The invention relates to a tag and particularly to a key tag adapted to encase a miniature license plate.

Two of the most important expedients needed by any automobile operator are his automobile keys and the knowledge of his license number.

It is an object of this invention to create a simple, easily manipulative and pocket-portable article which answers these two requirements.

Therefore, the invention in its present preferred embodiment relates to a key tag encasing an exact miniature reproduction of an automobile license plate.

It is a further object of the invention to provide simple and easily operative closing and opening means for said tag which permit of an easy placement and replacement of the miniature license plate.

It is a further object of the inventionto provide suitable means to lock said tag-case in its closed position.

One of the further objects of the invention is to make said locking means automatically operative.

With these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing of which:

Referring to the drawing by numerals, I denotes a rectangular tag case with side walls 2 and bent-over edges 6.

The case is open at the top and an eyelet 4 carrying flap or holder 3 is provided at its one short side, said flap being in the present case integral with the case.

A closure slide 5 is provided to cover the open top of the case I.

The bent-over edges 6 serve as a guiding means for the insertion of the slide 5 into the case.

The rectangular slide 5 is provided at its one short end corresponding to the short end of case I with an eyelet 9 carrying flap 1 having the same shape as flap 3. If the slide cover 5 is entirely slid into the case I then the eyelets 4 and 9 form a single opening 8 through which the key holding chain l5 may be inserted.

A bushing 10 is inserted in eyelet 9 of slide 5. This bushing projects with its outer rims l4, Ma. over the planes of the slide.

The operation or the closing of the tag is efiected, as follows:

The indicia carrying card ll being in this case a miniature reproduction of an automobile license plate is placed on the bottom l2 of case I. Thereupon, the transparent resilient slide cover 5 made of Celluloid, Bakelite or similar masses is slid into the case and over the indicia carrying card ll. Due to the resiliency of the slide the projecting rim Ma of the bushing l0 slides over the bottom l2 of the case until in the closed position of the slide the eyelet holders 3 and I register with each other and a single opening 8 is formed by the eyelets 4 and 9. The projecting rim Ma of the bushing l0 snaps due to the resiliency of the slide 5 onto or into the eyelet 4 and the pressure exerted by the resilient slide holds the eyelets in a closed position.

If it is desired to open the tag the slide 5 can be easily pulled out of its locked position due to the resiliency of the slide 5 and the curved outer shape of the rims 14a.

What I claim is:

1. A tag comprising an open rectangular case, a transparent resilient slide adapted to cover said open top and to preserve within said case a space for the insertion of an indicia carrying card, a pair of eyelets provided at and projecting from said case and from said slide, said eyelets registering with each other in the closed position of the slide to form a single opening, a bushing in one eyelet cooperating with said resilient slide and having a conical projecting rim, said rim adapted to be partially pressed by the resilient slide into the other eyelet.

2. A tag comprising an open top rectangular case, a transparent resilient slide adapted to close said open top and to preserve within said case a space for the insertion of an indicia carrying card, a pair of eyelets provided at and projecting from one end of said case and from a corresponding end of said slide, said eyelets registering with each other in the closed position of the slide to form a single opening, a bushing in the slide eyelet cooperating with said resilient slide and having a projecting conical rim, said rim adapted to be snapped by the resilient slide into the case eyelet.
