This invention relates to containers, particularly paper 'cans or cartons. The invention has for its principal objects to provide a'. hermetically sealed lining for such cartons that is impervious v to fluids and oil and grease containing products and can be readily embodied in said carton during the assembly thereof and Asealed after packing. Other objects are to provide for closing the carton body after sealing the lining, to enable the carton to be quickly and easily opened to permit access to be had to the sealed lining and to provide for simplicity and cheapness of construction.- The invention consists in the sealed carton vand inthe construction, combinations and arrangements o! parts hereinafter described and claimed.

'I'he body of our carton comprises an outer tube I, an inner tube 2 snugly fitting said outer tube and terminating short of both endg thereof and closures 3 and 4 for the respective ends of said carton. The outer tube l preferably comprises one or more convolutely wound, adhesively united, strips of paper or like materials; and the inner tube 2 preferably comprises one or more spiraily wound, adhesively united, strips of paper or like material. The end closures l and 4 are made of paper or the like, the end closure 3 being in the form of a plain disk, andl the end closure l comprising a disk with a. peripheral or rim flange 5.
lThe carton' is provided with a hermetically sealed lining of thin transparent impervious material that becomes co-adhesive or self sealing upon the application of heat thereto. A material having such characteristics has become known under the trade-name of Pliofllm, which is made from a rubber base and is waterproof and rials which heretofore couldnot'be packed in paper containers,
closures] and l for the respective ends thereof. 'I'he tube l is formed of a helically wound strip of Pliofllm or other impervious heat scalable material having its adlacentedges overlapped and hermetically sealed by the application of heat thereto. The tubular Pliofilm lining member 3 extends from end to end of the paper inner tube 2 and is preferably formed in andadhesively se cured to the inner face of said paperinner tube during the winding thereof. The end closures 'l and l of the lining are also made `of an imperviousI heat scalable material, such as Plioillm.
The Pliotllm end closure 1 covers the inner face of the paper end closure l and the outer face of the peripheral -flange l thereof and is adhesively lor otherwise secured to said paper end closure for unit insertion therewith. The flanged, Plioiilm lined end closure l snugly nts within the Plioiilm lined paper vinner tube 2, I preferably with its peripheral flange l facing outwardly and terminating flush with one end of said tube; and said end closure is hermetically sealed in place by the application of heat or an adhesive to the contacting peripheral surfaces of Plionlm end closure l and the Plionlm lining tube l. The paper outer tube l of the carton is then' bent inwardly across the flush ends of the paper inner tube 2, the tubular Pliofilm lining t' and the peripherally flanged portions of the paper, end closure I and the Plioillm end closure l,
and is thence bent inwardly alongside of the inner face of the peripheral flange 5 of saidpaper end closure.
The plain, unflanged paper end closure disk I 8 snugly fits within the paper outer tube I and is held in abutting relation to the adjacent end of the Pliofllm lined paper inner tube 2 by folding the end portion of said outer tube inwardly upon itself, as at l, to bring said portion into endwise abutting relation to the outer face of said end` As shown in the drawings, the l 'hermetically sealed lining comprises a tube I and place. f
' otherwise secured to said sections for holding them together in endwise abutting relation and for sealing the Joint therebetween and a rlp or opening thread II extending around said outer tube beneath saidl wrapper opposite said` Joint with one end left exposed.
The hereinbefore described carton is simple and-inexpensive and has a moisture and greaseprooi hermetically sealed lining. After the carton is packed, lthe sealing of the impervious `lining is completed merely byv sealing the Plioillm end closure'or diaphragm l in the open end there oi, aftergwhich the open end of the body ofthe carton isclosed by inserting the paper end c1osure disk). therein and bending the adjacent end of the paper outer tube I' over said disk.
