Description

March 11, 1941. BERNHARDT 2,234,362
CIGARETTE CASE HAVING MI EXTRACTIBLE PETROL LIGHTER Filed Nov. 27, 1937 Aiformy Patented Mar. 11, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CIGARETTE CASE HAVING AN EXTRACTIBLE PETROL LIGHTER many Application November 27, 1937, Serial No. 176,801 In Austria November 28, 1936 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a cigarette case having an extractible petrol lighter.
According to this invention, the lighter. casing and the cigarette case are provided with a common lid and. the lighter has, at least on one side edge, restricted portions whereby it may be introduced into a guide of the cigarette case. The wick and the filling device of the lighter are arranged on the part of the lighter which is most remote from the portion containing the cigarettes. On one of its sides, the lighter has projections or raised portions which enga e in corresponding recesses of the lid of the case, so that it is possible to remove the lighter only when the lid is open.
According to a further development of the invention, the lighter is formed with a recess for receiving a watch and the lid of the cigarette case has a corresponding opening so that the dial of the watch is visible when the lid is closed. The watch may be retained in position by a spring arranged in the lighter.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, reference is made to the 5 accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a combination case for cigarettes constructed in accordance with the present invention, and
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the case in open position showing the cavity in the lighter for a watch.
I is the lighter casing, 2 the lid of the cigarette case, 3 the cigarette case proper, 4 a spring flap for holding the cigarettes in position in the case, 5 a partition and 6 a rim for receiving a projection 'l on the lighter casing, 9 are projections on the casing, I0 is the head of the lighter, II is the extinguishing cap and Ila the wick, which is introduced into the opening l4 provided for filling purposes. When the lid is closed, as shown in Fig. 1, the lighter casing is seated with its projections 9, which are provided on a lateral side of said casing, in corresponding recesses of the lid 2 of the case 3,
and cannot be removed. If the lid is in the open position, the lighter, which abuts at one side against the partition 5 and is seated at the other side with the restricted portion I in the guide 6, may be removed. However, the lighter can also be operated even when the lid is closed. It is not possible for the smell of petrol to penetrate into the cigarettes contained in the case, since the wick and the filling opening of the lighter 5 are removed as far as possible from the cigarette container. The construction of the cigarette case according to the invention is made extremely simple by the provision of the common lid 2 and, since the length of the lighter corresponds 10 to the width of the cigarette case, the former is comparatively long and thus has a large fuel capacity.
It will be seen that without substantially reducing the capacity of the lighter, it is possible 15 to incorporate a watch in the construction. III) is a recess in the lid, I! a recess in the lighter, I8 a spring and H the watch.
The recess I2 is closed by a ring, provided with a projecting elastic end l8 registering with the square space l5, said end having a recess for the arbor of the winding key. There is provided a recess l5 large enough to turn the winding key and to remove it in such manner that the hands can be displaced. The watch is suitably 5 seated upon a ring of felt. It is reached by the spring I8 that even in the case that the cigarette lighter is worn with the watch without cigarette case, the watch is fixed in its position. The whole space of the cigarette lighter, which is 30 not left free for the watch'by the recess, is suitable for the reception of liquid fuel so that the cigarette lighter in spite of the introduction of a watch loses merely a little of its ability to be filled with liquid. 30
I claim:
A combination case for cigarettes, a lighter and a watch comprising a bodyportion, a cover hinged thereto, guides on the body portion, a lighter frictionally held between said guides, said 40 lighter having a watch recess in the side thereof facing the hinged cover, a. watch fixed in said recess and said cover having an opening therein adapted to register with said recess when the cover is in closed position on the body portion 45 for exposing the dial of the watch.
