1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in laundry apparatus and more particularly to a combination washer, wringer, rinser and sink assembly.
The principal object of the present inven tion is to provide a combination assembly of the character stated which will permit all of the units thereof to be closely allied for convenient use.
Another important object of the invention -is to provide an assembly of the character stated built into a cabinet form for the purpose of oifering a neat and attractive appearance.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a perspective View of the assembly.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the assembly.
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary detailed sectional view showing one of the valve controls.
Referring to the drawings wherein lik numerals designate like parts, it can be seen tha broadly the assembly consists of the washer 5, the wringer 6, rinser 'l, and sink 8. The washer, rinser and sink are contained in a cabinet generally referred to by numeral G'and which consists of the end walls l and II, the elevated rear wall l2, a top wall l3 and front wall l4. Between the sink 8 and end wall II, the front wall l4 of the cabinet isbuilt with drawers l5, cupboards having doors IS in the front wall l4 provide spaces under the unit for storage purposes. There may b also a door I! in the end wall Hi, to the end that the motor l8 for driving the washer can be easily reached.
The top l3 of the cabinet has openings therein whereby the washer 5 and rinser I can be readily reached, and as can be seen in Figures 1, 2 and 3, each of these openings has a closure, these closures being denoted by numerals l9 and 20. As-can be seen in Figure 3, each of these closures has pin members 2| at its rear end for disposition into arcuate-shaped tracks 22 extending down from the cabinet top behind the washer 5 and rinser l, to the end that the lids or closures l3 and 20 can be swung downwardly into the cabinet and out of the way.
The motor I8 is attached by brackets 23 to the underside of the washer 5 and has the drive 24 therefrom to a gear box 25 from which a shaft extends and connects to the mobile element in the washer 5.
There is also a conduit 26 from the gear box 25 to the wringer 6, the wringer proper being swivelly mounted on a bracket arm 21, to the end that the same can be swung through an opening 28 in the rear wall l2 to a useful position between the washer- 5 and rinser 1, above the top wall l3, after, the closure 29 has been slid to the right in Figure 2 on the guide ribs 30.
As can be seen in Figure 2, hot and cold water supply pipes 3| and 32 have connections 33 and 34, respectively, to the hot and cold water faucet valves 35 and 36, respectively.
These hot and cold water supply pipes 3| and 32 connect to the pipes 31 and 38 which are connected by a Y 39 to a pipe 43 which extends into the top of the rinser 'l. The other ends of th pipes 31 and 38 are connected by a Y 4| to a pipe 42 which extends into the top of the washer 5. Adjacent the Y 39 are the hot and cold water control valves 43 and 44, while adjacent the Y H are the hot and cold water control valves 45 and 46.
Numeral 4! denotes a drain pipe from the sink 8 and an inclined branch pipe 48 extends from this drain pipe 41 and under the rinser l and washer 5. Branch pipes 49 and 50 connect this pipe 48 with the bottoms of the rinser I and washer 5, while overflow pipes 50 and 5| extend from the upper portions of the rinser and washer to connect with the said drain pipe branch 48.
A socket 52 is provided in the end wall II to which can be plugged an electric cord 53, this socket being connected to the electric motor l8. A switch 53 is provided at the upper left hand comer of the front wall of the cabinet for controlling the motor.
Knobs operative in depressions in the front wall of the cabinet 9 are denoted by numerals 54, 55, 56, 51, 58 and 59, and they are for controlling the hot water control valve 43, cold water control valve 44, drain valve 60, hot water control valve 45, cold water control valve 46, and drain valve 6|, respectively.
These knobs 59 operate shafts 62 which are connected by universal joints 63 to shafts 64, which in turn are connected by universal joint 65 to valve attaching means 66, as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A laundry apparatus comprising a pair of closely spaced tubs, a shell structure for encompassing said tube and provided with a hollow back wall rising above the tops of the tubs and shell, said back wall having an opening therein substantially over one of the tube, a wringer 19
