FFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in dispensing devices and is more particularly directed to the provision of an improved device for the dispensing of coins, tokens, or the like.
It is one of the principal objects of the invention to provide a handy and economical device or receptacle in which coins or tokens may be conveniently contained and from which they may be dispensed with facility. As a special feature of the invention, the device is compact so as to occupy but little space in a hand bag or pocket, for example, and is so adapted that ones coins or tokens may at all times be kept readily accessible for use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a dispensing container so constructed that a desired number of coins, tokens, or the like may be easily ejected therefrom, preferably one at a time. As will appear, the device is particularly useful in the case of people doing business with transportation companies which employ tokens as payment for rides and sell a plurality of such tokens at a somewhat reduced rate so as to make it desirable for the traveler to purchase a number of tokens at one time rather than a single one. The device of this invention is calculated to not only provide the commuter with a convenient place to keep such tokens but also a means whereby but one token may be dispensed at a time in a very easy manner.
With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:

Fig. 4 is a partial sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing more in detail, wherein similar reference figures refer to like parts, and referring more particularly to the preferred form of my invention which has been selected for illustrative purposes, I have shown a receptacle generally indicated by the numeral 2. This preferably includes a pair of cooperating and similar half-parts 4 and 6, which may be formed of metal, Bakelite or other material, and so shaped and associated as to provide a hollow container. The half-parts may be held together by any suitable means such as screws or pins 8 associated with the side walls of said half-parts as shown in Fig. 3.
The receptacle is formed to have a coin-receiving chamber li'l having an open lower end. The latter may be closed by a cap member l2 in screw-threaded engagement therewith, as shown.
Disposed within said chamber and above the cap member i2 is a spring means, such as a coil spring H, and a plunger-like support member l4 disposed thereabove. The spring is arranged to urge the support or plate i i upwardly.
In the upper part of the container is a lateral slot l6 leading outwardly from the chamber [0. It is through this that the coins may be dispensed one at a time as will he described, the coins being indicated by c.
That is to say, the spring ll urges member I4 upwardly against the lower side of the stack of coins 0 so that the uppermost coin 0 will always be in a horizontal plane with the slot 16.
An ejector member, shown at It, is provided and this is arranged to move in horizontal planes towards and away from the slot l6. As it moves towards the slot, it will engage said uppermost coin c and move it out of the container so that it may be received in the hand and used as wished.
Said ejector member preferably consists of a disc-like body part for engaging the coin and an upper neck portion which slides so as to be guided in a slot 22 in the upper wall of the container. A manual engageable member 24 is also preferably formed on the upper side of the ejector to facilitate movements of the same as described and thus may be knurled, as shown, or not, its particular form not being a part of this invention.
There is preferably spring means to normally urgethe ejector member away from the slot. That is to say, the construction is such that the uppermost coin c of the stack is normally up against the inside of the upper wall of the receptacle and adjacent the slot and the ejector is in position to be moved against it to move it out of the slot.
Such spring means may obviously vary in form but as shown consists of a U-shaped spring clip 26 having one end portion engaged in a recess or aperture 26 in the disc 18, and its other end portion in bearing engagement with a partition wall of the receptacle which, as shown, provides the coin-chamber. The intermediate portion of the clip 26 may extend around a rod or pin 8 which extends between the side walls of the receptacle.
As will be clear, movement of the ejector towards the discharge slot is thus necessarily against movement of spring 26. When manual pressure on the ejector is released after discharge of the coin, the ejector returns to the normal position shown in Fig. 2, another coin moves upwardly opposite the slot, and the ejector is in position tomove another coin.
Manifestly the specific details of construction may be considerably varied from those herein shown and described without involving any departure from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages inherent therein. While I have described my invention in this specification in great detail and particularly with respect to the present preferred form thereof, it is not desired to be limited thereto since many changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and 9 not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of. equivalency of the appended claims are therefore intended to be e111- braced therein.
;What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A coin dispensing device comprising in combination, a receptacle having side, end, upper and lower walls and a partition wall extending between the side walls forming a vertical coin compartment and a separate compartment adjacent thereto, the lower wall provided with an opening leading into the coin compartment, means to close said opening and urge a stack of coins upwardly in said coin compartment whereby the upperlncst coin bears against said upper wall, the upper end of the end wall of the coin compartment provided with a coin discharge slot and the upper end of the partition wall provided with an aligned ejector slot, the upper wall provided with a slot extending between said compartment, an ejector slidable against said upper wall from, the separate compartment through the ejector slot into the coin compartment to eject an uppermost coin from a stack thereof through the discharge slot and return to non-ejecting position having a manually engageable part extending through the slot in said upper wall, and
spring means wholly within the separate compartment acting on and urging the ejector to non-ejecting position.
2. A coin dispensing device comprising in combination, a receptacle having side, end, upper and lower walls and a partition wall extending between the side walls forming a vertical coin compartment and a separate compartment adjacent thereto, the lower wall provided with an opening leading into the coin compartment, means to close said opening and urge a stack of coins upwardly in said coin compartment whereby the uppermost coin bears against said upper wall, the upper end of the end wall of the coin compartment provided with a coin discharge slot and the upper end of the partition wall provided with an aligned ejector slot, the upper wall provided with a slot extending between said compartments, an ejector slidable against said upper wall from the separate compartment through the ejector slot into the coin compartment to eject an uppermost coin from a stack thereof through the discharge slot and return to non-ejecting position having a manually engageable part extending through the slot in said upper Wall, and spring means wholly within the separate compartment acting on and urging the ejector to non-ejecting position, said spring means including a V-shaped spring having one end in abutment with the said partition wall and its other end engaging said ejector.
3. A coin dispensing device comprising in combination, a compartment forming half-parts having side, end, upper and lower walls and partition walls extending inwardly from said side walls, means engaging said side walls holding the end, upper, lower and partition walls of the halfparts in aligned abutment whereby the halfparts provide a coin compartment and a separate compartment adjacent thereto having side, end, upper and lower walls, the lower wall provided with an opening leading into the coin compartment, means to close said opening and urge a stack of coins upwardly in. said coin compartment whereby the uppermost coin bears against said upper wall, the upper end of the end wall of the coin compartment provided with a coin discharge slot and the upper end of the partition wall provided with an aligned ejector slot, the upper wall provided with a slot extending between said compartments, an ejector slidable against said upper wall from the separate compartment through the ejector slot into the coin compartment to eject an uppermost coin from a stack thereof through the discharge slot and return to non-ejecting position having a manually engageable part extending through the slot in said upper wall, and spring means wholly within the separate compartment acting on and urging the ejector to non ejecting position.
