,cl lifllaims. (01 1289215) The present invention relates to Syringes and particularly to the type in which adjustment can be made to predetermine, the dosagefas "for in stance is desirable in ahypodermic syringe.
An object of this invention isf' to provide a simple article of noveland improved construction, which is adapted to be easily attached to asyringe having agraduated cylinder, and to serve to determine thewquantityrof material to be'ejected, andbe adjustable to change thequantity as may be required, or adaptable for identical'volume delivery.
,Another object hereoffis to provide a novel r I andimproved-article of the character mentioned, 1
which is easyfto use, cheap-to manufacture and wherebythe bo'dy of ls aidrclamp'isrurged towards spiingil, of any suitable nature, which finthe embodiment illustrated is (if the blade -typefis interposed between the arm ,i fi a'nd clamp 19,

efiicientin carrying out theipurposes for which i it' is designed, and furtheriit shall not interfere with the operation, assembly, dismantling or cleaningof the syringe proper.
Other objects an'dadvantages willbecome apparent as this disclosure proceeds; 1
"In the accompanying drawing formingpart' Jence indicate corresponding parts, man the views.
bodiment of the teachings ofthis J invention.
The position of elem entd 5 onpiston i2, is r such, t hat the distance from .the underside of flange l5 to the tines ll", {equals the distance between the bottom of {said "piston to the pawl or pointer l8, becausesaid element l5, is soset thatiuponrcompletion of the full permitted move- Fig. 2 shows the same as mountedon ya syringe, r M
Fig.3 is an enlarged fragmentary section of Fig-"2. a n n Fig.4 shows another embodimentof this invention. A i t 'In the'drawingthe numeral 10 designates geni erally a syringe or similar device, comprised essentially of a cylinder or barrel H, in which is an outwardly extending handled piston I2, for
movement of fluid l3, through the nozzle I 4.
will'iberejected a'tiany time isthat whichds bep 25 Fig/1 is a perspective view showing one emtween the bottomof the-piston t2, and the graduationratr' which the pointer or pawl-end lfi ris. In the set-up shown in Fig. 2, --such-amount or volume which will ber eiected-iupon:rnovement of the .pist'onll "into "the barrellqi i, would be all liquidrtiin the barreliabove the :--gradu.ation 0.
Now, \if itisdesired to discharge such volume r r of :-liquid as is between I the graduations v0 and: b,
The cylinder is preferably, graduated by lines which may be grooved in its exterior surface, as a, b and c, constituting a suitable scale indicating volumetric measure. The piston l2, may
carry thereon an adjustably positioned stop element, as for instance the sleeve designated by the numeral l5. n
An arm I6, has its ends I! and i8 bent towards one side thereof. The end I1, may be bifurcated and extends straddling the piston I2 with its tines I1 close enough to each other to intercept the extending flange 15' of the element l5, when the piston I2 is slid into the barrel I I. The arm [6, in the region of its end l8,
has pivotally secured thereto a spring clamp IS,
the body of which extends from said pivotal connection 20, towards the aforesaid tines I T. A
the "operator first L-presses :arm I 6 towards the piston H2, "to release element '18 from :engagement with therbarrelillil; which however will stress spring 2|. ward along barrel |l,'until e1ement l8 is at b, whereupon arm I6 is let go, so that l8 becomes engaged at b and thus locks the dosage gauge shown in Fig. l, infixed position onthe syringe Ill. The tines [1' have thus been lowered exactly the distance betweenthe graduations c and b. It is evident that the limit of movement permitted the piston l2 further into the barrel ll, determined bythe interception by the tines ll of the flange I5, at the setting described, would be exactly that between the said graduations c and b,
Injection into a large number of animals, of
small identical volumes of material, can be accomplished with precision with the above device. Of course, the dosage gauge described can be easily detached from one syringe and applied to any other as may be desired. Settings for unequal doses, are likewise easily made. Such uses Clamp I9, is now slid downand manipulations are here given as mere matter of example.
In the modified form illustrated in Fig. 4, the element I1 is on an arm I6 which is carried by the member I9, instead of on element It! as an extension thereof.
In Fig. 4, said element I8 is manipulated by pressing at I6". In allother respects, the manner of use and operation of said modified structure is identical with the mode of use and operation of the embodiment shown in Fig. 2.
This invention is capable of various forms and numerous applications and uses without departing from the essential features herein disclosed. It is therefore intended and desired that the structures herein set forth be deemed illustrative and not restrictive and that the patent shall cover all patentable novelty herein set forth; ref erence being had to the following claims rather than to the specific embodiments herein to indicate the scope of this invention.
