application May 8, 1939, Serial No. 272,536
4 Claims.
This invention relates to safety razors and has for an object to provide a skin stretching and lather spreading attachment which may be applied to the handles of all types of safety razors, and which may be easily adjusted longitudinally of the razor handle to dispose the operating rollers above the clamp member of the razor or at the edges of the guard member of the razor to adapt the device to clean or to close shaving, or to different beards.
A further object isto provide a device of this character which will be formed of a few strong durable and simple parts, which will be light in weight, which will be inconspicuous when applied to a razor, and which may be easily and quickly removed and replaced from the razor handle without the use of tools.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without the advantages of the invention.
This application is a substitutefor my abandoned application, Serial Number 77,256 filed April 30, 1936.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification,
Figure 1 is an end elevation of a safety razor equipped with a skin stretching and lather spreading attachment constructed in accordance with the invention and showing the rollers disposed above the clamp member.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure l but showing the device adjusted upon the razor handle to dispose the rollers at the longitudinal edges of the guard member.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the safety razor with the device in the position shown in Figure 1. Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of the device.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, the safety razor attachment is shown to comprise a resilient yoke including a split ring clamp l l and diverging arms [2, preferably formed of sheet metal. Each arm is equipped with a substantially rectangular wire frame l3, the ends I4 of the wire being bent parallel with each other at one side of the frame and engaged in eyes l5 which are formed by rolling the side edges of the arm back upon the arm as illustrated. Each frame is equipped with a rubber roller IS.
The split ring clamp ll may be slipped onto the handle I! of a safety razor and by virtue of its resiliency will expand or contract sumciently in diameter to snugly conform to the contour of 60 various sizes of handles and permit of the device departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of being manually shifted longitudinally of the han dle and held in adjusted position upon the handle. The resiliency of the arms l2 permit of the arms diverging slightly from each other to dispose the rollers |6 above the clamp member 18 of the razor, as best shown in Figure 1.
By manually withdrawing the split ring clamp H toward the end of the handle the rollers IE will ride off of the clamp member l8 and pass along the guard member IQ of the razor to a position at the longitudinal edges of the guard member, as best shown in Figure 2. These two adjusted positions of the rollers permit of the device being adjusted to suit various types of beards and to adjust the razor for close or clean shaving. During the shaving operation the rollers will stretch the skin ahead of the cutting edge of the razor blade 20 and simultaneously smooth the lather over the stretched skin so that the shaving operation will be more easily and more quickly performed than ordinarily.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is:
l. The combination with a safety razor, of a skin stretching and lather spreading attachment comprising a yoke having arms, means for slidably mounting the yoke on the handle of the razor, and rollers carried by the arms of the yoke and adapted to be disposed laterally of the edges of the razorblade and to be disposed above or below the blade by manually shifting said means upon the handle. I
2. The combination with a safety razor, of a resilient yoke including diverging arms and a split ring clamp, the clamp embracing and being shiftable longitudinally upon the handle of the safety razor, and rollers carried by the arms and adapted to be disposed above or below the cutting edges of the blade by movement of the clamp to adjusted position upon the handle.
3. A safety razor attachment comprising a resilient yoke having a split ring base adapted to embrace the razor handle and having diverging arms adapted to extend toward the razor blade, and rollers carried by the arms and adapted to be disposed above or below the razor blade by manual shifting of the split ring base upon the handle of the razor.
4. A safety razor attachment comprising a resilient yoke adapted to be adjustably mounted upon the razor handle and having arms, frames carried by the arms of the yoke, and rollers carried by the frames and adapted to be disposed above or below the razor blade by movement of the yoke to adjusted positions longitudinally of the handle of the razor.
