My invention has relation to improvements in shoes and consists of the novel features of construction more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claims.

The invention is primarily directed to a shoe construction comprising a combination inner sole and counter rigidly constructed so as to hold its natural shape and embody strength.

The primary object of the invention is the 10 formation of the insole and counter of a single piece of leather so shaped that one side of the counter is turned upwardly from the insole and of course formed integrally therewith, and the other side of the counter overlapping the insole and bedlasted thereto.

The construction of the shoe whereby this object is accomplished will be better understood from a .detailed description thereof in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the combination 20 insole and counter; Fig. 2 is a top plan thereof; Fig. 3 is a development showing the blank from which the inner sole and counter are formed; and Fig. 4 is a vertical cross-section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. 1

Referring to the drawing my improved shoe embodies an inner sole 8 and a counter 9 formed of a single piece of leather blanked out as shown in Figure 3. Figures 1 and 2 show the counter erected and the side I thereof, which constitutes flap II in the blank l2, securely fastened to the inner sole.

A tongue l3'is formed in the blank I! for reinforcing the forepart of the counter and receiving the flap II, and the'counter. 9 is bent upwardly and said flap brought around the heel part of the blank 12 to form the heel of the counter. That part of the flap I I immediately adjacent to the heel part of the blank I! is scalloped as shown at l5 so that as the flap is bent substantially along the dotted line X, the marginal portion l6 thereof, including the scallops l5, may be turned beneath the heel part of the blank and cemented and pegged or slugged thereto as shown in Figure 2. The tongue I3 is cemented on the inside of the flap II after the latter has been brought around to form one side of the counter 9.

When the combination insole and counter has thus been built up the "upper and the outer sole are secured to the forepart of the inner sole by Goodyear welt and sole stitching (or some other well-known manner), and the shank and outer sole are secured together by double slugging or wood pegging as desired. Of course if the shoe is to be a Welt shoe the marginalchannel I1 is provided in the usual manner.

Having described my invention, I claim:

1. A blank for making combination insoles and counters comprising a part of the general shape of a shoe insole and a flap projecting rearwardly from.one side of said insole part and shaped to form the counterjand a second flap on the insole part of the blank opposite to the first flap.

2. In a shoe, the combination of an insole and counter formed integrally therewith along the inner margin of the insole, a flap extending around the rear and outer margin of the counter, a second flap projecting from the rear part of the insole, and means for securing the first flap to the insole and means for securing the second flap to the counter.
