In general, one object of the invention is to provide a case or container, primarily of small size, for housing a picture, photograph, or other ornamental element, and having a transparent cover through which said ornamental element is visible. said case being characterized by a construction whereby the insertion and removal of the ornamental element may be accomplished with great facility even by inexpert individuals.
'I'he invention also has for an object the provision of a bezel of improved construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide an ornament of the character described which may be readily attached to a bracelet, necklace, or other chain or the like, either as a pendant or as part of the bracelet or necklace proper, as between links of the latter.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of the character described for use as an ornament for decorating vanity boxes, Jewelry cases and other articles of personal use.
A yet further object of the invention is gen- 25 erally to provide an ornamental device of the class described which is simple in construction and capable of being applied to numerous articles for ornamenting the latter.
The above objects of the invention and other objects ancillary thereto will best be understood from the following description considered with reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the present speciiication.

Referring now more particularly to the draw- 5 ing, the ornament I0 illustrated in Figs. l and 2 comprises a body portion I2, a bezel I4, a transparent cover I6 seated in said bezel and an ornamental element I8 such as a photograph, picture, or any other ornamental element. The orl0 nament is intended primarily as a miniature and cover I6 is preferably in the form of a magnifying lens, although it will be understood that the invention may be embodied in devices of larger sizes and that in either case the use of l5 magnifying lenses is optional. The body portion I2 and bezel I4 are made of sheet metal, preferably precious or semi-precious metal or of base metals plated with precious metal, although, any suitable sheet metal may be used.
Body portion I2, as here shown comprises a and a circular side wall 22 which is tapered slightly inwardly in a direction toward the free edge thereof. Bezel I4 has a circular side wall provided with an outer annular portion 24 and an inner or inwardly offset annular portion or flange 25 defining a peripheral shoulder 28 on the outside of the bezel and an inner annular shoulder 30 on the inside of the bezel. Outer shoulder 28 engages 30 the top edge of wall 22, while inner shoulder 30 provides a seat for cover I6. 'Ihe ornamental element I8 which may be a circular paper disk carrying a photograph, picture or other ornamentation on at least one surface thereof is positioned as illustrated in Fig. 2 close to the inner surface of cover I6. Said element I8 is retained in position in any suitable manner, as merely by a frictional engagement thereof with the inner surface of flange 26, or as here shown 40 said ornamental element may be somewhat larger in diameter than flange 26 at its inner surface whereby a slight bending of a peripheral marginal edge portion of said ornamental element in engagement with the inner surface of said flange is sufllcient to hold said ornamental element in position.
The construction of the body portion I2 and bezel I4 is such that the latter is retained in engagement with side wall 22 of body portion I2 50 frictionally and by the resiliency of the interengaging parts. More specifically, bezel I4 has a snap engagement with body I2 and more particularly with side wall 22 thereof and accordingly may be readily assembled with said body by snap engagement. Also by reason of the snap engagement of the parts, said bezel may be readily removed from the body for inserting, re-
moving or replacing the ornamental element. This can be accomplished with the utmost ease even by any unskilled person in the same simple manner as opening the cover of a vanity case, as for example, by inserting the nger nail or apen knife or other simple tool between shoulder 28 and the adjacent edge of side wall 22 for prying the bezel out of engagement with said side wall.
The method of making the bezel and a further description of the character thereof ,for accomplishing the above described functions will now be described with more particular reference to Figs. 3, 4 and 5 of the drawing. Bezel I4 is made from the flat metal disk I4a illustrated in Fig. 3. The first step in the method, after providing said disk, is to draw the latter into the stepped ring I 4b illustrated in Fig. 4. In producing the stepped ring lhere shown from disk Ida by the drawing operation a rounded vperiplieral edge 32 is formed thereon, this edge assisting in the snap engagement of the bezel with the side wall 22 of body I2. Stepped ring Ilib is provided with a circular opening 34 formed by piercing said ring after it is drawn from disk Ilia.. After ring Hib is formed, it is subjected to the action of an expanding tool in engagement with the edge of opening 34 for enlarging said opening somewhat and causing flange 26 to taper inwardly in a direction toward the wider portion of the ring. Ring I4c which is/thus produced, is now ready for assemblage with cover I 6 and with body portion I2. Cover I5 is inserted in said ring and seated on shoulder 30, after which ring portion 24 is spun over the adjacent marginal surface of said cover for securing the latter in the bezel. The ornamental element I8 is inserted in the bezel beneath said cover, and
nally the bezel is assembled with body portion I2 by the snap engagement hereinbefore mentioned. In this connection it will be observed that the rounded edge portion 32 and the inward taper on ilan'ge 26 in combination with inwardly tapered side wall 22 yields a highly satisfactory snap engagement construction which is considered an important feature of this invention.
As illustrated in Fig. 1 ornament I0 is provided with an eyelet 36 soldered to side wall 22 of body I2 whereby, as illustrated in Fig. 9, said ornament may be suspended by means vof a link 38 from a bracelet or other chain 40. As here shown, said bracelet chain 40 is provided with a plurality of ornamental elements I0 which are IA*suspended therefrom as pendants. In actual practice a bracelet having four ornaments I0 has been found to be very pleasing in appearance.

they may be arranged as illustrated in Fig. 10
as parts of a chain proper. For this purpose each ornament Iii is provided with two eyelets 36 which are connected to chain links d2.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig.
6 the ornament 5I? is of a construction which here shown are designated by the reference character I4 as each of said bezels is of the same construction as that described above in connection with Figs. 1 to 5. However, instead of body portion I2 there is utilized in this double ornament an intermediate ring 52 with which each of said bezels has a removable snap engagement. Ring 52 is open at both sides for receiving said bezels. At one side, said ring has a marginal edge portion 54 of its peripheral wall tapered inwardly toward said side of the ring while at its other side opening is provided with a rounded edge I8. Ring 52 is formed in the manner illustrated in Figs. 'l and 8. Said ring is produced from a circular metal disk such as disk Ma illustrated in Fig. 3 but somewhat larger in diameter. In the rst step of the method of making said ring, the disk is drawn into the ring 52a illustrated in Fig. '7 and pierced to provide a circular opening 58. In forming ring 52a from the disk, a rounded edge 56 is formed at one side of the ring during the drawing of the ring from the disk, which rounded edge facilitates the snap engagement with bezel ring I4 for assembling and disassembling the parts of the ornament. After ring 52a is formed the side wall of the ring is contracted inwardly by a suitable tool to produce the tapered side wall portion 54. It will be understood that the double ornament 5t may have one or more eyelets 36 attached to ring 54 for attaching the ornament to a chain or as part of the chain after the manner illustrated in Figs. 9 and 10, respectively.
In the form oi' the invention illustrated in Figs. 11 and 12 the ornament 60 is associated with a vanity box or other container 32, and more specifically, is mounted within an opening in the cover 64 of the box. Ornament SII is substantially the same as ornament Ill, diiering from the latter only in the construction of the body portion 66, the other parts of the ornament being designated by the same reference numerals which indicate like parts in Figs. 1 and 2. Body portion 66 includes a bottom 68 and a side wall l0. At the juncture of said bottom and side walls an outer peripheral flange or rib 'I2 is formed by pressing the lower edge portion of wall 'I0 into engagement with the marginal edge portion of bottom 68. As illustrated in Figs. 11 and 12 ornament 60 is mounted within an opening punched through cover 64. In punching said opening by the die utilized for that purpose, an outwardly directed peripheral collar 'I4 is formed in said cover forming a recess I6 in which body 68 is received so that the bottom 58 ofbody BB is substantially ush with the inner surface of cover 64 surrounding said recess. It will be observed that the engagement of rib 'I2 with theinner surface of collar 'I4 prevents the outward movement of body portion 66 of ornament 60 through cover 64. The movement of said ornament inwardly of said cover is prevented by the engagement of a plurality of nibs I8 struck out from the top marginal edge of side wall 10 and bent into engagement with the outer edge of collar 14. It will be understood that bezel I4 is assembled with body portion 68 after the latter has been assembled with the vanity box as just described, and it will be observed that except for the formation of the rib 12 and the holding nibs 18 body portion 66 of ornament 50 is' substantially the same in construction as body portion I2 of ornament Ill and cooperates with bezel I 4 in the same manner.
While I have shown and described several embodiments of my invention, it will be understood that the invention is capable of other embodiments and that in each of the constructions herein shown or described certain changes in the construction and arrangement of'parts will occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, I do not Wish to be limited precisely to any of the speed claims considered with reference to the prior art V'Vhat we claim and desire to secure by Letters YPatent is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a carrying member having an opening therethrough, and an ornament mounted in said opening comprising a body portion fixed to said carrying member in said opening, a member removably secured to said body portion, said member having a peripheral side wall, a rim projecting inwardly of said side wall, and an internal shoulder spaced from said rim, and a cover seated in said member between said shoulder and said rim.
2. A device of the class described comprising a carrying member having an opening therethrough, and an ornament mounted in said opening comprising a body portion iixed to said carrying member in said opening, said body portion having a bottom engaged with an inner surface portion of said carrying member, and a member removably secured to said body portion and positioned at an outer surface portion of said carrying member.
3. An ornament of the class described comprising a hollow body portion having an open side, a member removably secured to said body portion at said side thereof, said body having an axially extending peripheral side wall having a peripheral edge at said open side, said member having an axially extending peripheral side wall provided with an inwardly oifset peripheral portion engageable with said first mentioned side wall internally thereof and inwardly of said peripheral edge for removable securement of said member to said body, said oil'set portion providing an internal peripheral shoulder in said mem- 40 ber and an external shoulder seated on said peripheral edge, said side wall of said member having an inwardly directed rim spaced from said shoulder, and a transparent cover seated in said member between said internal shoulder and said inwardly directed rim, said body portion having an inwardly tapering peripheral portion terminating in said peripheral edge at said open side and said inwardly offset peripheral portion of said shouldered member tapering outwardly to provide a snap engagement with said inwardly tapering portion of said body portion, said member being open at the side thereof opposite said cover whereby to permit the insertion of an ornamental element therein without removing said cover.
4. An ornament of the class described comprising a hollow sheet metal body portion having an open side, a member removably secured to said body portion at said side thereof, said body having an axially extending peripheral side wall tapering inwardly toward said open side and terminating in a peripheral edge at said open side, said member having a peripheral side wall provided with an inwardly offset portion engageable with said first mentioned side wall internally thereof and inwardly of said peripheral edge for removable securement of said member to said body, said inwardly oifset portiton of said member tapering outwardly to provide a snap engagement with said inwardly tapering side wall, said offset portion providing an internal shoulder in said member and an external shoulder seated on said peripheral edge, a transparent cover seated on said internal shoulder, and said peripheral side wall having an upper portion spun over the marginal edge portion of said cover to retain the
