6 Claims.

My invention relates to a footwear sole and the objects of my invention are:

First, to provide a footwear sole that can be worn on a floor or other surface that is wet without the feet of the wearer becoming wet;

Second, to provide a sole for footwear of this class which will not slip or slide on wet or slippery iioors;

Third, to provide a sole of this class which may be readily applied and secured to the conventional footwear;

Fourth, to provide a sole of this class that provides a cushion so that the feet do not tire when standing on hard surfaced floors, such as cement;

Fifth, to provide a footwear sole of this class which may be used for replacing or may be read.. ily replaced with other similar soles; and

Sixth, to provide a footwear sole of this class which is very simple and economical to make, easy to apply on footwear of conventional type now in use or on newly manufactured footwear.

With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:

Figure 1 is a top or plan view of my footweai` sole; Fig. 2 is a bottom view thereof and Fig- 3 is a sectional view taken from the line 3-.3 of Fig. 1.

Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing.

My footwear sole includes a sole member composed of rubber, rubber composition, or similar resilient waterproof substance shaped in outline to substantially fit the sole portion of the footwear, as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawing. It is provided on its normally lower side, when positioned on the footwear, with a relatively flat oval central portion 2 4surrounded by a circuitous groove 3, then with a circuitous flat portion 4 surrounding the groove 3 and on substantially the same level as the portion 2. Surrounding this portion 4 is a raised flat portion 5, so that the flat portion 5 is substantially the same depth from the flat portions 2 and 4 as the groove 3, all as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The portions 2 and 4 form the tread portion of the sole member I.

Positioned on the opposite side of the member I directly opposite the portion 2 is a substantially oval shaped recess 6, the outer margin of which is inwardly slightly from the inner margin of the groove 3. Then outwardly of said recess 6 is a nat continuous circuitous portion 'I which is positioned opposite the groove 3 and positioned outwardly therefrom and substantially centrally of the flat portion 4 on the opposite side of the sole member I is a circuitous groove 8. Then outwardly therefrom is a flat portion 9 to the margin of the sole member I at its upper side.

1t will be here noted that this provides a substantially central recess in the upper side of the sole member I with a conforming and enlarged flat portion on the lower surface and a spaced circuitous groove in the ulpper surface with a conforming enlarged flat portion on the lower surface which provides the tread portion of the sole.

This member I is secured to the sole of the conventional footwear sole, by sewing and if desired may be sewed between the outer edge of the member I and the member 4 and also may be sewed in the groove 3 to the flat portion 1 which permits for ready resiliency of the sole member I forming a substantial cushion for the sole of the footwear and of non-skid construction and of suficient heighth to raise the main sole I of the lower surface some distance.

Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A footwear sole consisting of a flat resilient sole member provided with a central substantially oval shaped recess in its upper side and with a conforming enlarged flat surfaced portion at its lower side provided with a surrounding groove.

2. A footwear sole consisting of a fiat resilient sole member provided with a central substantially oval shaped recess in its upper side and with a conforming enlarged dat surfaced portion at its lower side provided with a surrounding groove, and also provided with a circuitous groove spaced from said recess in its upper side and an enlarged fiat surface on the opposite side therefrom.

3. A footwear sole consisting of a. flat resilient sole member provided with a central substantially oval shaped recess in its upper side and a spaced circuitous groove interposed between said recess and the margin of said sole.

4. A footwear sole consisting of a flat resilient sole member provided with a central substantially oval shaped recess in its upper side, a spaced circuitous groove interposed between said recess and the margin of said sole and provided with a central fiat surface in opposed relation with said recess. 5. A footwear sole consisting of a at resilient sole member provided with a central substantially oval shaped recess in its upper side, a spaced circuitous groove interposed between said recess and the margin of said sole provided with a central fiat surface in opposed relation with said recess and provided with a circuitous fiat shaped portion in spaced relation from the central flat shaped portion of said sole member.

6. A footwear sole consisting of a at resilient sole member provided with a central recess in its upper side, a circuitous recess in surrounding spaced relation therefrom in its upper side and conforming offset fiat surface portions on the lower side of said sole member spaced by a circuitous groove.
